Carter was gutless. True he never got us in any wars but he also left citizens in Iran under siege for over 400 days because he was scared to do anything about it. People of the world respected Reagan cause they knew he would attack if he had to. Had Reagan been President in the 60's maybe we wouldn't have had 60,000 Americans go to war for nothing. LBJ sure didn't do that.
@Beemanbros while I can't agree with virtually anything Carter stood for, I honestly believe that he's one of the nicest and most caring presidents that we've had. Regardless, his policies were devastating to the country. Regarding Iran, he actually sent in, what is now known as Delta Force (Army), on their first mission to rescue the hostages there. The mission failed due to how difficult the mission was along with bad luck. So at least he did that much.
@BorderlineKeroro If you want to be respected learn to not approach strangers using profanities.President Carter walks around with his head high today because, unlike other idiotic presidents, he did not send american youth to die in futile wars. Just like I respect the work of President Nixon. A political genius, a man of old times. Or even Bush senior, always cool headed. Unfortunately, Reagan and W were disastrous in my view.
@dopamine83 That's your opinion. Mine is different. President Nixon, and I don't blame him for the Watergate affair, was sure a political genius. But when he abandoned what was left of the gold standard in 1971, he sowed the seeds of actual financial crisis.
Yes there was nothing much different to do in that situation, due to the fact he inherited a war. Bush Jr is absolutely stupid, sure. Reagan, in my opinion, wasn't.
@Rico1455 There hasn't been a congressional declaration of war since WWII (which is constitutionally required to go to war). Getting a verbal funding agreement isn't quite the same thing.
@Demspissmeoff You know it! Carter said out loud that BO is his favorite president. And yes, he did neglect to tell the world its because BO took away the title of worst president from him
Carter was right. All these things and much more he spoke of. yet it's only now America is ready to listen to his message, as spoken by Ron Paul.
Carter was actually moderate. One of the huge problems he ran into was the liberal Congress, which pitted him between Republicans he was too Conservative for and a party too Liberal for him. From what I've heard, he, by the end of his term, couldn't stand the company of liberal democrats, preferring moderate Republicans like Howard Baker, and his own Southern Democrats. Not saying Carter wasn't a failure or that I wouldn't have voted for Reagan, but his legacy is often confused.

Reagan deregulated Wall Street, which seriously damaged the American economy in 1987. He also purposely interfered in the hostage negotiations with Iran, putting the hostages' lives in danger for his own benefit. He also thought it was a wonderful idea to provide military weapons to Iran and Afghanistan. Yes, what a great guy he was--he sabotaged his President, destroyed the American economy, and sold weapons to our enemies--then lied to Congress about it.
Two of the worst presidents we've had in the last 50 years arguing who should be president, what a sight to be hold, i wish i could go back in time to make the irony actually mean something
@shaun3701 Carter was the ONLY president in history to go toe-to-toe with the Big Oil by enacting the Excess Profits Tax that limited the rapacious profiteering by the oil companies. If you'll look more closely you will find that it was this strategy that brought about his downfall. It was after he passed this bill that, through OPEK, the price of oil (through artificial contrivance) went through the roof and dumped us into the recession of the '70's. This man was no wimp by any measure.
I'm old enough to remember the America before Reagan and after Reagan and I will tell you plain and simple that Ronald Raygun RUINED the USA MORE THAN ANY OTHER PRESIDENT IN HISTORY.
Yea, I said it. You don't believe me? You're either too stupid or too rich to understand. The propaganda surrounding St. Ronnie is just too sickening. What has happened to people's minds? STOP WATCHING FOX NEWS people.
@tommybass40 Hear! Hear! Reaganomics was the stepping stone which led us to where we are today. The Forbes 400 now have (as of 2009) amassed more wealth than the bottom 50% of all Americans. And in the year 2010 they went from 1.27 trillion to 1.37 trillion. This during a period of severe economic downturn for the majority of Americans.
