  • I don't have any issue with Jupiters because their contras, as ridiculously heavy as they are, sound bombastic.

  • people can we stop arguin about whats better and just enjoy the greatness of Crown?

  • You can download this on the youtube downloader. google it. then using the youtube downloader you download the video then convert it to audio. after that cut the audio on itunes. then open up samsungs pc studio and you drag and dropp music. only will work if you have pc studio that comes with your samsung phone

  • 1:37 Wall of fucking sound......

  • It's true, I have never heard a corps play so clean and rich in the upper levels other than crown

  • How long have you listened to Drum Corps?

  • Was that a reply to me? If it was since I was born! My dad marched snare at BD in the late 78-80. And if it wasn't directed at me, too bad!

  • No it was directed to Ian but I read your comment and it would apply to yours too. Too bad you never got to hear Star Of Indiana.

  • No corps has that kinda sound. No one. Well Crown does of course! ;P

  • Coats? Devs? The Phantom? Knights? Scouts? Cavs? Those folks that march out of step compared with everybody else? SantaClara? Glassmen? Colts? Saders? Xmen?

While there are some differences in how these folks sound, they're all capable of sounding dang good.

  • Never said that ever corps has a unique sound....EVERY corps, meaning Dev year to year have a different sound. The quality that Crown plays with at louder volumes is better than any other corps. Hands down.

  • I dunno about that. I maintain that they all produce that brilliant wall of sound. I've been observing the activity for 15ish years. This particular clip sounds remarkably Phantom-esque. Crown has definitely worked its way up thru the years.

    Ugh... I <3 brass lines.

  • eh... you cant really deny that SCV, Phantom, Devs, and Cadets dont distort their sound quality when they get to the upper dynamic levels. Im not complaining, i love me some mean, nasty brass lines, but crown plays the prettiest at the louder levels

  • Mmmmmmmmmmmmaybe. But it still all rules. :D

Cadets are the masters of distortion. Or maybe Hoppy himself. Activity-wrecker. :P

Haha- had to get one minor bash in there somehow.

  • They're DSI.... they say 'VIPER' on the inside.

  • Something like MTX shoes I thought

  • mtx school uses those also

  • I know some people that have marched crown and they said that crown is not a star of indiana wanna be. Although their climb to the top in the past 5 or 6 years is similar to what star did in the late 80's early 90's.

  • They have done it with the Star of Indiana's staff. I heard James Mason, Donnir VanDoren, Jim Prime and lots of star staff are on board with another crops this year.

  • Scouts.

  • I wanna be in this Corps SOOO bad, I'm the trumpet section leader at my school, but we only have 4 trumpets and one is the band captain... X( so not fair, Love THIS CORPS!

  • What is the Progession starting at 1:38? Its a Amen Chorus right?

  • Technically it's called a "Plagal Cadence"... from the IV to the I.

  • Correction... progression goes like so

    V-IV-I.

  • yeah, it sounds like it. really wish i could have been there in person for that wall of sound

  • Its the last couple chords of their show that year.

  • I just love tht bass line

  • what are those space chords for

  • So when they resolve to a real chord, they tune instantly.

  • u always know that it was a good cord when u hear the echo after u quit playing when ur outside

  • 1:38

  • I love the clicks in the beginning of this vid lol! thats always a good sign!

  • 1:37

  • so true.

  • @JeremysBugles that to the end os my ringtone now haha

  • @JeremysBugles Crown does share a lot of qualities Star showed in the early 90's. Star was such an amazing corps. that it's a shame other corps. aren't trying to do the same. Crown is making their name known with great brass sound and choreography that is interesting to watch. Crown always puts the crowd first. Everything else falls into place.

  • @trumpetdudeman07 Everyone seems to have forgotten about Phantom... To me, Crown looks at Phantom as a reference and just cherry picks Star. Phantom is the textbook definition for GREAT brass arrangement and sound- but most notably is a performance corps rather than a competition corps... Notice in 09, about 95% of their show had NO synthetic noise whatsoever wheras Crown had synthetic thunder noises, weird stuff going on prior to the Puck and low tones masking the low brass in the closer. PR>CC

  • @JeremysBugles

Sorry to say, but Crown does not "look to Phantom as a reference." And the synthetic thunder noises were not covering up the brass... That wierd stuff before Puck and the thunder were just to add to the overall general effect. How were they supposed to make those noises without a synth?

  • @JeremysBugles Phantom is an icon no doubt, but you can't deny that Crown '09 had a unique sound and GE. As far as the didgeridoo effect before the puck that all was in context of their show. The Puck was meant to feel a bit cult-like (hence the zombie walk). The thunder effect in their pre opener was in good taste and didn't take from the show. I love both Crown and Phantom. I agree that Phantom is a great corps with strong tradition. Guess I'm biased because I'm marching CC this year :)

  • @trumpetdudeman07 as am I for I am marching PR this year :D

  • @JeremysBugles Good on ya! See you at finals

  • @JeremysBugles : Great point. I saw the 2008 championships and Crown was not even close to Phantom and yes.....tries to cherry pick Star.....tries

  • @JeremysBugles

You also realize that '09 phantom was a terrible show, right?

