@nyerndc That's what I said, he made 750K a year and they only had 500K in savings, what's wrong with that picture and I bet Mom has some really nice jewelry she could pawn.........
@schismpersonality. He deserves it because he made choices to live at his means instead of far below them, then took a high risk thinking he probably wouldn't lose. Oh, and yes, if I had his income, I'd gladly take it, but my tax bill would probably be higher than my living expenses.
I just can´t believe this idiot wasmaking 750k a year and didn´t have a home paid in full!!!!! Give me a fucking break, if he and his pretty wife spend like royals there is never enough money....
"please dont tell me they still have cable tv and cell phones?"
@misssazzygrl1980 In today's world, cell phones aren't a luxury. He probably needs one to do his job, and if he's still seeking an actual career, then he'd better have a cell phone on him to make sure he can be immediately responsive to interest from prospective employers.
you can tell that theyve learned not much from their mistakes because they accepted 30,000$ a year for their children's public school. please. that is beyond retarded when public education, which is usually better than private schools anyways, are free.

he will be okay eventually he will have another finance job but not in Florida he needs to get his CPA or something he is in the finance industry he will get a job he just needs to relocate and give effort and settle for maybe 100k or 80k
freaking people thats why saving is much necessary!!! why didnt he knew that? hw should have known that money cannot sustain if you do not create minimum level of savings!!and why didnt he wake up after $100,000 lost or after $200,000 loss? only after loosing $500,000 he knew that he was a bankrupt? i am sorry my friend but if you cannot judge stoping point for your own finance how would you ever be able to manage whole hedge fund?
@rockingnandpatel he should have never tried to use that 500K in savings to try to dig himself out of hole. He should have just cut his loses and sit on that 500K and try to get another job. 500K is alot of money. Thats more money than alot of people make in 15 years. and $30,000 a year for kids elementary school? time to tell those kids to suck it up and go to a public school or at least a cheaper private school. Tell that friend to give them the money instead of wasting it on a damn school
@destroyer8604 That's the mindset of the rich in this country. They think they.re entitled to this life style once they reached it. 500k would have started a comfortable new life at a lower standard of living, but they chose to stay where they were. Fuck ABC for selling it as a sad story.

The thing is you should never act like things last forever. You never know when it all gets taken away from you. made 750,000 a year and only had 500,000 in savings. Thats was his biggest problem. He and his wife went out and spent, spent and spent some more. They went out and got at least a 3 million dollar home by the looks of it. Just because you have $ doenst mean you spend it. you can live comfortably with 40,000 a year. If he had saved for 4 years he would have had 2 million in savings.

