ANY coffee you would buy in Romania would be so much better than Folgers. This is a very good ad to make me not to even try Folgers again. Good job guys!
... like, they don't have coffee in ... Romania? Thank god for those care packages we keep sending those needy victims of WWII! Keep bringing in those bars of soap and pencils kiddies, somewhere in Romania there is an uneducated, grimy Romanian thirsty for Folgers coffee.
i am a Romanian living in Chicago...i don know about the rest of you..but i feel kind of offended by this commercial...believe me..parts of the west and south side of Chicago looks far worse than any village in Romania...
well maybe except the lack of electricity this commercial could be pretty accurate.
But it doesn't end there.. right after the granny pick up her mobile and phones her son(which is the father of the children. you didn't think ppl that old have such young children, did you?)who's working late in the city, to tell him how stupid the american is spending all day unrolling that tv cable when they already have DIGI TV by satellite! :D
Romania rocks and it isnt at all like portrayed in this spot. Probably this was shot at the village museum in Bucharest. Americans should have more respect for a country who is their ally in Iraq and Afghanistan and more. Romania is more developed than a lot of neighborhoods in US, go in south Chicago and see. DONT BUY FOLGERS!
I have to agree! Folger's obviously did not research everything correctly for this commercial from an advertising major's point of view and from a person who's been to Romania a few times...Romania is not stuck in colonial times people! It has progressed a whole lot since the Communist downfall. I do think it's cool that they used Romania since I am from there, but not cool that they don't correctly interpret the country. I can see why ppl are offended.
thats because an overwhelming majority of the U.S. will "buy" this commercial. Biggest problem in America, is the arrogance level. I have worked with so many people over the years that fancy themselves for nothing, brag without action, and accomplish nothing yet lay claims that "God" comes to them for advice............literally.
@xteenax I've been to Romania too. The music in this ad does not sound Romanian, it sounds more Yugoslavian, or like klezmer. And the family does not look Romanian, they look more like Poles or Russians.
First, Brasov is a city. It is not a mountian city, but a regular city near the mountians. There is a ski resort near there, but nothing in Romania resembles aspen or vail dcsh123. I know because I am the only one her who has been to all places. Brasov is not only a city, it is a county. The place on the box is where a county would be written. The area around Brasov county looks exactly like it does in that commercial. Any simple research would show you that.
I am currently in Romania, not on us aid, but working for another organization. I am working with developmentally and physically disabled children in an orphanage. Because things are so rough here and because of the communist stigma, people just give up their kids at the first sign of flaw. This commercial perfectly reflects my experience in Romania. There are US aid workers, and more aid is needed. Here is some information that is incorrect about what people have said.
I wrote the Folgers company about the offensiveness of this commercial and the inaccuracies.... like the fact that Brasov (the address on his care package) is as modern a winter resort as Aspen or Vail. They simply replied with "thanks for your input." Last time I checked they didnt need "US Foreign Aid."
This is outrageous, and bad for Romania's image abroad! I ask everyone who considers this commercial an offense to stop buying this crappy brand of coffee.
Ignorant, and incredibly offensive!!! The people that came up with this commercial must be some idiots from a suburb in a 3rd rate city in the mid-west! I am not Romanian, I live in the US, but I feel this is a horribly wrong misinterpretation... Romania is a part of the EU, people! A very beautiful (and developed) country!
Wow... a modern American man in Romania circa 1890. Hmm. How ignorant of Folger's to assume that Romanians in the countryside don't even have electricity. I wonder if they're inviting Jonathan Harker and Mina over for tea later. Better get your corset ready and invite the gypsies.
What kind of bullshit is this?! Like people in the balkans dont know how to make coffee?!? bahaha and why would romanians enjoy this diarrhea coffee.

The family appears to be eating cozonac @ 0:24, but I can think of a few things that go better with cozonac than Folger's.

The insulting part is that anyone in Romania would think that Folgers is good coffee. LOL

Some people can be so sensitive. This commercial isn't about putting down a country. This is about selling a product.