@ConservativeReality but again he crated jobs that were needed and also like every presidnt before one he took a nation in an economical downfall when a countries is down it is hard to bring it up before it stabalizes same with what is going on today sept what ronald reagan did back the is was positive to the people unlike obama
God, I need a good laugh there boscoruby. Carter was a hesitant participant in the Camp David accords and only jumped on the backwagon when he saw that Sadat and Begin were serious about peace. Sadat paid for this accord with his life and thankfully Carter returned to being a private citizen!
@AngryGundamGamer In the last fifteen seconds of this clip Reagan promised "a reduction of these nuclear weapons to the point that neither one of us represents a threat to the other". Smooth as glass? Sure he was - because he was LYING!.
@boscoruby Ah Politics bringing people together. Thing is very little got done under Carter, at least something was done under Reagan and it lead to a great economy in the long run Hence the 1990's and early 2000's. Politics is dirty and yeah Reagan had to be dirty sometimes but hey it again lead to great things in the long run.
Sadly, Carter was a bad president. For a while, he was a good ex-president but this crap he has been saying about Isreal is beyond the pale. Now, he was a bad president and is a bad ex-president and pretty much a phony from what I hear about him.
@chuckbuckbobuck Carter did more to help Israel than any President before or since
The Camp David accords (brokered by Carter) won Begin and Sadat the Nobel Peace Prize and established a peace that lasted for thirty years between Israel and Egypt
Jimmy Carter was - and is - a nice guy. A heck of a nice guy. And that is exactly why he should not have been president. We can't have a "nice guy" with threats like we had - and still have.
"He has never supported any of those arms control agreements". Nope, in fact Reagan did the exact opposite. And guess what? IT WORKED!!!! Say whatever you will. There were plenty of problems during the Reagan administration, just like all administrations. But he went against everything all of his predecessors did and Reagan was the one that ended the cold war. Gotta give him that. Well, at least he paused it for awhile ;-/
He gave the middle east weapons and trained them to fight off the soviets, and by doing this he basically created what Osama Bin Laden turned into Al Qaeda. Oh ya and he let the world become infected with aids, because he was a homophobe.
@hevblade You are a dumbass. The homosexuals fought the testing for AIDs in the blood supply for a number of years to ensure that it was spread thru the general population. It was called GRID prior to that. That was certainly not Reagan's fault.
I can't believe people actually like this guy. Reagan fucked our country in the ass. He fucked our economy by his bullshit trickle down economic ways and by tripling the national debt buying nuclear weapons we didn't need as we has enough to wipe out all life on earth like 10 times. The Soviet union spent themselves into the ground pointlessly buying weapons they also didn't need as they had enough to wipe out all life 3 times, NOT because of Reagan.
@hevblade You are truly a fool aren't you. Pull your head out of your ass, and look at the factual data with no preconceived ideas and look at the LARGEST peacetime economic expansion in this country's history. Also dumbass why do you think the Soviet Union spent themselves in oblivion? They knew Reagan was serious and they were scared shitless. Also for your incompetence a President CAN't spend a single dime. Only congress can. Try Econ 101 and educate yourself.
@poundsand The Soviet Union had enough weapons to wipe out all life on earth more than 3 times before Reagan was even president They should have known they had enough weapons before spending to the ground. The Largest economic growth in our nations history came under bill Clinton in the 90s, under Reagan it went nowhere but down. The president proposes the budget, congress approves it. They approve it based on what the president says which was bullshit under Reagan. In other words, he lied.
@hevblade Wow can I have some of what you are smoking? Reagan's budgets were declared DOA by Tip O Neil, before they were ever submitted. Graham/Rudman was also stopped by the Dems. You don't have to lie AND be ignorant of history. You are also wrong about boy Clinton, but screw the facts.....right? If only i could figure out some stupid shit you leftists would buy...
