@zfleming44 You may be slighly confused, "Dwight Yoakam - A Thousand Miles From Nowhere" is a great song no doubt, I like Dwight, but, it's a totally different song including the lyrics.
@Achel41 I guess it's all in the ears of the beholder. Brook does a good job, but his backup is very flat. The harmonies in this version are just super. Anyway, we're not here to compare, just enjoy.
@DOOWOPDAVE55 Dave did you ever think 1 day almost every song imaginable would be a click away. I can remember when it took me years to find a record just to listen to the song. Another great factor is we now can chat with the artist who recorded them, like Harry! Echoes were always one of my fav. groups! Finding one of their's and couldn't get home fast ehough to play it, that was exciting. A click away is not so exciting but posting as we do gives all these groups & tunes recognition, I luv it
I know I wrote something ,but I can't find it,so I don't know what to say. How come it's not on this page!!! Can you tell me what I posted? Thanks Harry
But now the message has disappeared. I really hate this new YT page, it's horrible! I barely respond to any comments anymore because they're hard to find now. I just happened to scan down & seen your name.
It sounds like Roy O's records because many of the same musicians were playing on the record, including Ray Stevens Jerry Reed and Boots Randolph.
Yes ,we sang it during our performances for a few years. We had to abandon "The Echoes" name in 1965,because of a legal dispute with "The Fabulous Echoes" an asian group that was very popular at the time and changed our musical style a bit so we stopped performing our recorded songs ,except for B-B-A-B-Y of course!
Thanks for sharing the story---I assume that's the same Ray Stevens of singing fame. I still think this is a very good tune and nicely produced. And thanks for Baby Blue, this, and others.
No the record didn't chart. Recorded in Nashville in 1962. It was a big disappoint ment to me (Harry Boyle) and Tom Morrissey . Yes it is the same "Baby Blue" Echoes with Joe Jager replacing Tommy Duffy on lead ! It's so nice to read all the comments. Thanks to everyone who purchased the songs nand enjoy them still!
Harry, how nice to hear from you. Can you tell us anything more about what happened (and didn't happen) way back then in terms of this great song. Did you guys perform it while touring? It's a great song.
It is a PROMO, I don't remember where I bought it, however, I remember selling it on ebay, I believe it sold for $40.00 about 2 years ago. Flip side was Keep An Eye On Her. This is/was my FAV side, should have been a #1 hit, thank you all you DJs for playing it, yea right!!!
Wow!!! $40 huh. I guess I should think about selling my copies .I have 3 left over from the old days as well as 2 or 3 copies of every single we(The Echoes ) ever made. How do you post these things? I'd like to get "Bluebirds Over The Mountain on here!!
Harry, SUPER GREAT to hear from you!!!! Needless to say that the Echoes were/are always TOP-OFF-THE-CROP group for me,. I collected anything & everything by you guys, SUPER GROUP! Send me a private message & I'll explain how to post, plus I want to chat a bit! Again, thank you for contacting!!!!!
dowopper51 my bad. You are 100% correct. Some times this old Viet Nam veteran gets things a bit wrong. Thanks for the correction.

Dwight Yokum did a very sucessful version much later. I'm from WV but have traveled the great plains and south west so his version is nearly as good.

Just noticed that the ending sounds a bit like the ending of the Big O's Running Scared

Good question, I don't know, I never heard it on the radio in RI. Somebody out there will know, they'll chime in, I hope.
