I live in berlin ct., and the foodmart of berlin is still currently open. I used to frequent this store also, my dad worked at the newington foodmart , back in the 1970s. When the corporate chain was called, waldbaums Foodmart.
i use to work there. at the time of this filming i was at another store as they were closing it. i still remember my first day working there. getting the carts in the snow. nice store, sad to see it go. last time i checked winter 2008-2009 it was still empty. is anything going on there now?
thats down the street from my house lol when i took the bus they had a gumball machine hat was defective, if you turned it backwards it would give you free gumbals :D we always too like 20 before school
Thanks for the info, I've always wanted to know some history of the store. And it's funny that you mention that it was a "very vintage store". Sure, there are more "vintage" looking markets out there, mainly small ones in picturesque towns, but this particular store had a very late 80s/early 90s feel to it and that's why I liked it. It's also the reason for my choosing the music, which is from the 1989 film Driving Miss Daisy and has that 80s style musical quality to it.
You really just made my day! I loved Foodmart and was very sad to see it go. I'd go there once a week for lunch and to look around.
This came as a total surprise to me and I never thought I'd see the inside of the store again. Watching this made me feel like I was actually in the store back in July/August of last year.
Did you work there or were you just a customer? So far, nothing to replace it. Another supermarket would be nice.
just like when Farmer Jack closed here in Michigan!