@poundsand The Amount of money that is going to be spent is declared, but what it is spent on is often kept secret like during times like the cold war where nuclear arms are a huge issue. certain people of the soviet union knew their amount of weapons, and certain people of the US government know. Reagan spent us nearly into the ground on weapons we didnt need, and the soviets spent themselves into the ground on weapons they didnt need. Your giving Reagan credit for the soviets being idiots.
@poundsand When i Say he lied i say he lied about things at the time only the president had knowledge of such as the amount of nuclear weapons the USA had. back than during the cold war it was all very secret. Nobody even knew the bad shape the soviet union was in until it failed over night.
I learnt in college that Carter was weak & that the Iran-Contra scandal did him in. Reagan was articulate & popular but spiralled the budget of the nuclear arms race out of control & left the US with a trillion-dollar debt. "Carter weak, Reagan bad." was indoctrinated for years. Till now. In recent times, Presidents have engaged Carter on diplomatic missions & crises, with success. Carter is one with a still small voice yet he gets the job done; perhaps perceived as weak but clearly respected.
Reagon was a BAD Actor and a even worst president. Racism grew under Reagon, people died, AIDS grew out of hand., plus towards the end did he even know where, who he was ?? and he is getting tongue tied while he was speaking.
Plus Carter got more bills passed than any other president... google that. fact.
This is why Reagon is so beloved.. He knew that any meaningful reduction of nukes would have to be negotiated from a position of strength. Carter was weak, and the whole word knew it. Reagon`s election sent shock-waves through Moscow and eventually led to the end of the USSR, something the dems in congress fought tooth and nail against. IMO, the current administration has sought to place us in a position of weakness. Difference is, now we have terrorists with access to nukes... SCARY!!
Reagan forced the economy of the commies to fall by engaging in a race they could not win due to the nature of their government mindset - hence the Berlin wall fell.
Clinton was a commie minded ignoramous who let the attackers of the Twin Towers go free the first time they bombed the Towers.
Obama is a straight commie surrounding himself with communist advisors.
BTW - Reagan's ideas DID prove right when they were implemented - FACT.
This mother fu..ker should be behind bars. Carter is the father of the Islamic revolution in Iran. By overthrowing the progressive & pro western Shah of Iran & by selling Iran to the terroist anti USA Mullahs in 1979 he unleashed the virus of radical Islam. Rise of Hezbullah & Hamas, killings of the US army in Lebanon, Sep 11 is all the direct result of Carter's evil deeds not say about 2 million dead in Iran Iraq war 7 million refugees & the mess in Iran since 1979. Fu..ck Carter.
On purely a confidence level I feel due to his years of acting Regan was a much better orator than Carter. Carter seems to mumble a bit whereas Regan is much more fluent in his speech.
This Campaign was Probably Already Over by the Time they Started Debating. America just Needed to see that Ronald Reagan wasn't Crazy in Order to Vote for him.
Jimmy Carter was impotent and useless man. Much like the clown that occupies the Whitehouse today. It seems half the population didn't learn the lessons from the mistakes that the dumbocrats made thirty years ago, so we get to make them all over again.
@SonofThor73 They both are inexperienced, especially Obama, but I don't know where we would be if McCain is president. I will be supporting Romney in 2012.
Younger generations not taught true history, the history NOT watered down with politically correct 'embrace diversity at the expense of safety' nonsense, continually neglect to see the repetitious pattern.
In 1805 after failed treaty attempts with Barbary Coast pirates (now Libya), Jefferson sent Marines into Derna, led by Lieutenant O'bannon to rescue the kidnapped crew of the USS Philadelphia.
In 1805 Jefferson took action! Did the right thing! Not endless deliberation costing more lives!
If you were born after 1981, you have NO SAY IN HOW JIMMY CARTER RAN THIS COUNTRY. I'm sick of hearing all these negative things about people we don't even know!
Well I was born in 1953 , jimmy Carter has been the biggest joke of a president we've ever had ,,, However I think we now have a President that will take over that spot,,,,BO .
