  • Hauntingly beautiful song done perfectly by Tom Jones. Unfortunately it is a the sad lament of a death row inmate facing imminent execution. His last wish? To be laid 'neath the green, green grass of home. And in the end, isn't that really what we all?

  • One of the Greatest of all time said:'' Tom Jones is one of the Greatest'' Who was that man? . . . . . . . . You guess, Frank Sinatra...
  • this is a bad idea of a joke given the mood of this song, but i just gotta mention......

Then I awake and look around me,

at the four grey walls that surround me

    and I realize,

    yes,

    i can see those

    i can feel those

    i can see those

    oh oh

    SQUARE ROOMS!!!

  • I remember this from my childhood....a wonderful adaptation of a good country song. I dare present day singers to sing anything like this! Thanks for posting this and thank you Tom for keeping balanced through my hippy days, the Army, my country period...and endless changes.

  • Now this version has the sad part in it---you understand what is going to happen, and it adds irony and tragedy to the song--this last part is needed for a true understanding of the lyrics.
