I heard this song drifting across the camp site at the Garma festival last year,.It was more than poiniant, the ''language'parts of the song were especially powerful ánd moving ,even though the exact meaning escapes me . The other day i was in a park in Darwin with my little girl and my seven year old boy an aboriginal guy was there with his beautiful little girl and boy .I said ",It's hot ,he said 'yes and the winds dropped?! I just wanted to wish him and his family and his people the very best.
Good song. I'm British, and we aren't taught that much about Australian History or anti-semetism towards the Aboriginals. But I did go out there to Australia about 5 years ago, and I really loved it. This song has certainly made me think more about how much the Aboriginals went through. Good people, terrible times :(
Mandawuy wrote this song in hope for positive change & respect for Aboriginal people.2009 & still no positive change or respect for Aboriginal people.Mandawuy won the Australian of the year in 1992 & was applauded for his contributions to music & work with Aboriginal people. But still no treaty with his people.Australia is a broken & twisted nation that is sick & needs treatment.I would gaurantee he would give back that award in a heart beat for a national treaty with Aboriginal people.
"This land was never given up.This land was never bought & sold. The planting of the union jack never changed our law at all." "Promises can dissapear just like writing in the sand" "back in 1988 all those talking politicians".Very true words. It's now 2009 & still no treaty with Aboriginal people.Lying white europeans are over here lying, ripping off & disrespecting the Aboriginal people of this land. The australian nation is a living hell for most Aboriginal people. The love for their land remains
I spent a solid year trying to get my hands on this song back in 1991-92. It was so annoying how in North America no one would special order this from Oz. I got so many quizzical looks. Only after a UK label picked it up did they order a copy of the 12" and later, the CD single when it was picked up in Canada and the U.S.