Cite some documentation that isn't from the pie-hole of Limbaugh. LOL.
Obama has been pounding on the nation's chest trying to keep us from flat-lining permanently after "W" and his rich friends looted the treasury for 8 years.
No-bid contracts for Halliburton and Exxon so they can get the oil in the middle east and use
America's young people to die helping them get it.
Carter never balanced the budget since we had deficits from the late 60's to the late 90's (he was in office from 77 to 81). Remember the Clinton folks exclaiming the first balanced budget in 30 years?

The Soviets launched the biggest military buildup in history? Not true (a LIE). The USA has ALWAYS led the world in military spending. Why did the media always give Reagan a pass when he told whoppers?
You don't have to spend a shit load of money to conscript poor people to fight wars for you do you? You just have to feed them their gruel and dirty water and provide them with propoganda and a gun. Way to reletivise Communism and Republicanism...
Iran-Contra was good foreign policy? Reagan told the biggest whopper of all: he said he was a fiscal conservative. The reality? The deficit exploded under him. Reagan said he wouldn't raise taxes? He Did! The biggest single tax increase in history (on the middle class--the payroll tax). Reagan told nothing but whoppers.
People should realize that the one who actually STARTED the military and defense build up was Jimmy Carter in order to combat the Soviet. Ronald Reagan took that concept and made it into a political tactic to garner votes, illustrating a better politician. Not leader per se, but a politician.
@poundsand - I concur. Carter sucked. 52 US hostages held for 444 days and he did nothing. The Iranians released the hostages just 20 minutes after Reagan was sworn in. They knew the shit was about to hit the fan if they didn't. Reagan was one of our greatest presidents ever. His speech at the Brandenburg gate was awe inspiring.
@NAGGERNUTZ They released the hostages to spite carter because of peace talks he did in the middle east. Reagan really had nothing to do with it. Reagan threatened to get them out, so did Carter. They didn't release them under the threat of Carter.
@hevblade - Um, I was actually alive at the time Iran took our people hostage and I remember it well. It was on every network news channel every day. I didn't read about it in the Daily KOS or the Huffington Post. Iran released our hostages exactly 20 minutes after Reagan was sworn in, and they did it because they knew they had to weigh the option of continuing to hold them or suffer the consequences. Carter was weak in every aspect. Reagan was a bold leader. We need more like him.
@NAGGERNUTZ Your theory runs on the idea that the middle east is going to be scared by a man who was not yet president, but not by a president. Carter and reagan both threatened to get the hostages out, and the middle east obeyed the man who was president for 20 minutes over the man who had been president for months. ITs because they were pissed at the president who was actually president for a long time( carter) because he tried to make the middle east peaceful.
@NAGGERNUTZ If you want to blame the current Middle East problem on somebody, blame it on Reagan. During Reagans spending spree on weapons he gave the middle east weapons to fight off the soviet Union who invaded Afghanistan. By doing this, he basically created what Osama Bin Laden turned into Al Qeada. Just another example of how reagan fucked us over, which you fail to see unfortunately
@hevblade - Now you're trying to change the subject and put words in my mouth. I'm not blaming middle east problems on anyone. This thread started on Carter being a weak and vacillating president, which he was. Reagan supplied weapons to the mujahideen to fight the soviets, but Bin Laden and Al Qaeda is a completely different issue altogether. And it wasn't Al Qaeda that was created in Afghanistan, it was the Taliban. You're in over your head. Stop before you make a complete ass of yourself.
@hevblade - Yawn. Please go away. You're starting to bore me with your abject stupidity. Reagan and the United States supplying the mujahideen with weapons (stinger missiles) had nothing to do with the formation of the Taliban or Al Qaeda. Please educate yourself before you insist on arguing a point that you're obviously clueless of.
