  • Damn, I need to reread this book.

  • I NEED to buy Paper Towns

  • John, you should have more ten year olds in your books. They're adorable.

  • I love the poetry part. I'm sad that it was removed. :(

  • I am doing Paper Towns for my English Independent Study Unit, and I have to choose a significant passage with regards to the character, theme, plot action, or mood but I am not sure what to choose. Anyone have any idea??

  • I cannot wait to read all of your books! I am so excited!!! :) Thanks!

  • I think all the strings inside me broke, too.

  • Comment removed

  • @stickerlover164902 :( They can be fixed! It takes hard work, but it can be done.

  • "Except maybe the dead guy"

You said that and I flipped out and checked behind myself to make sure there was no dead guy...

    Damn you're good.

  • JOHN BLINKS‽‽‽‽‽‽‽‽‽‽‽‽

  • John, did you pee in a bluefin bottle? TELL ME!!!!

  • He said September 15th. Hehe

  • That's why I'm so angry I can't get any of John Green's books here.

Btw, how did you memorise the last sentence while staring at the camera? o-O

  • Two things- Now I'm wondering why Robert Morris changed to Robert Joyner.

And I still love the lines, "In my memory, it doesn't end. We just stay there, looking at each other, forever." ♥

  • I'll read the book, and forever I'll have John's voice narrating it.

  • Because my country has pretty low levels of awesome when it comes to books,I haven't read any of John's novels, because they don't exist here.I sure as hell want to,but I can't order them cause the stupid shipping would be pretty expensive.Last summer when I went to London,I hadn't discovered the Vlgobrothers yet so that I could buy John's books. So,the next one of my friends who's going abroad for vacation,is going to be forced to buy Paper Towns for me.

  • @JustABitUnlikely11 Can't you order them from Amazon?

  • @JustABitUnlikely11 it's actually really hard to find johns books in england, I've looked, though I haven't checked lately so you never know. So instead I've just ordered them online, I've only ever seen one of johns books "in the wild" and that was in my local library. It was Looking for Alaska, I made sure to slip and nerdfighter note inside. So I think your best bet it to ask a friend that goes on holiday to america.

  • @LazyAbbie Thanks for doing that playlist. It makes watching all the videos from the beginning way easier.

  • @PrettyLoather actually I didn't make the playlist but your welcome anyway :D

  • 2:26 - oooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

i always wondered what was behind him.

  • I hate audio books. They're always too slow, and invariable and boring. But if john voiced audio books, especially his books, I would have nary a complaint.

  • Why did the dead guy's last name change to Joyner after being Morris? And what's with John's books and profanities? Nothing personally against him, just look at my screen name, but I don't think those words are neccessary. I would totally tell my mom to read this if it weren't for those.

  • Annnnnnd now I need to read Paper Towns again.

  • Um, I definitely need to buy all of john's books, like now

  • John and Hank, you are officially in my book XD Seriously, I'm making my characters nerdfighters :P well the two main characters.

  • I think it's amazing to be able to read the final copy and compare it to this draft.

I love your voice John. It's the voice of a writer.

  • i am now really really excited to read this book.

  • Whaaaat. You cut out a "Howl" reference from Paper Towns? How come?? I loved that part!

  • i MUST now read this book!.. if only my parents would let me buy it hmmmm i must figure out how to get it

  • @sowercream1 The library perhaps? You can always buy it later.

  • Ahhh why did so much of this get cut?? I love it

  • shithouse rat= the best simile ever!

  • "She loved mysteries so much she be came one." woah...

  • i think the first chapter would've been better if you didn't edit out the last part :( but still. BEST.BOOK.EVER.it taught me all i know. :)

  • One of my friends read one of your books, and now I really want to go and read one too. And I definitely will when I finish the books I'm in the middle of right now! There's more than usual...

  • erection....... just had one

  • GOOSE. BUMPS.

  • I never understood what was going on there; why she told him to close the window and why they kept looking at each other. Made me so confused. Although, I still have yet to read the book because all I've read was the first chapter in Barnes and Noble. Maybe it'll explain that? Or maybe not. Hm.

  • @TurnTheLightsOnXx - @TurnTheLightsOnXx - I finished the book several months ago, and I still don't completely understand this. It's up to personal interpretation, really, but my opinion of it so far is that the scene summarizes their later relationship, with the screen between them distancing Margo from Quentin, showing some distorted image that really isn't true. (continued)

  • @TurnTheLightsOnXx - It also shows how Margo is always trying to figure out some great distant mystery, while Quentin is just trying to figure out Margo, and yet neither of them can really see each other-- all of which also applies through pretty much the rest of the book.

Basically, I feel like there's a lot of symbolism there that I haven't even begun to scratch the surface of. That's why it's so fun to think about.

