  • Turin brakes version of this song is pretty cool

  • Awesome to see all the TES references here :D

I always picture those mockney-accented "Dunmah" from Skyrim singing this song

  • lovely song! *_* and lovely Dyke's interpretation!

  • just a lucid dream, like that DLL

  • when I shites hands with you

  • LOL this is supposed to be east end cockney. You Americans are funny

  • Don't know why, but this song always kind of creeps me out in a way I enjoy. It's just the tune that really gets to me.

  • Better than Diagnosis Murder !

  • I climb you, moon and moon, and Dance on your Tower. AE CHIM CE ALTADOON for my own revenge I eat you. AE CHIM CE ALTADOON for my own revenge I eat you.

  • "CHIM. Those who know it can reshape the land. Witness the home of the Red King Once Jungled." So,mr. Dick Van Dyke is Mankar Camoran it seems. Hah,this video is officially part of the TES lore from now on. Anyway, take a look at Morrowind metaphysics and the whole TES lore, not bad from philosophical point of view, even good theory of existence. Takes awhile to figure out CHIM :)

  • @Totalimmortal93 How..does it fit into TES lore? because of the Chimer?

  • @RedDracolich

The Chimer are not linked to CHIM. CHIM is an ancient word for 'Royalty' - hence the Amulet of Kings being called the Chim-El Abadal. CHIM is the realisation that (bear with me) the entirety of TES - even the scrolls - is the dream of a sleeping Godhead (sometimes speculated to be Michael Kirkbride, Todd Howard, M'aiq, or the player) and being able to say 'I am yet I am not'. From that you can 'see past the dream' and take control of your destiny and the world.

  • ARGH ENOUGH NO MORE CHIM.

    GOD DAMN IT /v/!

  • HEY GUYS WHATS THIS CHIM THING PEOPLE KEEP TALKING ABOUT

  • A typical The Elder Scrolls thread.

  • He acquired CHIM

  • @Kainlarsen >ecks dee

  • I USED TO BE CHIM THEN I CHIMMED MY CHIM XD LOL SO RANDUM

    reddit 4ever

  • @Tanx913 LOL where is this mans thumbs up! THAT WAS SOOO FANNY!

  • Mankar Camorin was right!

  • Holy shit he just achieved CHIM!

  • DICK VAN DYKE IS THE GODHEAD.

  • MEANWHILE IN WINTERHOLD

  • Did he break the fourth wall?

  • FUCKING ELDER SCROLLS LORE

  • LOVE THIS.

  • HEY GUYS WHAT DOES CHIM MEAN?

  • @Scorpiondesu L2 TES metaphysics.

  • @lusteraliaszero theawnsertotesplotholes.avi

  • @Scorpiondesu Chim is common British slang for anilingus. What you call Rimming we call giving her the ol' Chim Chiminey.

  • Vivec's favourite song.

  • *beep* Van *beep* - Chim Chim Cher-ee 1,12 min

  • Reminds me of Kramer

  • And then they all died of tubercolosis.

  • I guess23 people, have problems with their ears.

  • chim-chiming chim-chiming chim chim chroo we are those bastards in claret and blue

  • jeezus how did they let him get away with that shite London accent??

  • Everyone wants Dick Van Dyke to be their father.... I know I always have, my Mother always has....

  • I love him, it reminds me of when I used to watch the Dick Van Dyke show with my parents...

  • Imagine your name being Dick Van Dyke :')

  • Wow classic I like this cool

  • I remember when I was a little boy, I was maybe 3 years old, I was very sick. And my dad came home from work with some medicine and also got me Mary Poppins on cassette and a teddy bear. It's amazing the things that can stay with you. Anytime I hear Mary Poppins, I'm taken back to that night and remembering what wonderful parents I have.

  • @OneCrayGuy89 Now that you mention that, I have a similar story! I had some teeth pulled when I was nine. I was going to get braces, and my mouth had a few too many teeth. Anyway, my Mom got me a storybook based on the movie. It was fairly simple to read; but not babyish! Since "Mary Poppins" was one of my very favorite movies; she bought it for me to read while at home recovering! I remember the book very well, and may still have it somewhere!

  • Thank you.

  • 1,13 you have to change it in the title :P

  • Who the hell dislikes this?

  • I'm only 21 but this brings me back to my childhood. Good memories of this movie :)

  • Dick Van Dyke.

    THE DEFINITION OF BRILLIANCE!

