  • you make it look so easy, but yet looks so difficult, your great !! do you prefer the ric to the fenders?>

  • Amazing bass! I love Rickenbackers!

Also, nice video too! You kick ass!

  • i wish i had a bass like that >> stuck with my damn epiphone -.-

  • Your hand is scary

  • Could you do it with a pick?

  • which one out of all your basses do you like playing the most ?

  • nice rickenbacker, got one of those myself

  • Rick is the best bass guitar in the world.

  • the Rick get a nice slap sound.

  • how are you able to keep steady 16ths with your thumb?

  • ooohooohoooo... sexy rickenbacker.

I've had the priveledge of playing one of those once when I recorded my [awful] record years ago. The song I recorded it with unfortunately didn't have any slap bass but it's not like you're gonna NOT use a rickenbacker in your record haha.

  • i ve got a ibanez copy of this bass, i got it from my father, he had it from his 17th and i am going to play his now. it doesnt sound to great but that is because i havent put on some new strings, his are now already 30 years old, so it isnt so weird that it doesnt sound like this real rick.

  • Beautiful! your

thumb playing reminds me of the VictorWooten technique ;o) nice player

  • nice ric.

  • I want ur bass sooooooooo bad lol. ive got an epiphone thunderbird IV gothic edition which is fucking awesome but a rickenbacker would be the sickest bass ever..... also mad props on ur bass playing.

  • Makes me think of Howard Moon.

  • I love your slide lead in :)

  • Very helpful, thanks.

  • Awesome!

  • I never could slap that good, I mean I can do it, but not like you.

  • i have no idea how i would ever get my double thumbing so dead on and articulate like this.

  • coooooooooooooooool !! ...this is an insane groove ! gotta have to learn that thumb stuff, have you ever ripped your thum nail off or are you just polishing the edge so hard that you can't even open our swiss army knife anymore ? ;o)

  • this is good ive been playin bass for a lil now and cant wait to learn slap and stuff looks way fun question: are you a professional or just for fun dude

  • professional. check his profile. hes in a band. they have a cd.

  • Thank you, bro.

    This is incredible. So helpful!

  • aie aie aie double thumb to work thx a lot for this good groove

  • Man seriously, you RULE the bass!!.... excellent sound!

    Long Live MarloweDK hahaha.

  • Marlowe, thank you once again. It's because of you and discovering what is available for learning tools such as this, I'm going to pick up playing bass again after a 20 year + absence. Thank you for all you do for all of us!!! I have a request Marlowe. Can you do a play along to the Yes song Roundabout?

  • Nice bass

  • what is a lick ?

  • A musical phrase. It's like a sentence, if you use the analogy that compares music to language.

  • how much did that bass cost? isnt it around 2,000

  • I got the video podcast off itunes for the playbassnow videos, theyre all amazing

  • how you do that?

  • you go on to itunes, search PlayBassNow,and subscribe to the podcast

  • Another AMAZING video! Keep 'em coming!

One question, though: Do you have to change your technique to be able to do the same thing on a five string bass because of the narrow string spacing?

  • Man, I have the double thumbing motion feeling fairly comfortable by now, but I just cant seem to play anything at faster tempos without getting a ton of fret popping noise. Another great vid Marlowe, keep the inspiration coming.

  • wow that is some great tone.

  • i want a rick

  • same here keverman, i havent seen his rickenbecker yet

  • Are we in a competition?

  • Most good musicians don't think they are "better" than any other. After you reach a certain level of proficiency on your instrument it stops being about who is better. It becomes about expressing yourself through your instrument. Music is not a competition.

  • @FSPB123 I think hes better

  • this is y i subscribed 2 u lol

  • Hey Marlow! Great to see more stuff from you...maybe you could post the key or chords you are playing?

  • I am not trying to funny or nasty here but If you cant here the key from what he is playing then I think you need to start with something a bit more basic.

  • ahhhhhhh rickenbackeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer *__*

  • great vid and playing as always, what kind of strings do you use?

  • DR High beams, standard gauge - check his profile :)

  • Schwweeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!

  • Nice!

  • I'm still working on the double thumbing technique. Can't seem to quite get it. Any suggestions?

  • Go though the string.

    Quite low action is helpfull.

Have the whole tumb about the same angle as the strings. (helps for me)

    Use your whole wrist. (spelling?)

    Your thumb is a plektrum.

  • Visit his site, click the lessons tab & watch his doublethumping one :)

The sound & video quality is also better on his site :)
