I hadn't heard the Giulio Cesare before, but I've loved his "O thou that tellest" for ages (on an old tape!). I heard a long time ago that Deller's Messiah recording came out at the same time as Kathleen Ferrier's, thus Deller's version did not receive the attention it warranted at the time. ?