Crown '09 isn't even on the same level. Besides, using Jupiters pretty much nullifies any good characteristics of Phantom's sound (which I quite liked in '08).

  • @Burgerbob22

What the hell is wrong with Jupiters?

  • @TonyDanza007 A lot? Have you listened to '08 compared to maybe, '10 phantom? The '10 hornline is pretty good, maybe not on the level of '08, but at least like '07... they sound totally different. The mellos are impossible to tune, the euphoniums don't project... Academy sounds terrible on them, to boot.

  • @Burgerbob22 Whatever you say dude :)

  • @TonyDanza007 hey man, I've marched Yamahas the last three years. They're the best all around horns. I have a pretty good feel for what stacks up.

  • @Burgerbob22 And I've marched two summers on Jupiter's and have no complaints.

  • who's the hot blonde chick?

    ps nice hornline ;)

  • kelly bishop, she was the mellophone tech.

  • ECHO ECHO echo echo

  • haha, I saw them do this warm up in Salem ,VA and the chords at the end just blow you away,... its awesome.

  • holy. crap. O.O

  • Crown already reached THAT magnitude, and Harloff is back. This is the corps that will challenge BD, Cavies, Phantom, and Cadets this year and for the forseeable future. I'm putting it in writing. CAROLINA CROWN WILL WIN A MEDAL THIS YEAR.

  • they already challenged cadets and has cavies on the toes.....but drum Corps change every year so the top 5 or 6 corps will fluxuate amuse them selves

  • doubt it. even if crown deserves to win this year, politics wont let them

  • And just think...

    This was barely into July.

  • Crown will never reach that magnitude? I dont get that at all. Its like a compliment with a no look back hand. Please tell me you dont think Crown isnt as tallented. They just play a certain style that doesnt require constant squealers and un-necessary runs.

  • :39-:40

    my GOD

  • I'm not associated with Crown, but if you don't know already, lip slurs (I call them "air slurs") are fundamental to brass playing. Doing them is like football players lifting weights.

  • Only horn line that can sound that dark and full at that volume. They are in a new box category in my opinion!

  • ALERT!! when I mentioned marching band being huge in the south that was NOT a reference to Corps!!! I was referencing where the talent is COMING FROM. I would NEVER commit such blasphemy!

  • I have to disagree dolphus when you have nearly 1,000 musicians trying out for approx. 80 slots the numbers don't lie...and marching band is huge in the south and also Indiana where some of their talent comes from..you're right about the technique this corps applies, but the talent is also coming in. Don't expect Crown to fall out of the top 5 anytime soon. They have established an identity consistantly for the past 5 years....the best is yet to come.....

  • Id kill to have 1:11 to end transc

  • ribed.

  • Goosebumps! Your hornline was superb this season. It can only get better from here!

  • I've watched this video about 10 times now, and even on the 10th time, I'm still getting goosebumps!

I'm going to miss every one so very much!

  • I was one of those 16 tubas and we did that "Alleluia" at every show warm up and it still gives me goosebumps watching this.

  • You guys did a fantastic job!

  • they will claim a medal in the next two years

  • ...And a championship in the next five.

  • this truly is the corps to watch in the future...top talent here

  • my dear jesus in heaven!!

    THAT IS INSANNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • i always had faith that true classical music could be pulled off, never expected crown to be the corps to prove me right. simply orgasmic

  • lol the term is "corpsgasmic" =D

  • :-D

  • Their entire staff just about is Star of Indiana.

  • still hard to beat the amen cadence...congrats Crown!

  • Harloff is so amazing and congrats to crown on a 4th place finish

  • The brass head of crown is a Star alumni member and former drum major lol. So that might explain it

  • Yeah Harlofff!!!!

  • nighbeat on sunday is gonna be amazing, top 3 corps from san antonio battlin' it out!

  • Holy shizzbang...they're going to surpass what Star did in brass. I'm glad to have a home team again.

  • Ben, I agree. I have not heard a huge brass sound like that (that actually sounds GOOD) for a long, long time. Crown is not the next Star of Indiana, they are the next Carolina Crown. Yes, we now have someone to root for on finals night.

  • They're just incredible. Nothing else to say about it. Best Corps in DCI!

  • :36-:40 sounds so delicious it makes me salivate

  • HOLY SHIT!!! @ 1:38

  • yeah! that was the loudest thing i heard all day.

  • amazing hornline!! heard most corps live this season...Crown is by far the best! I cannot believe how musical they are!!!

  • 1:06 is nasty. :-)

  • I want anybody to listen to this horn book and say Crown needs to "step up the difficulty"

They DEFINATLY got the VOLUME thing licked!

  • wow great stuff!
