I was there in the Corps of Cadets and started cheering when Leshinski made the catch. I thought there was no way he wasn't getting in. Great play by Covington, though.
BTW, Army went for the win because they needed a win to still have an opportunity to be bowl eligible. They crushed Boston College 49-7 the following week.
It should've been a score---Leshinski should've gone into the end zone before he cut to the sideline, then it would've only been a matter of him catching the ball.
Oh, and my other favorite follow-up (I remember reading this in SI): a couple of weeks later, ND beat the living hell out of USC. After that game, Holtz was asked how that happened after such a close game with us. Holtz said "Easy. Army's got a better football team."
whatever reason, at that point we just started punching them in the mouth, winning the line of scrimmage on just about every single play, both ways. For the last 25 minutes of the game, not too many of them could have played for us. All credit to Ivory Covington, and all credit to ND... for the first 2 1/2 quarters. Yes I'm still bitter :) .
That's understandable. I remember watching this game, and not believing my eyes as Army came back. Ivory Covington will always be remembered in my mind for that tackle.
Do you remember the '98 game as well? You guys nearly stole that game from us, too.

A starting Plebe, let alone being counted on to carry out one of the greatest upsets, says something about his ability. Yes, world-class tackle by Covington, especially since he was outweighed 245-180. I think the line was 41.5. Holtz called us "The University of the Army" at a pre-game presser &

Hindsight is 20/20, but Sutton should have just kicked the extra point. There's no shame in tying Notre Dame (ties were still counted in 1995).

@NyBob85 Actually, going for the win is the right decision. Who the fuck cares about a tie? You want to beat Notre Dame, not tie them.