I'm sorry, this is sad - but, does everyone live on credit these days??. Come on, $750K a year and you lived on the edge? They had to have it all and them some. Perhaps this is a good lesson to them. The most important thing you can do is never live beyond your means and live as debt free as possible. I guess that mansion doesn't look as good these days. Personally I would take a small modest bungalow with $100K in the bank (or mattress these days).
@hrobbins why is that though? because I'm currently a bachlor of management student and was considering and mba after I graduate........but now looking at this it makes me nervous if a guy like this can't get a job......I'm a screwed?
@M4x4p4c Well, no absolutely not. A lot of industries are hurting right now, and it's difficult for anyone to get a job. That doesn't mean you shouldn't pursue an MBA, or continue your current studies. Jobs will eventually become available.
@M4x4p4c you should continue on your plan. Just because jobs are tough to come by now doesnt mean tough times will last forever. This guy left his good paying job to start his own hedgefund. His fund went under along with a lot of other funds. He too will recover.
Um...first off..his wife looks completely useless...money or not...i dont think that woman would ever get her nails dirty...so first things first...NEVER marry a useless woman (about 80% of women out there) and then the rest well..figure it out...
His income was $750k but his life savings was only $500k? Dude must've had a problem managing money. If I were making $750 annually, I would have side investments which would probably double my income. Not only that, it wouldn't take me more than $100k to live off of. That's why it's not how much you make, it's how much you keep.
Don't feel sorry for this guy. He quit his job, took a risk starting his own hedge fund, and failed. It happens. You take a risk, there is a risk of loss. Oh well
hey a job is a job. there are many of people in the world who are disabled, cant walk, missing legs, etc. Atleast they have their health and families.
Pizza delivery is actually a healthy job, it's a good work out. It's good for your conscience as your not lying or BS ing all day like many suit and tie people do. More people should try it.
it just goes to show you that life as you know it can change in an instant. Always be modest. Even if you make good money, hundreds of thousands per year. Certainly take some time to enjoy life but always prepare for the down time. Everyone should read the book rich dad poor dad.
@hint0122 And he bought a little house he still has. They should have had a home that was paid in full. Then they wouldn't be struggling with payments. 750,000 a year and no home paid for?? What were they thinking?
@tacitus7 because they probably bought a 5-10 million dollar home instead of a regular 400-500k home that normal people get. They wanted to be like all the movie stars and have a big million dollar mansion when it was really out of their price range. Many americans do the same thing. Buy stuff thats out of their price range and dont think things through.
$30,000 a year for private school?? What the freak??? That same $30,000 could get them a DECENT apartment or mobile home and supplement their salaries. Time for these people to get out of this insanely expensive house, file for bankruptcy and move on!!!! I have no sympathy for them. They are STILL living above their means.
some one else is paying for there children's school and they don't know who is it.( i think and old family friend)
and there house are not theres yet and they cant sell it or pay the rest of its mortgage
and they r planing to sell the rest of there stuff .
but what i really think is gonna happen , is that his wife is gonna leave him coz we always see that happening with american wifes and i really dont know why ?
@deadncryin seriously, If a woman leaves a man when he goes broke, then it is obvious that she has loved money & status, but not the person inside him..jesus christ, i did not know women are like that..
These people look keen to deserve sympathy but they have forgotton thousands of people dying in haiti due to cholera.. no american is poor..they have things to eat
not that i dont feel for the guy i really do but dont you think that once it becomes all too real that shit is going downhill FAST that you'd downsize your house?! jesus christ man how much are utilities for that place..and what about the taxes?
Watching these two during the interview, I get the impression the husband is hurt because he's barely making ends meet, while the wife seems embarrassed and humiliated by her husband.
I'm not happy this happened to them, and yet it seems such a fitting result for their fiscal indulgence.
@hootiepaladin the only reason she hasnt filed for divorce is because she wouldnt get anything or couldnt even pay for the divorce and no guys nowadays with kids
@thesimpsons2345 They're stupid. Shouldn't of bought the big house, what's the use for it? I would've bought a small house in a good upper-middle class neighborhood for about 400,000. Saved-up some money for myself. It's common-sense.
@airman310 lol totally. My sister's dirt poor, and she's a republican, voting AGAINST the programs that keep her family alive (like food stamps and medicare). It's a total contradiction to be a poor republican.
Yea, for the "hope and change" from Obama with his massive spending, driving the nation into a even bigger dept hole... I hope you all love being a 21century SLAVE!
what a fat man and his stupid wife. that's the best job he could get? and his wife too, that's the best job she could get? what american filth. they should be out digging up land mines in Iraq
i dont feel sorry fore them at all becouse the blue collar workers who had their home forclosured an this guy didnt it might have humbed them but familys are homless n broke hes doing a hell of a lot better off
i dont feel sorry for those at AIG and those bailed out but this guy went to school and worked hard to get the good life and now he feeling the hard times and i am sure this has humbled this person something that all those bailed out will never see they will not know the hard times of the american workers bule or white collar a like face just because someone has a white collar job dose not mean they have the good life
i wonder though if he thoght about the risk and looked at long term outlook of the markets no matter what one must always look and think in the long term no matter what it is that they do one must always remeber you may be making money now but that dose not mean you will be making money later in that same it is hard not to be blinded by the black ink but it hurt when you see the red i hope that this man can get back on his feet and i think when he dose he will be stronger and wiser after this
For a Hedge Fund manager, he is not a really good manager of his own finances. If I have made that kind of money over however long he worked there, you'd bet I would be retired right now living off my interests instead of delivering Pizza. Hell, even half a million dollars can generate a pretty sizable amount of cash to live on if he had invested correctly and did not have all those expensive accommodations to take care of. I have zero sympathy for this guy. He should have known better.
@DifangDuana And he wasn't a very good Hedge Fund manager either in my opinion because many people in finance know at the end of 06 that the economy was going to turn into a massive and long recession, it was only the media and the government that kept trying to deny it. Furthermore, I agree with what you said as well. A friend of mine makes only $250,000 a year but is retiring in 6 years at age 55 with $3 million dollars socked away. These two are greedy ignorant idiots.
@TomsFriendKake But, props to this man for doing something. At least he is trying to feed his family as best as he can right now. Most guys like him wouldn't take a fast food job.
He should have had a side hustle.....In other words a skill or a business that provides a second source of income.... A number of wealthy people have side hustles......Jay Z has a clothing line......Oprah publishes a magazine......50 Cent peddles vitamin water.....and Chris Rock owns a string of dry cleaners........I seriously doubt that any of them will ever show up at your door delivering pizza.
Wow, I really admire this guy's humility. I could never see myself go that route, but when you have kids, I guess you'll stoop down to the lowest level to see that they're given the best one can afford. That being said, they could've saved much more of that money during the fat years. When you're making over $100K for well over a decade, it is weird that your savings were a paltry $500K. If one lives frugally, one can save bundles of money. So always live below your means.
To everyone saying "why didn't they save money?" did you not hear the part where they said that the family went through their savings already???? They had half a million dollars saved up!!!
Listen to what they say before commenting on their "stupidity".
Wow this is a horrible story! It' nice that his friend is paying the 30,000 tuition but how about sent the kids to public school and use the 30,000 for the future?
You see... it's called SAVING for a rainy day. Fuck around, and get taken out with the trash. These people don't have a $1 to their name... just dept built on dept... the trueth was, they had NOTHING to start with, they fooled themself!
In a perfect world, in a true meritocracy, a guy with his skills and ambition would not have to deliver pizza. The ugly truth is that, in America, a job applicant who is middle-aged or obese often does not get past the initial interview.
This guy saved about a year's salary, stepped out of his comfort zone, quit his job and started his own business. He gambled and lost it all. Now he has to start over in a crowded job market where he competes with people half his age.
i feel sorry for the bankers and hedge fund managers who lost their job in the recent financial crisis more than the mainstreet citizen blue collar workers who had their home forclosured. my heart goes out to the former employees of bearstearns, lehman brothers, merrill lynch and etc
from $750,000 to probably $15,000... from fine dinners to FOOD STAMPS... That's fucked up, but they asked for it, they probably never had any money saved up for these tuff times. I hope I don't see these people on the street. If the guy get's smart about life, we will be at the top if he works hard IMHO.
Awwwww, poor family, I feel so sorry for them. NOT!

