I like throwing large poppers that walk the dog, similar to a Chug Bug. I miss alot of fish and thats part of the game. Just have to remember when the fish hits, drop your rod and wait a second before setting the hook. If you do so, you have better hook-ups. also if they miss it, and you pause you don't accidentally pull it out of the strike zone. It took me a while to get that down, but you still can't catch EVERY fish. Good Fishing!

Dude you might want to get some bigger/sharper hooks for that, or even downsize on a lure if that will help. I know in some situations you have to change colour, size, speed, depth. It all counts on somedays to just keep them hooked. Gl

The strikes are nice, but so is the fight! Learn to set the hook. With topwater lures, what works best for me, is to keep the rod tip high, when the fish hits, lower my rod tip, reel up the slack, then set the hook. Or lower your rod tip and wait for the fish to take up all of the slack.

Nice!I love pike and bass on top water. I'm 15 and have only managed to land 1 bass and 1 pike on top water using a bull frog pattern Zherraspook! And its funny because the water temperature was about 45-50 degrees Fahrenheit and the pike were just demolishing it. Jumping atleast 2-3 feet out of the water and diving down the the lure. and Since it was only a 22 inch pike, maybe 3-5 lbs at most, a 15 lb pike on top would be amazing. Since my record is a 20 lb pike subsurface.

My friend caught about a 30 lb carp with a crankbait right around dark when we were out fishing one evening. I never thought a carp would bite a crankbait but i guess if they think its a crawdad or minnow i dont see why they wouldnt strike it?

I used a popper on sunday and it didnt get that response! I did try a fladen lure called shark jerk 15cm and 60 grams. Its a beast! but on my 2nd cast it got hit like an express train by a 7lb not bad considdering rapala, storm and fox did nothing all day

Same thing happened to me as perrybro. i was fishing at a resort on their lake in gladwin michigan and we were fishing off the dock. and i was about to pull my line up for another cast, it was to where i could actually see my bait, then i looked to my right to see if my dad caught anything, and a pretty big lookin pike hit my topwater bait, and snapped my line.

Hey just hook a rubber worm with a wedless hook with no wait and you can have the same effect. i catch some big bass using topwater lures.