    :D

  • When I was little I only watched this movie like, 2 times, and I'm just now realizing that the sweeps were my favorite characters. I don't now why, I just found them interesting.

  • @pastorgeorgem Different kids played in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. They did act together in the movie The Gnome Mobile.

  • @wilber53 Another movie that they appeared together in was "The Three Lives Of Thomasina", which was about a little girl (Dotrice) who had a mysterious cat. The cat's name was Thomasina, and she was believed to have died, then, went to a cat heaven, then reappeared again. It was like she had lived one or two of her lives then came back w/another new life! I don't know if anyone remembers it, but it too was by Walt Disney. It came out either slightly before or after "Mary Poppins".

  • I love it

  • Sorry but no one in those days would ever go run shaking a chimney sweepers hand

  • My munf will rub off when i shake 'ands with you

  • theses two children and Dick also were in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

  • @pastorgeorgem I don't think they're the same children as in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

  • After you've scrubbed, Have Mercy! All the floors in Hyrule!

  • @KoolThing14 OH BOY! I'M SO HUNGRY, I COULD EAT A SPOON FULL OF SUGAR!

  • @Useless2112 Hahahahaha.

  • I don't really care for celebrities because most of them have inflated egos and think they're better than us, but there are a handful of celebrities that I would LOVE to meet and Dick Van Dyke tops that list. Truly one of the finest entertainers and he seems incredibly down to earth!

  • Still a shit job though.

  • Brilliant, thanks Mr And Mr Sherman!

  • The king brought me here XD

  • A dinner is as lucky, as lucky can be!

  • @SpartaBros from youtube poop?

  • @SpartaBros Chim chiminy, chim chimery, chim chim cher-oo.

My munf will rub off when i shakes 'ands with you.

  • For 2 years now, I've been coming back to old classic television shows. I finished watching all the episodes of The Brady Bunch, The Andy Griffith Show, Leave it to Beaver, The Golden Girls, The Waltons, and now I am currently watching The Dick Van Dyke Show. Mr. Van Dyke is just an amazingly talented entertainer. Just saw him on Leno earlier and he is still so fully of energy. He is such a breath of fresh air and you can't help but smile when you see him perform!

  • Just now watching Dick Van Dyke on Leno, and had to find this clip. He's 85 years old and still going strong.

  • aww dick van dyke is a legend. my favorite actor ever!

  • I think you've missed my point.

  • This brings back so many childhood memories :3

  • The cheeriest, most lovable cockerney in musical history. Okay his accent is a massive fail but that's all part of the charm of this classic <3

  • "..or bloah me a kiss..."??????

    A roight Disney® cocker-neee accent guv'nor.

    ;-)

  • you remember when even Disney's live action movies were awesome?

  • He's a member of the ministry of silly walking.

  • Dick VanDyke is one of those actors when you watch him, you just come away feeling so good. Most of the stuff on tv today is just crap. This was a time when tv was full of magic and good times and innocence. Bring back the 60's, we need em.

  • @tsjrlover Yep, cause who needs all that equal rights crap? Yep, bring back the sexism and racism, cause damn - those movies just made us feel so damn good with the magic and innocence! ;)

  • I love it. Im german so when I was little I watched the german version which is surprisingly just as great (a little better in opinion but thats cause I knew it like this)

  • But dick van dyke is still great

  • Dick van dyke has an almost Irish accent as Bert gavin lee (ironically the only british bert) has an australian accent and Gavin creel has the British accent

  • kjhgiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiifu

  • I think the accent is awesome... ajha

  • It shows that Dick Van Dyke's dialect coach was apparently Irish.

  • He's American not British, the accent he's trying to do is a cockney accent, there's no such thing as a British accent. :)

  • Worst British accent ever!

  • @derbyallstarchloe

he is British. you mean worst Cockney (east london) accent ever

  • why do u hate this song its amazing its like old british accent

  • A sweep is as lucky as lucky could be! Chim chiminee!

  • haha, I've read all the comments about how terrible his accent is. I love his accent!

  • Brings back old times

  • As a kid, Van Dyke's accent (or lack thereof) didn't matter, and it shouldn't matter now. You can't be a nit-picky cynic and love Disney at the same time :P

  • "oh blow me a kiss.." it's your accent that blows, pal

  • Dick van Dyke has a god awful cockney accent

  • @Smurfberrymuffins who cares really, it's a classic movie.. surly you can overlook one slight flaw??

