This guy is putting his neck on the line for the American people... this is so unusual. Most Senators are more concerned about reelection, only. I wish this guy was from California. He'd get my vote!
Polls consistently show a majority favor a public option. Colorado, Bennet's state, has been trending Democratic in the last few elections. Voting with the Democrats in support of getting healthcare for more people in accordance with the electorate's wishes is going to hurt his re-election chances?
The Republicans are in danger of losing 8 Senate Seats in 2010
The Democrats are in danger of losing 4, one of those being Colorado.
But I believe this Senator will win as Barack carried the state easily & most people there, according to polls, want health care reform.
Please don't pay attention to the Rasmussen Polls as Fox is now paying for the Rasmussen Polls - in effect making them a Division of Fox & the Fox/Rasmussen Polls are now unreliable.
wait a min, wait a min....did I just hear that Sen say that with "obamacare" they will be able to "take the politics out of it", meaning no lobbyists for healthcare? WOW what complete bullshit lies!
Tell me smart democrats, what private co runs the US Military? NONE right? OK, arent there lobbyist that work in national defense selling missle defense, guns, ammo, trucks, etc, etc? TONS right? Well if the military has them, why the fuck wouldn't the healthcare system?
Haliburton, KBR, Raytheon, Lockheed, etc. The list of private companies that have an immense amount of say over what the military does is a long one. We contract out an immense part of our military services too. Still, they are far less powerful than if we were to simply leave the entire defense industry up to them. The same applies here, competition in the form of a government health care option means less overall power in the hands of corporations.
dumbass, that's EXACTLY my fucking point. Those companies DO NOT run the fucking military, get your facts straight
Do they have alot of lobbyists that inject their "ideals" into the system about what they'd like, OF COURSE! THATS THE POINT DUMBASS....it happens with the US Mil, now what the fuck do you think is going to happen to the healthcare system? not a single Big Pharm, Big Ins co is going to pay off politicians and get what THEY want out of it?
"Those companies DO NOT run the fucking military, get your facts straight"
You honestly think that the defense industries don't have say in what the military does? The entire thing with the B2 bomber, splitting it up so it is produced in different states to ensure it will never get killed, is just one example of a way the industry controls what the military gets. Once it is on board a defense contractor has quite a bit of control. Not as much as the health care industry, but still some.
"not a single Big Pharm, Big Ins co is going to pay off politicians and get what THEY want out of it?"
No one said it would be the complete and final end of health care lobbying, that is a strawman that you created. However, stronger government regulation and presence in the industry will decrease corporate power overall as their bloated profit margins, and thus their ability to lobby, diminish through competition with the public option.
So you're saying that Hailiburton, Lockheed Martin, etc profits have DECLINED since they started selling to the US Mil? Sure sure.
You are clueless and damn near not worth trying to explain the fact that the US Gvmt, or any other has NEVER saved ANY money for people, they only SPEND it. But you cant even understand that simple fact, you still think they actually "care" about you and not your money or power over you, LOL! your ignorance is quite sad
The health care lobby will be less powerful and thus the issue will move away from petty politics, but no one said it was going to go away entirely. You seem to think politics is binary, that there is lobbying or there isn't, but that's not actually the case. There are degrees to everything in politics.
And you seem to think that the Gvmt is really going to SAVE money, LMFAO!
Sure, coming from BO who just spent 3.5 Trillion in his 1st year (more so than ANY other Pres, including Bush), and his awesome "cash for clunkers" program that saw us spending over $25k for EACH car that we only gave the ppl a $4k credit for (now THATS gvmt saving! ZING!), I can rest assure you that health will not be "better" nor "cheaper", sorry. But dont worry, you'll get it anyways bc the US is fucked
"And you seem to think that the Gvmt is really going to SAVE money, LMFAO!"
Congressional budget office, which so far is the best estimate, says that yes, the public option will reduce the deficit. So far their estimates have proven to be accurate and all evidence points to this one being no different.
"But dont worry, you'll get it anyways bc the US is fucked"
Again with the assumptions. I'm not going to be using the public option. "Public option is mandatory!" or other such dross in 3, 2...
This gentleman makes the assertion that what they are trying to jam down our throats will "take the politics out of the healthcare system". That is a laughable statement. This will politicize 16% of the U.S. economy. That is the whole point of why this is being pursued. A multitude of articles and studies tell us that this proposed measure will push up costs and further increase the nations deficit. Spending money you don't have is madness.
Yes, who gives a damn about representing his constituents... (as clearly, if he gets voted out, a majority didn't want him do do what he did).
The job isn't about who he represents, its all about him. Somehow I suspect that won't be endearing when he faces the ballot for the first time.
Yes, he was appointed so has never faced a ballot or his constituency for his seat.. which may be why he's so willing to lose it; he didn't have to work to get it.
>The job isn't about who he represents, its all about him.
No, it's about doing what is in the best interests of the American people, rather than the best interests of the insurance and pharmaceutical companies
Guess what, when he is voted out, let's the electorate give him a nasty send off by having him and his family be the unwilling participants of Obama care as long as his family line exist even when Obama care is repealed by the future Congress. If he believes that this bill would help his constituents and he is willing to lose his senatorial seat, why not have him and family experience the whole package without giving them any chance to opt out when he's elected out.
I'm sick of economic illiterates talking about "bending the cost curve." There is no magic the government can do to make the cost less! It can set price controls and ration...period.
Lastly, "political suicide" essentially means he doesn't care what his constituents think.
>There is no magic the government can do to make the cost less!
It's called negotiating, genius. When the public plan represents a significant market share they can negotiate to get better rates. That's why large corporations already have relatively affordable healthcare for their employees while small businesses are SOL.
You have no understanding of the historical structure of our Congress. This is exactly the type of behavior our Founding Fathers had in mind when writing the Constitution.
Ummmm... your supposed to "Represent" the people of your state.... thats where the name "Representative in congress" comes from. If the people of your state want you to vote no then your supposed to vote no... Idiot.

That is why they have 6 year terms. They are supposed to be above politics and do what is right for the country regardless of the will of the people.
This man is a Senator. His responsibility is to do what is right, NOT represent the people.
American people overwhelmingly think that marriage is between a man and a woman. Oh wait, the majority opinion only matters if it supports liberal causes.

They don't care about the economy, economists predicts around 3.5 million job losses if Obamacare passes.
Insurance companies cannot compete with the Gov't and will close their doors for good.
Small businesses cannot afford these extra taxes and fees and will shut down their business.
People who don't want it will be fined and put to jail.