@hevblade oh my, I will not be condescending to you, although I would like to. Its just a simple case that you are ill informed. that is all. with some study you will retract your statement. Reagan was cool under pressure and single handedly defeated the Soviet Union in the cold war.
@hevblade "They didn't release them under the threat of Carter." Exactly. They knew he was FOS, but Reagan was not. You actually pointed out the truth without realizing it.
@poundsand They didn't release them under carter because they hated carter because of his peace talks. It seems very convenient for reagan that the middle east magically knew he was "tough" when he had only been president for 20 minutes. In other words they released them 20 minutes under reagan to make carter look bad
@poundsand Reagan and Carter both Said the same thing which is release our hostages. They released them for Reagan and not Carter, carter being president for a while and Reagan for 20 minutes. Which seems more likely to you? the middle east was scared into releasing them by a random man just took office, or they wanted to spite a man who had been president and tried to bring peace to the middle east?
@NAGGERNUTZ "A few months ago, I told the American people I did not trade arms for hostages. My heart and my best intentions still tell me that's true, but the facts and evidence tell me it is not." - Ronald Reagan
@NAGGERNUTZ Exactly. Jimmy Carter in black face. Actually I'm not too sure that Ovomit doesn't make Carter move up from the bottom of the list to next to last.
@NAGGERNUTZ Obama is just chocolate version of Jimmy Carter. Actually come to think of it. I don't ever recall seeing the 2 of them standing side by side. Could it be that Barack Obama is just Jimmy Carter in black face. Al Jolson would have been proud of old Jimmy. Not to mention Michelle's resembalnce of Rue Paul. The gig is up America has been had by a couple of con artist.
@ericlebo "Hey, you got chocolate in my peanut butter. Hey you got some peanut butter on my chocolate" Those two should have gone into the candy business. Not politics.
@TaqiyyaExposer You are simply wrong. Do you know Reagan had a five point plan that involved toppling the Soviet Union and ending the Cold War? Did you know that each point worked? You are welcome to email me any evidence you have that you think supports your theories. The truth is that you are blinded by liberal hatred for liberty, the free market, and the man who championed both, Ronald Reagan.
No one will EVER be as good as Reagan when it comes to foreign policy . . . he was civil, but stuck to his guns and did not show signs of weakness or allow himself to be manipulated, unlike Obama
To a certain degree, he did have a good foreign policy, but it still had flaws, one being the Iran Contra Scandel. He sold weapons to a sworn enemy of the United States. Another was supporting Iraq in the Iran Iraq war, that helped bring Sadam Husein to power. The final mistake I'm going to name was funding and trainig Osama Bin Ladent to take out the Russians in Afganistan, what he did with the Cold War was great and we had an overall good stannce in the world, but u can't forget those failures
in foreign policy. Domestically and economically, lets just say I would take Bill Clinton over Reagan. Reagan's domestic and economic failures go on and on. I don't think he was a bad president, he did also give the American people the same hope that was givin to us by FDR and the same kind of vison FDR had, but Reagan is extreamly overated by the right wing media because of those failures.
I think he's overrated by everyone...then again so is FDR. True Ronald Reagen had those failures. However I think the image and Ronald Reagen's masculine "Big man nobody pushes me round" was really a nice change from someone like Jimmy Carter who just bended over and better than Bill Clinton who just decides to talk bout his underwear on MTV. Which is just downright stupid...
It was because of Clinton's policies that the economy in 2000 went bust. Clinton also neglected our military and foreign policy. Clinton was far from a good president, no matter how many times Clinton says so.
@HKK91 History has ALREADY noted Clinton to be one of the best presidents both due to his domestic policies (he balanced the budget, you idiot!) and his foreign policies. Sticking to your GUNS appears to be the knee-jerk response exhibited by all your narrow-minded ilk. His foreign policies included treaties like NAFTA which was a Republican idea. Indeed... the Democrats had more cause to complain in that respect. Your narrow view has Clinton as the bad guy NO MATTER what his decisions.