  • @Smurfberrymuffins That's part of what makes it funny and spooky.

  • i wish they still made movies like these!!!

  • i love dancing viennese waltz to this song :)

  • this is such a sad song

  • ngl this song haunted my nightmares when I was little.

  • His accent is the whole stereotype of the film, how rich and posh people are supposed to act and speak, whereas there's the commoner who has loads of bad jobs, different to the higher class, and also speaks differently.

  • no body would be that nice to people who are lower class as them, chimney sweeper would shake hands with upper class,

  • i like how this song won an oscar

  • we sung this today in school was a fail :L

  • Lovely vfideo clip

  • I LOVE DICK!!!

  • @happymax1 no homo?

  • I really like Dick

  • Dad?

  • Hehe, so cute. This was stuck in my head for ages. I watched Mary Poppins over and over again when I was younger!

  • I was actually whistling this song at my work, and to my surprise, everyone at my work joined in. Yea, the magic of Mary Poppins still lives

  • 20 people didn't shake hands with him and missed the like button.

  • this is one of the most beautiful film scenes ever made! the poignant minor waltz melody, the poetry of the words, the dark rainy colors. the passing blacksmith dude with the pipe, the kids signing along. the sheer imaginative *loveliness* of it. they just don't make things like this anymore!!!!!

  • to 19 who dislikes this video, maybe you just cant feel the spirit of how to be a child once. wallyjig

  • @wallyjig They dislike the same things this movie dislikes -- the perfect nanny is never mean to animals. code.

  • In my opinion there is a beautiful metaphor that lies behind the figure of the chimney sweeper: we should clean up the ash that hides in every home fireplace, or in any family, such as the Banks, the protagonists of the movie! And the chimney sweeper is a magnificent gothic character, very close to some recent Tim Burton's characters, who often see the world upside down, but in the best way!

  • @MicheleAngelo79 And then get black lung and die poor in the streets.

  • @MicheleAngelo79 Especially the talk Bert has with Mr. Banks before he goes to meet with his higer ups.

  • That's not luck. That's E coli.

  • I remember watching this for the first time, and thinking, where does this man come from, because his accent seemed to change every two minutes! I understand now!

  • if some dirty bloke ran singing through the streets with two children who obviously don't belong to him these days... he'd be shot in the matter of seconds...

  • I just now found out that he plays the old night guard in "Night at the Museum"

  • i just wonder what this song is? what's this call? because i heard this years ago....and i totally forgot about it... i quite liked it!

  • @minikinoppy

    It's 'Chim Chim Cheree'.

My mom named a cat after this song once, but the family usually just used her nickname of Chimmers.

  • Classic musical. The accent adds a lovely charm which only he can give.

  • Okay, get over the accent. Get into the tune. It's a little catchy, you know?

  • It's pretty quiet as I remember.

  • He just goes shaking people's hands while skipping with kids.

Okay, I'm going to try this. In the city. Singing this song and shaking strangers hands.

  • @xMeliMoonshinex But wouldn't you need to be a chimney sweep for it to work?

  • What part of England was he meant to be from? Albania?

  • that is by far the WORST british accent I have EVER heard

  • @EcakCake2 Van Dyke recently admitted on Feguson it was taught to him by an Irishman

  • @EcakCake2 Van Dyke recently admitted on Ferguson it was taught to him by an Irishman

  • this is one of the first Disney songs I ever learned

  • Dick Van who ?

  • I grew up watching this movie and loved it it was very powering to me

  • they just dont do showbiz like this anymore...

  • I'm disappointed to see all the criticisms of the Very talented Dick Van Dyke. Say what you will about him, but the man is amazingly talented. He could sing and dance, and his facial expressions were timeless! His show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, was stopped, while it was at the top, and it's considered the #1 comedy of the 60's by many. It made me laugh as a child, and it makes me laugh today, and he continued using his talents in shows like Diagnosis Murder. God Bless him!

  • @Beautifulmusiclistnr He's pretty much admitted that this is possibly the worst Cockney accent ever put to film, but he's still wonderful, and this always makes me smile.

  • Even though I was born in 86 I regret, that this time full of Tom a Jerry, Marry Poppins, Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, My Fair Lady etc. is gone.

Today the world is only a place full of violence, sex, hate and anger, where people have fun by watching stupid reality shows and different criminal stories from L.A., Miami, Las Vegas.... whatever!!

    This is really sad...

