  • Right on time. Thank you God.

  • I preach at a church of christ in Madison, AL. My biggest problem is that members say that hand clapping and standing up is wrong, but members will go to another church function to visit that they KNOW does the same thing. in the words of my mentor, if 2 plus 2 is 4 in one place, it must be 4 everywhere else! I say clap and say amen and shout to the Lord!!!

  • Clapping ?

  • i know clapping is not apart of worship and that is not mentioned by God at all. The question is why does a church forbid one thing that's not mentioned in the bible (musical instruments) and yet allow another thing that's not mentioned in the bible either (clapping, lifting hands, and whistling).

KillaKramel11, i think Mountain View C.O.C. is making a fool out of themselves for doing this dont you? We both agree that Clapping and whistling in church is wrong.

  • No more so than saying "AMEN" - just that one is voiced with the MOUTH, then other is done with the arms - both are expressions of approval. I personally am against clapping, etc., but do realize that there ARE cultural differences. A mechanical instrument used during worship is not even a parallel comparision. I have a hard time, admittedly, with hand raising, clapping, etc., but would be extremely cautious and slow to condemn those who do so - I won't case the first stone.

  • ive been to this church many times i go to cedar valley church of christ under bro.ben foster and james smith asst. min. is ny dad.

  • actually it's Cherry Valley Church of christ, not cedar where Br. Ben Foster preaches.

  • i thought church of christ were against clapping and lifting hands. or is it just african culture?

  • NO we are not against clapping and lifting hands. However some people do have their own personal prefences. No it is not just african americans.

  • question totally off subject ... why the term african american? why not black ? i mean im white i consider myself an american not a european american ... just an honest friendly question

  • I think because your european history has not tried to be hidden/taken from you that the need to reclaim that by using the term european american has no meaning. I get what you are saying but if you could go back in your family history and the only thing you found was slavery and the price you were worth next to the name they gave you, im sure you would want to claim something else other than your early records as an american. I love america totally but my history started in Mother Africa. peace

  • I'm into genealogy and true i would be upset had i found that most of my ancestors were slaves... i have seen the dollar amounts next to names and sometimes just dashes ... in all truth i would probably hate my country and feel as though im not a part of it ... With this being said the term african america only perpetuates the divison between black and white in america... drawing lines in the sand for a new generation to see... all be it a much friendlier line than drawn in the past....

  • I would agree if that same hate did not still live today. we are not that far removed from the america that put into law a system of oppression based on color. I think when my daughter asks why african american and not just black. I can first tell of the queens, kings and teachers that fills her past and then explain the struggle and need to be better than just how we started as americans. I dont see it as a line, more of an asterisk*

  • Like the native american should always mention that we were here when the land was "discovered" by the term native. And even then, after "native" you give credit to america, a person that just happen to come here. So in all that, the melting pot we are in has to stew for a bit longer. But with any race or background you get a better understanding of who you are when you know where you came from.

  • right right i like the idea of manifest destiny :) as far as native americans are concerned haha

  • Point taken about the asterisk ... As white person being born in the 80's and alien to the majority of racism experienced by older americans i just have a problem with the term "african american" ... it feels as though the person using the term isnt melting into the melting pot ... but i understand that on that issue we must agree to disagree ... what are ur views on affirmative action ?

  • I dont think its needed now. green is the only color most people see. Whoever can make my company the most money gets the job. & I know its not true for all jobs and schools there are so many other fish in the sea I dont think it needs to be a law. I was born in 78 so the bad racist stuff my parents had to endure was over for the most part. I grew up in LA so the "man" decided to have us kill each other over drugs & pseudo power than to have crooked cops lynching people on the 6:00 news....

  • keep in mind that it was the law that changed civil rights not the majority of the people that had a change of heart. the u.s. would never be considered a world power and liberator of the oppressed if its own people lived under jim crow laws. look back at most of the changes that took place that resulted in a bit of equality. it was never "just the right thing to do" it was tech advancement or political. only 233 years as a country we still have much to learn & pride holds us back

  • @KentuckyLane1984 That would be nice not to use any terms of race. But, there is still a problem in USA; no one ever has a problem with the term, "Italian, Jewish, Irish etc AM." There always seems to be a prob only w/African Am.

  • YES ... some of us are

  • we are and some of us arent

  • Wonderful!
