I got an NES in the early 90s when I probably should have got a SNES that just came out. Anyways I chosed Zelda II over the original Zelda manly because of the graphics. Top down gameplay view to me then just looked to plan dated. Zelda II utilized what was then popular 2D side scrolling.
I thought this commercial was so spooky as a kid. I must have been seven when I saw it. This was before I played any Nintendo. Little did I know how addicted to this franchise I would get.
@FeygeleGoy Everyone has their opinions here, so you're not "wrong", but if I were to give my opinions, it would be Zelda 1: Game was easy and short, commercial was funny and geeky, Zelda 2: Game was beastly HARD, commercial was pretty good, not amazing.
@SlightyDisturbedNBK What? You're just saying that to make us old people cranky. This commercial is cool - action, adventure, fighting giant monsters, hero on a quest, rescuing the princess, yadda yadda. Zelda 2 was a BIG DEAL at the time. There were cartridge shortages all year long because of Zelda 2 and Super Mario 2.
@GialloHorror More like a matter of facts. Almost every single game on the dreamcast was awesome and original, it was the first console with internet (128 kbps...), it invented the VMU, oh, and it was the first console with 128 bit graphics...
@GialloHorror Eh, ok, I didn't only said "the dreamcast had better graphics", I said all the new stuff the dreamcast had compared to the NES, so your argument is obviously invalid.
Meh, don't listen to him. The only reason Melkac talks the way he does is because he grew up in a generation where video game tropes are already well established. Just like we can't appreciate the audacity of rock and roll from our parents' generation, he can't appreciate the joy of discovery that came with the original Zelda. His generation already takes much of what we grew up with for granted. His loss, not ours.
@GeoVII Hm, I grew up in the '90s era, which is know as one of the best era of videogames...I don't need to appreciate the older games more, unless we're talking about megaman, simply because the newer versions improved them in every single way.
@Melkac I suppose LoZ, Metroid, Super Mario Bros, and Final Fantasy were lame and unoriginal eh? I also suppose that the fact that it was the first and only console to have a 20 year production span, incorporation of the modern D-pad, and high sales/reception during an era when the video gaming industry was practically dead counts for nothing eh? How the hell can you compare a 6th gen platform that borrowed tons of ideas from previous generations to a 3rd gen platform like the Famicom?
@mauiboynokaoi LoZ, yeah (not exactly lame, just unoriginal), Metroid and mario nope. Final Fantasy, yeah, a lot.
Does it really matters if it had a 20 years production span? That just means it had great sales, which it's nothing interesting to point. It's like saying Transformers 3 was good because it is the 4th highest grossing movie of all time.
The genesis incorporated the first modern gamepad, not the NES. Also, the SNES was who popularized the layout, not the NES...
Y would they advertise Ghostbusters 2 if the first Ghostbusters game sucked? This commercial barley had any zelda stuff in it... It just had a guy dressed as Link run through a palace screaming "ZELDA!!" =|
@drdst17 It's a good game but with really annoying features, such as walking on the map and being stopped by bugs without any sword to denfend yourself. Dark caves takes time to find a way to lighten them up, which is kind of late in the game. The saving password process is not that helpful either. Props to the entire map though and a good sidescroller game, but as a kid, you really need the Nintendo Power magazine, juste like for Zelda I and many other games.
@sinning1966 I hate to discredit you but there were no passwords used in Zelda II to save a game, it was on battery backup. Also the candle was found in the very first palace, not late in the game. Don't mean to insult you but those statements were incorrect.
I remember this commercial. It has to be from about 1987, '88 or '89. I was an 80's kid and played Nintendo. I loved Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. This commercial was really well made because they had a set and a guy in costume as Link and it wasn't as corny as some previous commercials with funny comedian types. Great memories! Lots of Nintendo Nostalgia
@WrathxSasorixMINE Actually, Zelda is there from the very beginning she is just in a magical coma so the commercial is slightly misleading(but still hilarious)..
you're right Link does look like conan but if you notice at the end of the commercial they showed Iron Sword box art and he also looks alot like Link too. XD
LOL...this "Link" sucks!! Funny commercial, though. I just recently started playing this game again. I never liked it as a kid, couldn't figure it out. I gave it another shot out of boredom. It's pretty effing hard, but it's fun too. Glad I tried it again.
