A quantum computer uses it's own excistance in another dimension right? So actually you can make unlimited calculations at the same time, can you imagine what kind of RAM memory they could make? You'll never ever have to wait a tenth of a second again. Microsoft and Apple, please make an OS for this heavenly device!
It's unwise to predict future technology. It could be much sooner, and when computers begin to design themselves things will change in months not years. Computers don't need sleep!
Your brain is a very simple quantum computer (quantum brain dynamics). Of course much more complex then anything we have invented so far. But was once created by trial and error (darwin), will be engineered. I'm not sure if quantum computers will be a whole new computer, or if they would be something like a PCI card in a regular computer. For now they rely on another computer to understand what to do. With the birth of quantum computers, we will have autonomous vehicles, and full flown AI.
i understand what your saying about our brains being quantam computers but it wasnt to long ago that people were saying our brians are like sylican computers, which in affect is what your saying but with quantam computers. My point here is that although you have justification for your opinioun you can not say we are quantam computers because it might turn out that we will reach a stopping point as we have with sylican computers leaving a void for the next supertechnology to take over.
you mean silicon? you must be dyslexic like me !) You should wikipedia "quantum mind" It explains how our mind works on quantum principals. Also youtube "dr. quantum double slit experiment" and, "what in the bleep do we know?" for the whole series. I have heard we are getting close to the limits of silicone, which is why we are getting more and more cores. There is plenty of false information on the internet, so that could easily be false.
im not dyslexic just a lazy speller and Michio Kaku reitterated the point of silicon (thanks for spelling) computers coming to an end. But to re-point out i do understand were your coming from but find it unjust and almost arragent that you say quantum comuting is like our brains. this is beacuase we have always compared our technologese to our brain for only new technologies to come along and them to be compared.
You and everyone else should check out those videos if you find this video interesting. At least the double slit experiment. I can't really explain the concept of quantum mind, you just have to read the wikipedia article. They say that our brain sends reflexes to our nerves backwards in space, as well as tons of other insane stuff.
I like Roger Penrose. Brilliant man...but our brains are not quantum computers.
AI will be created when we build artificial brains and let them solve the problem of creating a new AI or quantum computers.
Minsky dispenses with the Penrose assertions concerning Goedel's 2nd theorem very well. There's nothing quantum about how we think. We're neural nets, and we make mistakes all the time. That's what neural nets do. Act fast, in general, ballpark guesses and modeling using vast networks
There was some talk some time ago that this is EXACTLY how the brain works and that in fact engrams are laid down in essence at an atomic level with many states possible at one time.
Now never heard anything more about this ... really should go off and find out how that theory or research panned out... Actually now that I think of it....
correction> 20 years off from being available *publicly*. im sure some top secret "behind the scenes" government organizations are sitting on some major highly developed QC technologies *today*.
The military always has to stay atleast 5-20 years ahead of civilian technology, what would happen if a 12 year old kid can obtain the same technology they can?
LOL making the atomic clock more precise. You would think that they would say that it could be used to simulate what would happen if you got sucked into a black hole or something, but no, we think the atomic clock might be off by 0.00000001 nanoseconds
The people working with the atomic clock really deserve the most anal people on earth award
Well' I'm totally fed up of the astonishing achievements that science WILL REACH MAYBE. Because then you realize the truth is a bit different. "Quantum PC can offer the strongest encription". But we already have someone that... cracked the quantum PC even before its birth, using additional electrons etc etc.
It is debatable whether the so-called D-wave quantum computer really is a quantum pc. The results so far (as seen on youtube) could just have been an ordinary pc. There is no scientific information that d-wave's pc actually is a quantum computer. That doesn't keep them from attracting investors for millions and millions of cold hard ca$h.
Normal computers use binary bits. Basically - on-off or 0-1 states. Combinations of 0's and 1's make up numbers(data) and instructions. Quantum computers aren't just 0-1 state bits - they use virtually infinite states(ie: 0.3f,-0.2f,0.9f). So the processing works in a completely different way and much much much much faster.
i searched "quantum" and i had to sift through five pages of hippie pseudo-science before i found this. the scientific community needs to address that stuff. it's getting to be as bad as intelligent design.
I dare anyone to find a summary on quantum computers that a lay person could grasp. There is a real need for ligitimate news for the interested public that could bridge the gap between the basic and advanced explainations.
PS: It took me a few moments before I realized I was watching a segment of "What The Bleep Do We Know", then hives broke out and I was hospitalized immediately. So-ooo tired of that shiate.
I know I'm cherrypicking here, but here's an example of what the difference speaking human makes. Which will get onto Oprah first?
"An algorithm for a quantum computer must initialize this [8-dimensional complex vector] in some specified form" (A phrase taken from the beloved wiki page.)
Wow, this would allow full scale radiosity at maybe even a few hundred FPS

But will the Quantum Computerts faster than the normal computers that we have in 20 years?
angel2901 4 years ago
Oh yeah. No matter how fast a normal computer gets - it'll still be limited to crunching enourmous combinations of 0's and 1's.

I could need a book to explain it all...so...I'll say only this:
YES..right now..they're just faster

hellcat059 4 years ago
I suppose, but then this really isn't a lay persons topic in the first place.
I mean, most homes these days have a PC, but I'd put that a fraction of the people who own them have any idea what a Byte even is.
All people is to know is that it's got "Quantum" in the name, they'll therefore assume it's incredible. Such is the nature of the average person.