@webbyter Clinton only balanced the budget after the right cut the purse strings. He enforced the CRA and gave banks a way to sell bad loans on the secondary market. How did that work out long term?
@shananagans5 Wait... let's see if I get this straight. You're saying Clinton gets no credit for balancing the budget because the right applied the necessary pressure to force him to that end??? Clinton was as fiscally as conservative as any Republican ever hoped to be. That's why he went along with the right-wing idea of deregulation of the banks. In the long run (which includes your cowboy oil-sucking hero's fiscal fiasco in both terms) right-wing policies are disasterous for common people.
Saddam was in power when Reagan was elected., and had been since 1979. Iran Contra was authorized by Reagan's underlings. Please get your history correct instead of regurgitating what the MSM postulates.

Reagan was a pig.
He taxed waitresses tips for the 1st time ever.
He added a tax on the disabled.
He put a wreath on the graves of the Nazi's
in Bitburg.
He submitted HIS budget and gave Caspar Weinberger a blank check. Another Republican sucker. The last Republican president to balance a federal budget was Eisenhower. Wake up.
Actually, you are the stupid one for failing to realize the REAL reason the debt grew under Reagan- the Democrat controlled Congress refused to cut wasteful spending.

You are right Atomsmasher777. They also don't realize that republican tax cuts do not create jobs or build new roads. Republicans don't realize we have to spend money to make money as a country.

I agree that some stupid presidents sent American to war, but there's not only that in a presidency.
Reagan, during 1980 elections, gave hell to Carter because the USA were in recession thank to Carter's economic policy.
In military field Jimmy was just a surrender to USSR "requests".
Reagan recovered USA economy (even if...) and signed nuke weapons limatation treaties with Gorbatchev. Ronnie won everywhere compared to Jimmy.

STOP WATCHING FOX NEWS people.
tommybass40 11 months ago
@tommybass40 Hear! Hear! Reaganomics was the stepping stone which led us to where we are today. The Forbes 400 now have (as of 2009) amassed more wealth than the bottom 50% of all Americans. And in the year 2010 they went from 1.27 trillion to 1.37 trillion. This during a period of severe economic downturn for the majority of Americans.
FOX is the very voice for Corporate interests.

God, I need a good laugh there boscoruby. Carter was a hesitant participant in the Camp David accords and only jumped on the backwagon when he saw that Sadat and Begin were serious about peace. Sadat paid for this accord with his life and thankfully Carter returned to being a private citizen!

@boscoruby Ah Politics bringing people together. Thing is very little got done under Carter, at least something was done under Reagan and it lead to a great economy in the long run Hence the 1990's and early 2000's. I can't believe people actually like this guy. Reagan fucked our country in the ass. He fucked our economy by his bullshit trickle down economic ways and by tripling the national debt buying nuclear weapons we didn't need as we has enough to wipe out all life on earth like 10 times. The Soviet union spent themselves into the ground pointlessly buying weapons they also didn't need as they had enough to wipe out all life 3 times, NOT because of Reagan.
hevblade 1 year ago
@hevblade You are truly a fool aren't you. Pull your head out of your ass, and look at the factual data with no preconceived ideas and look at the LARGEST peacetime economic expansion in this country's history. Also dumbass why do you think the Soviet Union spent themselves in oblivion? They knew Reagan was serious and they were scared shitless. Also for your incompetence a President CAN't spend a single dime. Only congress can. Try Econ 101 and educate yourself.
poundsand 1 year ago
@poundsand The Soviet Union had enough weapons to wipe out all life on earth more than 3 times before Reagan was even president They should have known they had enough weapons before spending to the ground. The Largest economic growth in our nations history came under bill Clinton in the 90s, under Reagan it went nowhere but down. The president proposes the budget, congress approves it. They approve it based on what the president says which was bullshit under Reagan. In other words, he lied.
