It's a hard choice. I mean the mega blocks Thomas resembles the season 12 Thomas. The wooden Thomas resembles the season 10 Thomas.

Yeah, for detail, not counting the more expensive engines, ertl is the best.

I like Tomix, and BANDAI. The japanese verisons are expensive, and hard to find, but the detail is incredable.

To me the worst aspect to the mega block range is the really crappy wheel sets, it's very nasty work and look wrong. I should have showed in detail how rough the wheel assembly is made.

Not sure why the Thomas empire allows such low end toys to be available.

There are even smaller Thomas models than the PEZ Thomas. They're made by a company called Sweet, they are about 15mm in length and the smaller engines are extremely accurate. They come in eggs, similar to Kinder Surprise, though the foil packaging is blue and has a character on it.

Look out for them!!

I grew up with the Ertl toys, In fact I still have them in a box somewhere in my basement (I should get them out) I love them and I will never get rid of them. I think the Ertls were the best as far as character design goes, the die-cast made them more realistic.

I have to agree with you here, I have slowly come around to thinking the wooden series of toys is well designed and well made.

Well there a lot of factors... Even for the best ones:

- The ERTL one is very realistic, but it's boiler is very awkward and pushed forward

- The TOMY Thomas is detailed correctly, but is too wide

- The Wooden range depicts Thomas in his many moods and is detailed nicely

- All the other brands are either too deformed or weirdly shaped

All in all, the Wooden range depicts his character the best, but ERTL's depict his look the best...

That's my opinion!
