this is the best version of this song because it is NOT alan price. that is the voice of eric burdon, mr. price's band mate in "the animals". a true soul singer. not on his best day could alan price sing like that. don't know why it is not properly credited. bar bet? a debt collected? dunno. but it is, for me, the most powerful performance of a great song.
@ignace7N - CCR didn't do the original. Their version wasn't released until two years after this one, It was originally by Screamin' Jay Hawkins in the fifties, but Nina Simone's version was the one that made it famous. Also, check out Arthur Brown's psychedelic version.
Price did all arrangements for Animals. this one nicked - he was a superb nicker - from Nina Simone. Few of us had heard the original when Animals released it. But then, few of us in UK had any idea that House of the Rising Sun was on Dylan first album; few heard of Dylan when Animals released their version, which was version which made song classic.
why did alan price get out of the animals band his voice was awesome, eric is definitely the lead but his contribution was as awesome. sounds like a jealousy thing to me.
Phucked !, There is nothing on this Earth that Majors this amount of Soul, Al`s voice & his singular mastery of the Moog keys places him where no-one can ever compete, the ultimate `One Man Band` + Some...F
this took me back to a time when... i was 17, living south of san francisco... the world was turning and this song was one that pierced my mind, heart and soul. as far as im concerned... the very best version. thanks '74

Love the video especially the Bush radio and that picture of the car park at the concert, is it?
A few other great pictures there too to capture the spirit of the decade!

super arrangements, nice melody, and he like the voice of Alan PRICE, and it was a big "plant" for dance with a girl

J'ai connu cette chanson en 1966 et je l'ai tout de suite adoptée car, pour draguer c'était super là-dessus

As Alan said...in "Don't Look Back"('65 Dylan Docu)...."It's just one of those things".
In the music business people come and people go....no big deal.
Over the years Burdon worked with a thousand different musicians.
Apart from this great performance ,Price had weird taste, and released light pop.like "Hi Lilly, Hi Lo"
