If anyone on this planet of ours who so deserves some kind of an award it has to be this man he does not know the difference between soul, funk or disco, who the hell gives a cuss, what he does know and in shedloads is the ability to motivate to inspire and to bring in all of us the one thing we have in plenty,Our Voice in Song, and for that reason Gareth is and will always be a man who has that magic to do what he does,Military "Wives Choir got the top slot at Christmas, over 500,000 CDs sold??
Congratulations Gareth, you are an inspiration. Please don't lose your wonderful humility with the fame that is coming your way. You have a gift that is helping people to connect with music in a very personal way... by giving us confidence to open our mouths to send that music soaring, lifting lives out of depression and fear of the unknown.
Although i\m not a singer but a jazz guitarist/teacher ( since 1969) i truly admire any who teach kids to appreciate the finer aspects of music. Music is a healing force...probably the only vehicle that unites people from all backgrounds. Thank you Gareth!

Lots of love from your colonial cousin from across the pond. It's never too late or early ; your never too old or young to be inspired, passionate and couragous. Music and the art are forever - thanks for keeping it alive in all of us.
Well done! Gareth you ARE making a positive difference in more lives than you could possible know. He reminds me a bit of the energizer bunny...he never quits.
Gareth is so awesome! I think he was really good for the schools he went to; he showed the students that there was more options in music. I think he's a great teacher. To Gareth, if he is reading this: I am a fan! Keep up the awesome work! You rock!
I'd didn't even know who this guy was until yesterday, when I watched 4 episodes on my Demand Channel for BBC America. It was fascinating all the problems he was encountering developing choirs. The problem that hit home the most was finding male basses willing to participate. When you build a choir, finding sopranos and altos is no problem. They will find you. But prospective tenors, and basses will run and hide from choir directors. Especially the basses. They are an endangered species.
its awesome to know that there are people like me that adore Gareth Malone. He is so awesome!! <3 I don't know how I lived without him before I discovered the Chior. 1:35-1:51
My family and I watched a marathon of The Choir I think it's the second one, the one where Gareth goes to the High School and they compete in China. It just happened to be on and we couldn't stop watching it!
Jeez, 16 reactions to a guy that I think should receive knighthood. I'm torn in admiration between the people that gave their voices and the hero that tricked them into it. I consider myself a a tough and cynical mofo but the series gave me moist eyes. Thank you BBC and thank all of you wonderful people that sang. Deep, deep respect from Holland.
@cabotgal1982 I'm a teacher myself and I find him quite inspiring. I understand many of the frustrations he goes through but I also share his sense of satisfaction once the job's been done!!
I love him too. This series of The Choir was amazing and I'm really going to miss it. I really hope the South Oxhey Choir keeps going as they sounded fantastic.
So glad we have another series of The Choir to enjoy. Absolutely love the musical adventure you go on. It is at times very moving and on more than one occasion I've grabbed the tissues. Thank you Gareth and everyone who has had the courage to go on the journey. Well done all of you.
How great that must be ! What an inspiration Gareth is, bet you're all over the moon he's going to stay on and be your Choirmaster. You were all wonderful ! Hope you all keep it up ! Will miss the series, shame it was only 4 episodes.
Yes well, I quit after a while :( I thought it was boring! Well I was in the childrens choir. I wish I would have stayed. And yes, shame it was only 4 episodes, considering we were being filmed for about.. 7 months!
Oh what a shame you quit. Often one of the things you don't appreciate until you're older. I remember being in the school choir (voluntarily) and quite a lot of it was boring - but I remember when we got to join up with a whole bunch of other school choirs and performed Faure's Requiem (Agnus Dei is from that)... WOW what a buzz, just the most amazing feeling to be part of something like that. Maybe, as Gareth is staying, you could go back. Good Luck !
Yeah well, my dad is joining the Choir next week I think. He has talked to him before and he really wants to join. And to be honest, I don't know if the chance will come back round for me again, as I am in a new school now. But you never know.
Well good luck to your Dad, hope he enjoys it and good luck to you in your new school - can be a bit difficult to fit in other activities when you have to get used to a whole new environment, unfamiliar teachers etc. loads of study and homework but it is good to find something outside of school that you enjoy (gives you a nice break from all that, if you have the time to spare of course) Well, I wish you loads of luck for the future. : - )

He is so modest and down to earth. Wish we had more people like this on TV. What a great role model for kids.

He's pretty much my ideal in terms of a teacher. Every kid should have someone like that in their school and it's incredibly sad that they don't.