  • @Pishtucha know how you feel, but at least these people will be remembered for being simply amazing!

  • @Pishtucha

You're remembering the past in a only-positive tense. There were many bad things then too, and there are many good things today. Get over yourself.

  • @PivotSanctuary212 name me at least five good things... I don't deny, that that era was also full of bad events and things, however, it was way better than today!

  • @Pishtucha

    1. Cures for all sorts of diseases which painfully killed many people.

    2. Peace in many parts of the world which were previously wartorn.

    3. Technological advancements.

    4. New skilled actors emerging.

    5. New, entertaining TV shows emerging.

    6. Police forces helping to keep more order.

    7. Less drug activity in many parts of the world.

    need I go on?

  • @PivotSanctuary212

    1. Cancer? AIDS? Multiple Sclerosis? .... Cures??? Ok... if you think so...

    2. Peace was brought to some parts but in other parts many wars started - FAIL!

    3. great!!! And due to that people became more lazy, more stupid, aren't able to survive in nature and so on... FAIL

    4. + 5. are you kidding me? These are good things?

    6. ... more order for those, who have money - FAIL!

    7. uhmm... in which country do you live???? NEVERLAND???

  • @Pishtucha

I'm not going to bother arguing with you. You're obviously very stupid. There are other diseases than Cancer, Aids, ect; peace being brought is good even if wars start elsewhere, and I'm sure having more advanced tech will not make it so that humanity becomes anything like you seem to imagine it. 4 + 5 ARE good things, but you won't realize that, you being an idiot. Good bye, and enjoy being blocked.

  • @PivotSanctuary212 I'm five years older than you, you don't know me and still you're courageous enough to call me stupid and an idiot - see - that's the other thing, that could hardly happen in those times because of the reasons I have already mentioned in my first comment... sorry, but that's something you can't deny!

  • @Pishtucha : You should have seen the french 90s. Cartoons were overly sad, speaking about overly mind destroying topics such as being tortured by the Devil after a plane accident, being abandonned without any family and seeing all your friends die one by one in the cold, and young girls losing their parents and becoming the slave everyone treats like shit in a boarding school.

    Good times for sure.

  • @Ganerumo yeah... the czech 40s, 50s, 60s and especially 70s and 80s weren't that great as well! You know... Era full of comunism, dictatorship, no freedom of speech blah, blah, blah etc. etc... and yet I'd like to live in that time, coz these days are too scary!

  • @Ganerumo Those were the best of times! How I long to revisit the sad beauty of my childhood, when the world knew that it was alright for children to know what death was, and a kid could grow up knowing and feeling differently from each and every one of their peers. The blandness and homogeny which so narrows modern childrens' views of the world will not make them happier. It'll just make them boring adults.

  • @Pishtucha

Sex, violence, hate and anger have not changed people watching cop shows and movies are the same, James bond movies...filled with sex and violence. The Misfits, horror punk band, sang about killing babies and all sorts of nast shit. The way you see the world is the only thing that actually changes not the world itself....

  • сучарище

  • I´m not english so i just ask. It´s the first time i´m listening to this song in english. Does he sounds drunk? or is that just a kind of dialect or accent?

when he says "when i shake hands" or "good luck will rub off".Or am i just stupid and my english is worse then i thought?

  • @Fuma159159 It was Dick Van Dyke failed attempt at a British accent. Even he admits it was bad.

  • @Fuma159159 nah english is a terrible language we use SO much slang i speak it and i admit it

  • @Android7611

Are you serious or are you just kidding me?

  • @Fuma159159 lol. and your english sounds fine. it's not worse THAN you thought. or you're saying: "am i just stupid? - my english is worse, then, after that, I thought." :-)

  • @lsjd22 oh lol. ok thanks for the correction. :D i wanted to tap "Than".

  • @lsjd22 ok lol. thx for the correction. :D of course i wanted to write "than"

  • Dick Van Dyke - ♥♥♥♥

Probably my favorite actor of all time! He was soooooo such an amazing dancer and actor and he even sang, too! Nowadays, you normally only get one of those traits in a famous person. Luuuuv Van Dyke! =)

  • @ffOSTnerd217 well, i think that musical actor can sing and dance too. Maybe it´s a special karma that makes him special ^^

  • 18 people have no heart

  • This is the most lesson filled movie ever. The work of blue collar workers is just as important as any other form of work. Spending time with your children (Feed the Birds), children cleaning their room/responsbility lol.