  • I've been watching your guys for several months now. Decided to go back and watch all the vids I miss... man did I ever miss some things. I have to admit that I have never picked up your books John. However, the window and screen scene.... omg. That is what a real writing is all about. The ability to make people stop and laugh, cry, or cringe with the imagery that you create with not but words. Going to have to pick it up and read it now though it's not my general type of book.

  • accidentally clicked on an ad, hope u got adsense from it

  • John, why did you take out the Allen Ginsburg stuff? That was way good, and it totally describes Margo. I love HOWL.

  • Comment removed

  • Gorramit John now I have to buy your book

  • margo is everything i want to do with my life.

  • DID ANYONE ELSE SEE THAT BLINK????

  • I love listening to you read your words. Actually, I love listening to you read anyone's words. You should read to us more often.

  • @eragonlover1 I concur. John should tell us stories! :D

  • wow im going our right now to buy your book :)

  • Holy @#$^ your a really good writer!

  • Fun stuff, John. I love "Howl." The end of the chapter sounds fairly similar to the published draft.

  • Goddamnit! You're bedtime is 9:00? Mine was 8:00!

Did everyone go to bed later than me?!

  • nope

  • Yes

  • I don't recall actually HAVING a bedtime. This might explain why I either never sleep or sleep too much.

  • Did John keep the screen-in-the-back-of-the-closet bit?

I need to reread this book.

  • How many days did it take YOU to finish Paper Towns?

  • Oh wow, I loved Paper Towns before but hearing John read it just gave me goosebumps. thank you for writing such fantastic books John <3

  • Comment removed

  • I love Paper Towns. It's great seeing how it's changed! Keep up the good work.

  • John, you have to start reading for your audiobooks.

  • @goujon945 I'd totally buy that!

  • @goujon945 That EXACTLY what I was thinking!

  • @goujon945 Best thing is, he is!

  • @goujon945 he did! For TFiOS! :D

  • Already read the book.... it was REALLY good. i recommended it to my friend too, and he also liked it.

  • I NEED this book. Now where the hell can I get it tomorrow?

  • Now, I think I may actually buy this book.

  • I really never thought about buying this book, but now I can't wait to.

  • I want to read this so bad! The only problem is you need money to buy books and I am broke.

  • Wow that was freakin awesome...I was totally captivated. To be quite frank, I thought it was going to suck ass but was pleasantly surprised. Great stuff.

  • And this is just getting more amazing. I seriously need to get Paper Towns, right now. And I've already fell in love with both of the characters.

  • Fantastic. I love hearing authors read their own writing. Paper Towns just hit my list of books I really need to read.

  • This was great...I am going to buy it as soon as I can!!!

  • I am going to buy this book

  • Omg I can't wait to read the book now. D:

  • AAAAAAAAAAAH this makes me really really want the book so much i can't even wait but i don't have money AAAAAAAAAAAAH I hate book suspense when I don't have the book to find out more

  • but its only 10 bucks 0.o

  • Actually its about $20 but anyway....

    It is sooo worth it.

    It's an amazing book.

Like there arn't anough words in the english language to describe how absolutly phenomenol(<-- Most likely spelled wrong) this book is!!!

    So, Buy it.

Trust me u will not regret it!!

  • I'll have to amazon it. I live in England and I've been looking all around town and bookshops near my town but I can't find it anywhere. I just got £20 though so now i can afford it easily : )

  • yea,

20 euros will deffinetly be enough.

    lol.

  • I have to buy this book, it sounds so intriguing!

And John I love having you read to us :) I normally dislike having a book read to me because I have trouble paying attention and I find it annoying because I'd rather read the dang thing by myself, but you read really well and I didn't feel that way at all. To amazon I must go and buy that book!!!

  • oh my god im in love with your booook aahhh i just wana read it again and again and again, its soo flippin amazing!!!!

  • i love paper towns :)

  • back to the funny.... psh... you know Nerdfighters love to read. John you silly man :D

  • THIS BOOK CONTAINS HOWL IN THE FIRST CHAPTER??!!!! You do realize that I am buying this right now!

  • From what I can remember, that part got cut.

  • Such a clever line about the policeman only giving Margo a quote because she wasn't a journalist. That just seems so realistic.

  • Surprise!... Nothing.

  • I'm about a quarter of the way through Paper Towns and I want to find out what the heck she was looking at that night.....

Do we find out? If not WHAT WAS SHE LOOKING AT!????!!

  • i don't think it was what she was looking AT, so much as it was what she was thinking about what she was thinking while she was staring into space

  • ditto. She was probably thinking so hard, she could HAVE been staring at a serial killer and not have seen him. It's the oblivion of thought she was gazing at.

Plus, don't ask questions like that. Even if she was staring at someone/something (a Black Santa for instance!) I wouldn't spoil that for you!! Just finish reading and then we could debate! No worries!

  • agreed, and i have nothing to add, really, but i think that phrase is beautiful-- "the oblivion of thought". i'm gonna have to remember that

  • John is, like, the only person that I can have read to me. Whenever people used to read stories to me as a kid, I'd get all annoyed because they'd go too slow, or they made stupid voices for all the characters. And then I listened to books on tape and I fell asleep. Literally.

