There is No woman I have heard of alive or dead who has the dexterity, precision, passion, and just down right Soul as the Lovely Ella.
P.S. she lived a long life Full of music (ahem.... sorry to the amy winehouse fans[myself incuded] I would have loved to hear her mature and sing into her 70's or 80's).
Now, here is a singer who could sing right up until the end of her life. Wish Barbra Streisand had the chops for that. Ella was way beyond her years and her voice was sublime.
this is stunning! an older Ella with depth to her voice that she didn't have when she was younger (of course she never missed a note). Joe Pass is wonderful! He rocks but never gets in her way. I'm an old rocker, but this is really one of the most perfect series of sounds you will ever hear.
24 people have no soul, and cannot understand or comprehend the true genius of these two artists. One of the greatest jazz guitarists ever, and the singer who could hit notes you'd think only a finely tuned instrument can make. The simplicity, the passion, no longer present in today's cookie cutter anthem music. Thank God someone was there to record this.
Hey, I’m a young artist, & I would really appreciate it if everyone would check out my cover of Michael Bublé’s “You’re Nobody till Somebody Loves You.” Although I’m knowledgeable that Michael Bublé was not the first to record the song, my version was inspired by his rendition, nonetheless. I promise you that you will not regret giving my version of the song a listen, & it will truly knock you off of your feet! So please listen & enjoy! Thanks!
I just have to say, that I'm so incredibly happy that there are people other than me who admire this much more than the brainwashing auto-tuned music played on 9/10 radio stations these days.
It's a breath of fresh air actually! Ella was from a time and era where singers ACTUALLY sung! I wish singers in the music industry would go back to those times again but unfortunately autotune is the new fad. But you know what, I'm certainly not caught up in it. I prefer singers who use their REAL, God-given vocals to sing. Today singers are so superficial, phony, untalented, and the lyrics that they are singing are so forgettable versus the timeless lyrics of songs in the past.
IMHO (In this order): Ethel Waters, Ella Joe Pass, Sinatra, Lena Horne, Etta James, Billy Holiday, Dinah Washington, Connee Boswell, Judy Garland, Martha Wainright, Shirley Bassey, Elizabeth Welch, The Duke, Glenn Miller. Great song performed by great artists. YouTube has them all. Killer app.
There's no better guitar/vocal combo than there two remarkable professionals. And there are an awful lot of ridiculous comments here by people who are apparently tone deaf.
There was a time when musicians studied their instrument, came up with new and unique styles, even if they took influence from someone else. Accompanying someone like Ella is harder than any solo could ever be. Joe Pass was truly a master of the instrument, and you could write a music book note by note with Ella's singing.
Somehow Ella and Joe could accomplish as much as a symphony orchestra-just the two of them! In fact, I saw the two of them live playing with the Boston Pops. That was truly heaven!
Ella WAS the American Songbook! Anyone that can't appreciate her music has a mental problem, that you shouldn't worry about! You know what they say "Crazy for Breakfast, Crazy for Dinner!"
The Lighthouse was a room full of memories for myself as well. What a great Jazz joint. Another great place in the area was Concerts By The Sea under Redondo Beach Pier.
Perhaps the best jazz singer in history! I love Pass--saw him a half-dozen times at the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach where you sit three feet from him in the "pews"!
Oh, so THIS is what adult women singers are supposed to sound like! Thanks, YouTube. Mr. Pop Music told me he offered the best it got, and I had a feeling he was lying...
@AzraelUK1 I don't like their views either, but still Ella Fitzgerald is a legend, her music is amazing and there are people far worse than republicans.
I listened to this and melted out of my seat onto the floor. *sigh* They just don't make them like this anymore. Subtle, beautiful, perfection. And kudos to you Joe. They play great together, no one overpowering the other, no part distracting from the other. I have to listen to this to remember what real music is. Bless.
@jorovimi please give them both their props. madam holiday was also intense. with respect to fitzgerald, they both ripped it and blew everyone off the roof.
I agree with what you said TXRider but at least in my case my generation is not the jazz generation. I discovered Jazz in college when most popular music was doing nothing for me. I think Jazz will forever be timeless, but we'll never find ourselves in the exact conditions that allowed for its creation and heyday which is probably fortunate as this music was ultimately born from suffering.