hevblade 1 year ago
@hevblade Wow can I have some of what you are smoking? Reagan's budgets were declared DOA by Tip O Neil, before they were ever submitted. Graham/Rudman was also stopped by the Dems. You don't have to lie AND be ignorant of history. You are also wrong about boy Clinton, but screw the facts.....right? If only i could figure out some stupid shit you leftists would buy...
poundsand 1 year ago
@poundsand The Amount of money that is going to be spent is declared, but what it is spent on is often kept secret like during times like the cold war where nuclear arms are a huge issue. certain people of the soviet union knew their amount of weapons, and certain people of the US government know. Reagan spent us nearly into the ground on weapons we didnt need, and the soviets spent themselves into the ground on weapons they didnt need. Your giving Reagan credit for the soviets being idiots.
hevblade 1 year ago
@poundsand When i Say he lied i say he lied about things at the time only the president had knowledge of such as the amount of nuclear weapons the USA had. back than during the cold war it was all very secret. Nobody even knew the bad shape the soviet union was in until it failed over night.
hevblade 1 year ago
I learnt in college that Carter was weak & that the Iran-Contra scandal did him in. Reagan was articulate & popular but spiralled the budget of the nuclear arms race out of control & left the US with a trillion-dollar debt. "Carter weak, Reagan bad." was indoctrinated for years. Till now. In recent times, Presidents have engaged Carter on diplomatic missions & crises, with success. Carter is one with a still small voice yet he gets the job done; perhaps perceived as weak but clearly respected.

SCARY!!

In 1805 after failed treaty attempts with Barbary Coast pirates (now Libya), Jefferson sent Marines into Derna, led by Lieutenant O'bannon to rescue the kidnapped crew of the USS Philadelphia.

NAGGERNUTZ 1 year ago
@NAGGERNUTZ They released the hostages to spite carter because of peace talks he did in the middle east. Reagan really had nothing to do with it. Reagan threatened to get them out, so did Carter. They didn't release them under the threat of Carter.
hevblade 1 year ago 2
@hevblade - Um, I was actually alive at the time Iran took our people hostage and I remember it well. It was on every network news channel every day. I didn't read about it in the Daily KOS or the Huffington Post. Iran released our hostages exactly 20 minutes after Reagan was sworn in, and they did it because they knew they had to weigh the option of continuing to hold them or suffer the consequences. Carter was weak in every aspect. Reagan was a bold leader. We need more like him.

@poundsand - I'm sure he means well. He's just a product of a progressive liberal state run education. They're not too strong on history.
NAGGERNUTZ 1 year ago
@NAGGERNUTZ Your theory runs on the idea that the middle east is going to be scared by a man who was not yet president, but not by a president. Carter and reagan both threatened to get the hostages out, and the middle east obeyed the man who was president for 20 minutes over the man who had been president for months. ITs because they were pissed at the president who was actually president for a long time( carter) because he tried to make the middle east peaceful.
hevblade 1 year ago
@hevblade - Mine is not a theory partner, it's a fact. Yours is a theory. As I stated before, I was there.
NAGGERNUTZ 1 year ago
@NAGGERNUTZ If you want to blame the current Middle East problem on somebody, blame it on Reagan. During Reagans spending spree on weapons he gave the middle east weapons to fight off the soviet Union who invaded Afghanistan. By doing this, he basically created what Osama Bin Laden turned into Al Qeada. Just another example of how reagan fucked us over, which you fail to see unfortunately
hevblade 1 year ago
@hevblade - Now you're trying to change the subject and put words in my mouth. I'm not blaming middle east problems on anyone. This thread started on Carter being a weak and vacillating president, which he was. Reagan supplied weapons to the mujahideen to fight the soviets, but Bin Laden and Al Qaeda is a completely different issue altogether. And it wasn't Al Qaeda that was created in Afghanistan, it was the Taliban. You're in over your head. Stop before you make a complete ass of yourself.
