  • Hi, Sam. That certainly brought a tear to my eye; hit so close to home.

    A few years ago, I wanted to reconnect with my high-school sweetheart. I called her dad, and he was so happy to hear from me. He gave me phone numbers for both his daughters; I was a friend of both. I never got to speak with "Martha," as her husband answered the phone and wouldn't let it happen. I did call her sister, though, and we had a wonderful chat.

    I went to high school with Tom Waits; never knew what he had in him.
