"Kwaidan" from the Criterion Collection will let you see, not only the entire "Woman of the Snow" story, but 3 other Japanese folk tales! It is hard to find, but worth every penny! Saw "Hoichi" many years ago, but paid for the dvd of "Kwaidan" and treasure it!!
Ooh..the guy didn't turn out so lucky here? I've heard one tale of the Yuki Onna where she saves two men, a son and father, from freezing to death (I think) and later the son marries her and breaks the promise not to tell anyone about her. She doesn't kill him because they had kids, though. She'd be scary to meet o-o
I love that chanting they do..and they're using a biwa, right? It's so cool ^^ Thanks for showing us.
There are several versions for Yuki Onna story. At some tales the old man is the young man's father. At others, they do not mentioned if both men were family. I have two different versions. The oldest one I have do not mentioned if they were father and son.
The one I got recently actually says they were father and son : )

actually she froze the old man to death who wasn't the father but she spared the young man on account of his looks.
As for this fellow, his fiance came and saved him.

That was one of my favorite tales when I was a kid.
Someone had turned the tale into a "Wierd Tales" comic.
