I feel that atheists may be closer to god than believers in god. My evidence is that believers in god are guided and directed mostly and life therefore is joyful and peaceful, whereas some atheists are self driven and work very hard at making their life peaceful. I do not want to disrespect or convince anybody otherwise of their beliefs or lifestyle. This is an observation I've made and am sharing it.

Selecting scriptures and trying to give correct interpretation is like trying to cook from a complex recipe and knowing only half of the ingredients. Correct interpretation takes years of in depth study of the Word. We are blind to the things of God before we are saved. I can tell you from experience.

@fourcams Do you know how we atheists feel? We are surrounded in a world of people that have very different beliefs and we think that these opinios are based on.. well you know the arguments. We think strongly that we are right and that we have good reasons for our world view. Just imagine being an Anti-Nazi in the 3rd Reich. I asked an atheist once what happened to him, and he shook as he told me about being molested by a Catholic priest. I will say one thing about religious people: it is WORSE when they do wrong because they do it representing God. This guy may never believe again, and I don't blame him.

Probably the worst adaptation of a wonderful book that I have ever seen. Even Richard Matheson was disappointed with what they did to his story. If you want to really know Chris and Ann's story of love, read the book. That's where their story is.

Free will, He gave us the chance to live in our own world, where we have to choose to come closer to him, to be happy or sad on our own. If we were all just in Heaven, we would learn nothing, wouldn't grow. Only by experiencing this now can we appreciate what comes after.
God created this earth as paradise. And God commanded us to worship Him and follow His perfect commands. But man rebeled against God and disobeyed His command, and the penalty was death physically and spiritually. We became sinners by birth and practise. Since we, now, were powerless to make ourselves right w/Him, God sent His Son to pay that penalty of death for us. God calls us now to repent of our sins N follow Him again. Its by Grace through faith-no works.
With true faith, comes works. That's what the Catholic church teaches. Works without faith are wrong. Faith without works...is impossible. Your life mirrors Christ's (works) when you have true faith.
Actually, what the catholic church teaches is, in order to be saved, one must do a bunch of works to earn their way to heaven. Thats not biblical at all. Im not sure if you are talking about salvation, but one becomes 'saved' when they realize that they are a sinner. Theres nothing whatsoever one can do to earn their way to heaven. Jesus said one must repent and follow Him (by faith). Once we have truly repented n been forgiven, we do 'good works' out of our love and graditude to God.
I'm a Catholic theologian. I know what I'm talking about. We are not saved until we die. If we have faith and lead a life of sin, you are not SAVED. Jesus Chris was and is our REDEEMER. If we follow Him throughout our lives, we get Heaven. If we just say, "Yeah Jesus is my savior." and then live a life if murder and sloth...we are not SAVED. Jesus REDEEMED US. That is biblical. And the bible is not the only pillar of truth. Christ is.
I agree, if we say we hav faith n still habitually sin, we r probably not saved. Yes, Jesus is the Redeemer. However, u said a few things that r not backed up by the Bible: "not saved UNTIL we die"? "IF we FOLLOW Him, we get to heaven"? A person is garanteed salvation when they repent first of breaking God's commands, then, by faith, follows Him. Also, one cannot live a sinless life, even a true believer, because we are sinful by nature. Thats why we trust solely on God's grace n strength daily.
Very true. I worded it wrong. The Catholic church teaches that if you have true faith you will truly have the works in following Christ. I think we both agree. You can't earn Heaven. We both agree there too. Thing is, we also teach that to say you are absolutely granted Heaven because of your judgement of yourself, is prideful. Only God admits and judges us into Heaven. But of course, if our hearts truly seek God through Christ, we will be granted eternal salvation. Absolutely:-)
Oh and also, can we not lose our salvation if we go and kill people or sin terribly? We can. That's why it isn't truly said and done until death. We can't speak on our salvation for God. I hope these 2 posts clear up one of many rumors of the Catholic church.

Not really. Catholics believe that even if you're not a christian you can be saved as long as you pursue goodness and truth with your heart, no matter your race, sex or religion.

Unfortunately, you are misguided. First, it doesnt matter what a particular group of christianity believes, catholic or otherwise. All truth is weight against the Bible. There is only one way to God, and that is through His Son, Jesus, who died for man's sins and rose from the grave, showing that death, and hell has no more power. Only by repentance and following Jesus will one be with God in Heaven. There is a God. Only the fool says in his heart,"there is no god".

On that note, you also ought to look at what constitutes scientific evidence. Scientific evidence doesn't work on absolutes, but on degrees of probability. Zammit's conclusions show it is HIGHLY PROBABLE that consciousness exists apart from the body. Testing for the effectiveness of drugs works similarly.

God created this earth as paradise. And God commanded us to worship Him and follow His perfect commands. But man rebeled against God and disobeyed His command, and the penalty was death physically and spiritually. We became sinners by birth and practise. Since we, now, were powerless to make ourselves right w/Him, God sent His Son to pay that penalty of death for us. God calls us now to repent of our sins N follow Him again. Actually, what the catholic church teaches is, in order to be saved, one must do a bunch of works to earn their way to heaven. Thats not biblical at all. Im not sure if you are talking about salvation, but one becomes 'saved' when they realize that they are a sinner. Theres nothing whatsoever one can do to earn their way to heaven. Jesus said one must repent and follow Him (by faith). Once we have truly repented n been forgiven, we do 'good works' out of our love and graditude to God.

I'm a Catholic theologian. I know what I'm talking about. We are not saved until we die. If we have faith and lead a life of sin, you are not SAVED. Jesus Chris was and is our REDEEMER. If we follow Him throughout our lives, we get Heaven. If we just say, "Yeah Jesus is my savior." and then live a life if murder and sloth...we are not SAVED. Jesus REDEEMED US. That is biblical. And the bible is not the only pillar of truth. Christ is.

I agree, if we say we hav faith n still habitually sin, we r probably not saved. Yes, Jesus is the Redeemer. However, u said a few things that r not backed up by the Bible: "not saved UNTIL we die"? "IF we FOLLOW Him, we get to heaven"? A person is garanteed salvation when they repent first of breaking God's commands, then, by faith, follows Him. Also, one cannot live a sinless life, even a true believer, because we are sinful by nature. Thats why we trust solely on God's grace n strength daily.

Very true. I worded it wrong. The Catholic church teaches that if you have true faith you will truly have the works in following Christ. I think we both agree. You can't earn Heaven. We both agree there too. Thing is, we also teach that to say you are absolutely granted Heaven because of your judgement of yourself, is prideful. Only God admits and judges us into Heaven. But of course, if our hearts truly seek God through Christ, we will be granted eternal salvation. Absolutely:-)

Only by God's mercy and grace in allowing Jesus to pay the penalty(death) for my sins, am I made righteous in Him.
