@wichrau I believe it is stamped "1956". Regarding high sounds: -Don't you know that noises that you dislike, harm your hearing more easily? ;-) The first and second start (this clip) were the only ones indoors. Since then I have towed it outside, and generously educated my neighbours in motor history. Thank you for your concern!
The Rover Meteor was not used in aircraft, it was a ground engine commonly used in Centurion tanks. It shared some common Merlin parts but lacks supercharging, has less HP, and has heavier internals. It cannot be dropped in place as a Merlin substitute. Reject parts from Merlin factories sometimes ended up in Meteor engines as well.
@Paintballboy54 This specific engine has been mounted in a Centurion tank, in the close by military base "P7 Revingehed". The only thing I'm using it for, is to entertain my neighbours occasionally, and educate them in engine history. ;-)
@Paintballboy54 Oh yes! It works fine in that perspective also. One neighbour (100m away) complained about their windows rattled so they coulnd't conversate during their Sunday dinner! Time to replace the windows, I say! ;-)
That was the second time ever, I fired it up! The first time I almost wet my pants... :-) To my neighbours pleasure (NOT!) I have started it many times since...
The Centurion Tank is a very quiet Tank, The Engine without silencer (muffler) is very noisy

This version was installed in a Centurion tank, and had a very low level of tuning. It is only supplying 650hp, but some 2100Nm!

@Massegossen wasn't the Meteor mounted in Mosquitos?

The poor ignition adjustment boost flames, but even with correct adjustment you do not dare to get too close without your asbestos pyjamas...

fantastic!
i would LOVE to be there listening to that run, i could listen to it all day long.
great vid, thanks for sharing

Thanks, slartibartfast69! At this run the ignition adjustment was way off and it ran out of gas. It can do better!
