Talk about one person making a difference. Thank you Don Cornelius, for leaving us with such a legacy! Many of us who grew up in this era, truly appreciated picking up the latest dance moves during the memorable "Soul Train Line". Were it not for Soul Train, a number of talented, non mainstream artists' like O' bryan, and Jimmy Bo Horn would never have had their music played on the radio. Like the Appollo, Soul Train became the launching pad for some of the greatest r&b artists of all time!
Soultrain, soultrain!,u always had the fliest black ladies but always had the men looking like a bunch girls.....these devils was working even back then-Damn Illuminati !

now this is what I call line dancing one line of guys one line of girls & you dance in the middle down the line not like this fuck ass shit electric slide
The guys always had the funkiest moves, and steps, but it's such a shame , that so many fans viewing this segment, have to point out, how well dressed the women were! Times have unfortunately changed! Today, female celebrities are mimicking the trashy look of the once, scoffed at, "streetwalker"! All a female celebrity has to do, is tear a couple of napkins apart, adjust some safety pins, at the side, and presto, there's your "fashion icon"!

@TheReneex I'm laughing! (or, as the youth and many adults say these days: LMAO!) "...just tear a couple of NAPKINS apart and add some safety pins and PRESTOOOO!" That's HILARIOUS because it's so TRUE! You couldn't have hit THAT nail more squarely on the head if you...were the World's Greatest Carpenter (Wasn't that Jesus?) But pardon me, I digress...You're talkin' Square Biz on that! Funny but true!
Kid-friendly song. I threw this (best of the Silvers CD) on the CD player yesterday, messing around, cleaning up, vacuuming and stuff, blasting the stereo... you know how we do. My 10 yr old niece likes this song. I did too, when I first heard it when I was 10.
I USED TO LOOK FORWARD TO THIS DANCING ON EVERY SHOW CAUSE I WOULD TRY ALL THEIR MOVES WHILE I WAS BABY SITTING FOR THREE KIDS FOR $1.00 AN HOUR FOR ALL THREE. AND I WAS 15 YEARS OLD. THOSE WERE STILL GOOD TIMES.
These were the days before they started adding this BS to food that make us fat. We are not eating anymore now than we did back in the 70's its the dam food. Most of the people in the US was thin and healthy, but look at us now.
@boomp Couldn' agree with you more! Culturally speaking, our nation is sinking, like quicksand! Can you imagine 20 years, from now, trying to reflect on the shoddy music and x-rated videos of marginally-talented African-American "exhibitionists" like Rhianna, Ciara, Beyonce, Ashanti and the numerous, overexposed, over-paid, hip-hop artist?
@TheReneex I don't even want to reflect on the horror of it! Gloria Gaynor said it best on the Monique Show, that "America is perpetually a teenager and it doesn't want to grow up". I'm leaving for Europe next year in 2012. At least they truly appreciate real R & B/ Soul music by all the greats from the 60's, 70's, 80's and early 90's. It's sad to find out the only country that appreciates our music is a half a world away and not even our own!
The Centric Channel has aquired the rights to the vintage Soul Train program. But sadly, they continue to air the same performances of "A-list" stars, from the 70's, such as James Brown, Aretha Franklin and The Jacksons. This show regularly, welcomed a number of great (black) artists and bands, such as The Sylvers, who left a legacy of great music, and captivating performances, seen no where else! And they need to show them!
Wow...I did not know that...I always thought that Leon's first child was with Nidra Beard of the group Dynasty.....(I remember back in the day when I met them at a club in Philly, that's the girl who was on his arm) I also thought that that child (the one with Nidra) is the same crying child you hear in the background on the YouTube clip of The Sylvers being interviewed by Dick Clark on American Bandstand.....Thanks for the post!
When I saw Unsung last Monday they shown a clip of that song from another show. Oh I wished I could see that entire performance. It is one of my fave songs. Even though I was 14 years old, it reminds me of the Class of 1977.
Jeffrey and Jody set the standard! Soul Train could not extend into this culture today, because nobody dances anymore! Female entertainers like Beyonce, and Rhianna, just slither around like pole dancers, adorned in a bunch of tacky, scantily-clad outfits, while (male) hip-hop stars just rap about nonsense, degrading their video vixens!
Don't forget the music today has no rhythm and no soul. So if you wanted to actually dance to the music you wouldn't be able to it. There is no beat to dance too in today's music.
Soul Train was the BOMB! Everybody had their own thing going on and notice of course the line just jammin' in step til it was their turn to shine. I so glad I grew up in the 70's! I can't even go to a club anymore without men trying to brush their PACKAGE against me.(Yall ain't slick either). I guess that's the new come on these days.
And don't forget that Jody Watley had a daughter by Leon, the 1st child for both of them and Leon was so fine then and still is very musically talented while Jody still got it going on, much love to them both!
@bikerider59 Wh-a-a-t? Really? Leon as in Sylvers? Wow...I always thought Andre Cymone was her baby daddy? You always learn something new on YouTube! =)
Jody has two children. Her oldest is with Leon Sylvers and the other child was with Andre Cymone. I wasn't aware that she had a child with Leon until someone posted that information on here. I had to do some research on the net to determine if it were true.
@MIMI88998899 Thanks for the info, I NEVER knew Jody & Leon hooked up back then...learn something new everyday! LOL! If you compare '70's Soul Train to the later seasons in the 90's thru 2000's...there's NO CONTEST the 70's win hands down!! The ladies ESPECIALLY could throw down then the new school ones were half naked and couldn't dance for nothing.
I wish parties were like this today. I am 16 years old and is tired of seeing girls popping it low on the dance floor. I watch soul train all the time(I have the soul train collection) and practice moves like the funky penguin , wishing I lived in the 70s and 80s.
Just saw the Unsung episode on this most talented family...and this song was the JOINT back in the day...I remember this on Soul Train....as the youngest of seven kids....we would JAM to this song...good grooves to move to....that's what I'm talking about....OLE' SKOOL FOR LIFE!
lol iwanna bee back in daa day , da soul train looks soo fun lol god our ppl nah a days cant goo nowhere ndd havee fun , dey always shoot or fight smh .
@nunayobiz Have you ever seen that seen in the movie "High School High" with Melinda Williams and Mekhi Pheiffer at their high school dance? She starts off all innocent, then drops it like it's hot and backs it up into him...It's hilarious...But back to our subject...Yes, these Soul Train Dancers had it going on! Everyone was slender and so well-dressed. I need to look again for Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniel. And ole girl's (You know, the pretty Hispanic one?)hair was only shoulder length then!
@loverution Thanks. WhatEVER she is, she was BAD! You and most of the guys who WATCHED the show most likely enjoyed watching her. They knew what they were doing when they cast her. If you wake up in the middle of the night, say around 3 or 4 am, you're likely to catch an episode of Soul Train on Bounce TV. You can't figure out what you enjoy the most: the styles and fashions or the dancing. And it was just a classy show, from the HOST (Classy Don C) to the credits. And I love the little train!