But John reads at a perfect pace, and he doesn't do stupid voices, and he's just sort of nice to listen to. If I ever have to listen to a book on tape again (god forbid), I'd really like it if it were recorded by John.

  • Why did that last bit with the quote, "starving, hysterical, naked..." get cut from the final novel? I really like that.

  • If I may steal a lesson from The John Green Book of Making List-Filled Sentences, I'd like to tell you that 1. Paper towns was the best, most enthralling book I've read in years, although it must be said that 2. it's pretty much the only book (novel at least) I've read in it's entirety since I learned how to find enough key information in these paged creatures to ace the fug out of English tests;

  • 3. even so, if I were to take the last 30 books I've completely read, partially read and enjoyed but got too sidetracked to finish, and/or BSed my way through for class, Paper Towns would still be my most favored. It may be the highest compliment I can give to a book when I say there wasn't a moment where I felt like I was wasting my time reading it when I could have been going on wikipedia binges, playing guitar, watching the Science Channel or drawing or something.

  • In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I started reading An Abundance of Katherines immediately after I finished (hence the "fug" There's no way I'd read the whole 872 page war novel to get that). I happen to be only 14 pages from finishing the Katherines now...don't know what I'm waiting for. Btw, Hassan=full, unbridled hilarity, but his "not interesting"s are total bullcrap. Thank God for footnotes.

  • Anyway, what I mean to say, is: Thanks for taking a crap on authors like Stephanie Meyer and Lisi Harrison and restoring the act of reading fiction (esp. that which is directed toward the youth) to my mental list of respectable hobbies.

    Heritage, not Hate,

    -Marlon.

  • I've just finished Paper Towns. Its nice but I think Looking for Alaska was deeper. But did you rushed the last part? because it seems there's loopholes but i can't place what it is.

  • I really like the "starving...naked" part, I wish you kept it in.

  • Paper Towns is quite amazing. So is Looking for Alaska, and An Abundance of Katherines.

John Green is my hero. Haha.

  • i would really like to read this book. actually i have been looking for a book to read over break... maybe this is the one..hopefully the library has it. =P

  • okay, i have a problem. no, i have two problems:

    1. i discovered Brotherhood 2.0 four days ago, and so far it's been very bad for my education. i haven't studied for my french final at all yet. it's tomorrow. yeah. BUT: i seriously wan't to be a nerdfighter!

    2. i REALLY want to read this book now! and i can't find it anywhere here. Finnish book stores do not have a very good variety of books in English. and paper towns hasn't been translated yet. i think this fact really increases world suck.

  • I'm so asking for this for Christmas!! So many new books for me. Yay!

  • haha me too :]

  • so epic.

im pretty sure you cut that whole part about poetry class out...although i might be wrong.

  • This was a GREAT book

absolutely fantastic and I really enjoyed it (:

I lightly liked Lacey and Q together then I did Marco and Q, probably since I had more exposure to Q &L, even though they weren't ever a couple lol.

but wow, it was a good book.

Im going to pick up a copy of Searching for Alaska tommorow [:

  • Looking For Alaska.

  • holy shit, I need this book, I will DIE without this book!

I shouldn't have watched this! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!

    I'm becoming hysterical aren't I...?

  • Oh I've done the same thing as you! WHAT WILL I DO NOW?! Get the book for Christmas, if all goes as planned, of course!

  • lol, I'm ALMOST done with it, it'll be so sad to have to stop reading it and return it to the library... I wonder, do you John will mind if I just kidnap it forever?

  • who would've thought John was an amazing writer? like wow!

    Go John!

  • this didn't change at all, did it?

  • it was robert joyner in the real one

  • A lot of this changed for the actual book. hmmm..I think I would like to read his original book for more details :D

  • i never heard of this book, what is it about and is it good????

  • September 15th.

    My birthday :)

  • Comment 179:

  • That sounded really good. I've only just joined the vlogbrothers/nerdfighters thing, so I'm still working on getting copies of all your books, but this was amazing. I like the flow and intensity of the words. I'm looking forward to reading it soon. :)

  • i like the newer version better : D

  • Oh man this is soooo good i can't wait till my copy gets here!

  • I wish we could discuss every part of your book. I haven't finished it yet, but I didn't go to class today, because I wanted to read it.

  • I'm so interested in your thought process. Maybe it's not important or you just thought it flowed better, but I was wondering why the person who said "see you tomorrow" first in your reading changed to the second person in the final version.

  • I love that there is a book behind you called "How We Die"

  • that was fantastic.

  • I need my Paper Towns like I need oxygen. Only less so, but only by about 1/10 less.

  • O!M!G! I was already excited for Paper Towns to come out, but now I am super, super excited! I haven't seen the Brotherhood 2.0 videos since the beginning, so I came across this one randomly, and boy am I glad I did.
