  • HE MAKES THAT VINTAGE SUPRO FRIGGIN TALK

  • I am searching for this guitar, but I can't find it nowhere. :( Similar is Harmony H44, but I don't like it.

  • If you would read, the guitar is an old Supro! and that's my nephew Derek from about 5yrs ago!

  • If you would read, the guitar is an old Supro!

  • The guitar is what looks like an harmony h44 stratotone. Eastwood guitars makes a cool reissue.

  • 2:08 Kills me every time

  • Anyone knows which guitar is this? It looks like 3/4 guitar.

    Thanks for help!

  • Any idea what guitar hes playing?

  • The amp looks like an Electromuse amplifier

  • no he usally plays in open e, and if u love his slide work here he also is in the allman brothers and he is something else the man is crazy i seen him do some crazy shit

  • Does he usually play in standard tuning? I have just started listening to this dude and I love his slide work

  • A lot of sliders play in Open E because it mimics the human voice. Derek is in Open E almost all the time.

  • @Pandolin11 Not quite. Slide players use open tunings because it allows them to play chords with the slide, which they can't do in standard tuning.

  • i think in this case its open g i might be wrong tho

  • InvaderCC thanks man. im glad you agree with me. but anyways if people want to give full credit to who ever really wrote all of the blues everyones owe's willy dixon a pat on the back and the thousands of southern slaves who started these words.

  • Holy shit, this singer sounds like Howlin Wolf! That's a feat!

  • Dylon378 It is great to see a young man truly understand what blues players do..You don't compare blues players buy what they write but how they play..And the true fact of the matter is there is not one note that has not already been played countless of times on the guitar it's how you string those notes together is what matters..And to write a negative comment about Derek Trucks is absurd .

  • guys! come on! if you want to play the whole who stole it from who game (which you cant play when it comes to the blues) this "riff" started at howlin wolfs meet me at the bottom, then dylan did a little something like this on rollin and tumblin in modern times, and then! derek trucks covered howlin wolf. music is passed on and covered not stolen. im 13 ansd i know this. do a little studying boys.

  • @Dylon378 sounds to me like you know your stuff boy, i'm diggin what i hear!

  • @Dylon378 hate to tell you, but you're wrong, the riff is from the song "rollin' tumblin' blues", which is "considered as traditional", howlin' wolf recorded a version of it called "down in the bottom" which had the same vocal melody, but with different lyrics, he excluded the famous riff, instead just used the second riff from the song which is normally played whilst the singer is singing...

  • @MrThedalaillamaknows ....Eric Clapton has done it as Rollin' & Tumblin' and The Grateful Dead have done it as Down at the Bottom....Half of Zeppelin's tunes are hybrids of two songs meshed together...

  • @AvirtualSwitzerland They're the same song, different words, and saying that half of zeppelin's songs are combination of the same song, is not only incredibly unfair, but also just wrong.

  • @Dylon378 lol what an incomplete lineage

  • @Dylon378 The overall song is similar to Travelin Riverside Blues by Robert Johnson (late 1930's), which is similar to a numbe of earlier songs.

  • sounds a little like "shake it for me" by howlin wolf. Anybody else agree. I'll see derek in 2 days in austin...cant wait.

  • Nice guitar! :D

  • Nice one pullin' the Rollin' and Tumblin' riff... lol.

  • love that authentic tone !

  • Great stuff. And Derek must have really been feeling it because I think I saw him smile... once.

  • that's not a lp goldtop, although he has played it before...at '07 wanee according the article you referenced. by the headstock, that looks like a 3/4 scale supro to me. there are some other videos on here of him playing a different supro and an old silvertone amp-in-case style guitar. i think he looks for old crappy $100 guitars, then takes them on stage.

  • he talks about you can only get that old sound out an old beater guitar and beater amp, so he said hes tryin to buy em up before they get too over priced cause you just cant get that same sound on a new guitar. except for hubert sumlin of course, he can do it with a brand new les paul

  • it may just be too late....lol they have shot up like crazy....i bet ya can find some at pawn shops in big citys though....that tone is awesome...lots of the old guys played the old silvertones from sears or mongomery ward catalogs....man back n the day.....aint it awesome

  • no effin way.. for real?

  • no man, thats not even a les paul, neither is it duanes les paul. thats an old silvertone, probably a supro. they were sold by sears back in the 50s and old blues players use to use em, hubert sumlin of howlin wolf to get his signature sound, meet me in the bottom is a howlin wolf cover.

  • thanks for the info dude! i just bought my first howlin wolf album, and i was wondering what that strange guitar he was using on the album cover,

  • Harmony???

  • anybody know what type of guitar that is?

  • the kind of guitars Ry Cooder collects in his basement, lol ...
