Jimmy's mouth sounds like his guitar playing. Sloppy, uneducated, and pathetic. He's just another wind bag that got big under the umbrella of musicians that Big Mon spit out. He would be laughed at if he tried to make a go at these days. I have no respect for him after watching this clip.
Jimmy Martin says Fuck You. Jimmy could make a go anytime he pleased, sure he was cocky and told it like it was. But how dare you talk bad about him while he is trying to rest in peace.
@mandotoot True, rather rude of me to talk of him while he is no longer on this earth. That was my bad. But this was a disgrace, dropping the F bomb everywhere and GD this, GD that. I'm just sayin'.....
@Mar10Guitar Find any other guitar player that drives the whole band and pushes them where he wants them to go.Jimmy did just as much for big mons sound as lester and earl.Hot pickers come a dime a dozen. But Jimmy had something that you cant learn from no book son ,its called heart and soul and being able to sing.Something that the so called bluegrass of today is lacking big time.
He was the real deal all of these guys running there mouth aint nothin but wannabees.RIP KING OF BLUEGRASS
@jpence80 my daddy loved jimmy and cussed like jimmy too. i am a woman--and i can cuss with the best of them. and if anyone thinks it is not feminine--they can kiss my ass and go to hell! jimmy is gone but not forgotten.
hi jimmy i love u dearly and all your songs i remember as a teenage girl growing up i have listen to all your songs the man that help me was name pete hughes you know him and you should know me my real name is patty estepp the frist time i saw you was at petes bar in columbus ohio the bluegrass palace i love your video you are out spoken really like it keep doing what you do best pick and sing love you jimmy
@meanlezbo you are so funny--for some reason i keep seeing your name on alot of bluegrass sites. how many 80 year old people do you know that like lezbos? i think he would have liked you because you are funny and not politically correct--give the old guy a break.
I met Jimmy at a festival in 1996! He was a riot. We sat around a camper after the show and got drunk! My only brush with fame,I used to coon hunt so we talked hounds and I got an invite to go hunt with him. He rattled off his phone number and said, you come to Nashville goddammit,I'm in the book!
A long journey from the hills of Sneedville to working at Lowland and gettin his first radio show there in Morristown. Bill Monroe and on to the Grand ole Opry. Bill and Jimmy carried the bass on top of the car when they traveled. When they were on the Opry they would have to walk about a mile down lower broad. There were so many people' coulden't find a parkin place. Jimmy said he almost had to whip several peoples a** who wonted to comment on his hat on that long walk. He told me everthing.
Thanks for posting that. Jimmy Martin is so country that he is a little too much for some folks, but he is the real country. I wish they would play this film on all those network country shows and give those young "stars" a lesson in guts and persistence (because they are going to need it).
I met Jimmy Martin at the IBMA in 1995 when they put him in the Hall of Fame...Drank some of that RED SEVEN and got to hear some great stories...Then he proceeded to cuss out everybody jamming with him or their "TIMING AND TONE"..He was something else...
SkitRichards: Watching this documentary brings back memories as a kid in Toronto. I used to listen to Jimmy Martin on WWVA in Wheeling West Va. on the Jamboree on Saturday nights in my bedroom. He was the heart and soul of bluegrass. Along with the Osborne Bros., Jim & Jesse, Hylo Brown, Mac Wiseman. Wilma Lee & Stoney Cooper. On WRVA in Richmond Va., Don Reno & Red Smiley on The Old Dominion Barn Dance. The first time I heard the Stanley Bros. was on WCKY in Cincinnati.
it sure is the way it is.tell it like it is and to hell with the wooses. i like to live that a way and dont try an stop me mister or we got a problem you heer me boy?
