I am a black woman. However, I was happy for the white team. It's always good when someone different wins something, that most people didn't think they had a chance in hell.

The captain for the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority said that the AKA's began doing "step shows "on their campus 16 years ago and  that is when they (Zeta Tau Alpha) began stepping too. No, what she conveniently left out is that they began "copying" the AKA step show. They just began to study and mimic the moves then take it to that next level to secure a win. When the CNN Correspondent initially asked her the question, she paused as though she did not know how to respond. I just don't buy it.

Hating is for suckers... Those girls won fair and square. "why can't we have anything to ourselves" well we as blacks weren't born with blonde hair blue eyes yet we get the blue contacts and blonde highlights. Some of us go around calling ourselves barbies and what not but when the tables turn everyone wanna get mad. The AKAs should've taken the 2nd place and kept it moving. ZTA did a great job. If you mad about it oh well. You don't win step shows cuz of your black Greek organization. You win

I mean it wouldn't be so bad if white frats and soror's would include black members into their organization. At my school and the schools around me, every tradtionally white frat and soror are still white, they don't even bother with rushing African Americans, or any other race. Once chapter went so far as to cut ties with the school. but that's besides the point, those white girls looked like they were auditioning for a damn high school dance team

For you saying that you doubt an all black ballet team would get far into competition proves my previous point. i thought that the ZTA's did a very good job and deserved to win if that was the judges initial ruling. P.s. and i am a member of AKA spring 94'. I may be wrong but wasn't the judges "black", no way should they have awarded them co winners. The AKA's should have accepted 2nd prize with their heads high and with dignity.

What the fuck is cultural theft? This America, the "melting pot"! The group who performed the best should've won. There shouldn't have been a 'recount'. On another note, I'm not against rewarding the winner. I don't mind latino's doing it but white folks? No. Why? Black folks can't have anything without the 'culture vultures' coming in to 'claim and rename'. So it is with music, language, style, appearance, countries (nubia, egypt)...and the whole damn continent of Africa? It is with stepping (and strutting, soon enough. Stay tuned). Business as usual...

We always talk about moving on when it suits us but, then we take a step back when we choose not to accept progression. If ZTAs and AKAs can step side by side for 16 yrs. at one of (if not) the least most diverse U of A campuses in Arkansas (athletes make up the majority of our black students) then let the ladies have there time in the spotlight. Culture should be inclusive not exclusive.