NAGGERNUTZ 1 year ago
@NAGGERNUTZ Its actually Al Qeada that was created....but even if you think it was the taliban, is the taliban really any better?
hevblade 1 year ago
@hevblade - Yawn. Please go away. You're starting to bore me with your abject stupidity. Reagan and the United States supplying the mujahideen with weapons (stinger missiles) had nothing to do with the formation of the Taliban or Al Qaeda. Please educate yourself before you insist on arguing a point that you're obviously clueless of.
NAGGERNUTZ 1 year ago
@hevblade oh my, I will not be condescending to you, although I would like to. Its just a simple case that you are ill informed. that is all. with some study you will retract your statement. Reagan was cool under pressure and single handedly defeated the Soviet Union in the cold war.
MrCagekicker 1 year ago
@hevblade "They didn't release them under the threat of Carter." Exactly. They knew he was FOS, but Reagan was not. You actually pointed out the truth without realizing it.
poundsand 1 year ago
@poundsand They didn't release them under carter because they hated carter because of his peace talks. It seems very convenient for reagan that the middle east magically knew he was "tough" when he had only been president for 20 minutes. In other words they released them 20 minutes under reagan to make carter look bad
hevblade 1 year ago
@poundsand Reagan and Carter both Said the same thing which is release our hostages. They released them for Reagan and not Carter, carter being president for a while and Reagan for 20 minutes. Which seems more likely to you? the middle east was scared into releasing them by a random man just took office, or they wanted to spite a man who had been president and tried to bring peace to the middle east?

To a certain degree, he did have a good foreign policy, but it still had flaws, one being the Iran Contra Scandel. He sold weapons to a sworn enemy of the United States. Another was supporting Iraq in the Iran Iraq war, that helped bring Sadam Husein to power. The final mistake I'm going to name was funding and trainig Osama Bin Ladent to take out the Russians in Afganistan, what he did with the Cold War was great and we had an overall good stannce in the world, but u can't forget those failures
davleuv 2 years ago
in foreign policy. Domestically and economically, lets just say I would take Bill Clinton over Reagan. Reagan's domestic and economic failures go on and on. I don't think he was a bad president, he did also give the American people the same hope that was givin to us by FDR and the same kind of vison FDR had, but Reagan is extreamly overated by the right wing media because of those failures.
davleuv 2 years ago
I think he's overrated by everyone...then again so is FDR. True Ronald Reagen had those failures. However I think the image and Ronald Reagen's masculine "Big man nobody pushes me round" was really a nice change from someone like Jimmy Carter who just bended over and better than Bill Clinton who just decides to talk bout his underwear on MTV. Which is just downright stupid...
Fenderkicksass 2 years ago
It was because of Clinton's policies that the economy in 2000 went bust. Clinton also neglected our military and foreign policy. Clinton was far from a good president, no matter how many times Clinton says so.
HKK91 2 years ago 12
@HKK91 History has ALREADY noted Clinton to be one of the best presidents both due to his domestic policies (he balanced the budget, you idiot!) and his foreign policies. Sticking to your GUNS appears to be the knee-jerk response exhibited by all your narrow-minded ilk. His foreign policies included treaties like NAFTA which was a Republican idea. Indeed... the Democrats had more cause to complain in that respect. Your narrow view has Clinton as the bad guy NO MATTER what his decisions.
webbyter 11 months ago
@webbyter Clinton only balanced the budget after the right cut the purse strings. He enforced the CRA and gave banks a way to sell bad loans on the secondary market. How did that work out long term?
shananagans5 11 months ago
@shananagans5 Wait... let's see if I get this straight. You're saying Clinton gets no credit for balancing the budget because the right applied the necessary pressure to force him to that end??? Clinton was as fiscally as conservative as any Republican ever hoped to be. That's why he went along with the right-wing idea of deregulation of the banks. In the long run (which includes your cowboy oil-sucking hero's fiscal fiasco in both terms) right-wing policies are disasterous for common people.