M4x4p4c 1 year ago
@M4x4p4c Well, no absolutely not. A lot of industries are hurting right now, and it's difficult for anyone to get a job. That doesn't mean you shouldn't pursue an MBA, or continue your current studies. Jobs will eventually become available.
jmurphrocks15 1 year ago
@M4x4p4c you should continue on your plan. Just because jobs are tough to come by now doesnt mean tough times will last forever. This guy left his good paying job to start his own hedgefund. His fund went under along with a lot of other funds. He too will recover.

His income was $750k but his life savings was only $500k? Dude must've had a problem managing money. If I were making $750 annually, I would have side investments which would probably double my income. Not only that, it wouldn't take me more than $100k to live off of. That's why it's not how much you make, it's how much you keep.

Pizza delivery is actually a healthy job, it's a good work out. It's good for your conscience as your not lying or BS ing all day like many suit and tie people do. More people should try it.

@hint0122 And he bought a little house he still has. They should have had a home that was paid in full. Then they wouldn't be struggling with payments. 750,000 a year and no home paid for?? What were they thinking?
tacitus7 7 months ago
@tacitus7 because they probably bought a 5-10 million dollar home instead of a regular 400-500k home that normal people get. They wanted to be like all the movie stars and have a big million dollar mansion when it was really out of their price range. Many americans do the same thing. Buy stuff thats out of their price range and dont think things through.

I'm not happy this happened to them, and yet it seems such a fitting result for their fiscal indulgence.

i wonder though if he thoght about the risk and looked at long term outlook of the markets no matter what one must always look and think in the long term no matter what it is that they do one must always remeber you may be making money now but that dose not mean you will be making money later in that same it is hard not to be blinded by the black ink but it hurt when you see the red i hope that this man can get back on his feet and i think when he dose he will be stronger and wiser after this
araka08 1 year ago
For a Hedge Fund manager, he is not a really good manager of his own finances. If I have made that kind of money over however long he worked there, you'd bet I would be retired right now living off my interests instead of delivering Pizza. Hell, even half a million dollars can generate a pretty sizable amount of cash to live on if he had invested correctly and did not have all those expensive accommodations to take care of. I have zero sympathy for this guy. He should have known better.
DifangDuana 1 year ago
@DifangDuana And he wasn't a very good Hedge Fund manager either in my opinion because many people in finance know at the end of 06 that the economy was going to turn into a massive and long recession, it was only the media and the government that kept trying to deny it. Furthermore, I agree with what you said as well. A friend of mine makes only $250,000 a year but is retiring in 6 years at age 55 with $3 million dollars socked away. These two are greedy ignorant idiots.

doodoobrown1987 1 year ago
Wow, I really admire this guy's humility. I could never see myself go that route, but when you have kids, I guess you'll stoop down to the lowest level to see that they're given the best one can afford. That being said, they could've saved much more of that money during the fat years. When you're making over $100K for well over a decade, it is weird that your savings were a paltry $500K. If one lives frugally, one can save bundles of money. So always live below your means.
pdruiz2005 1 year ago

In a perfect world, in a true meritocracy, a guy with his skills and ambition would not have to deliver pizza. The ugly truth is that, in America, a job applicant who is middle-aged or obese often does not get past the initial interview.

This guy saved about a year's salary, stepped out of his comfort zone, quit his job and started his own business. He gambled and lost it all. Now he has to start over in a crowded job market where he competes with people half his age.
