My husband and I felt something very similar to this coming into Colorado from TX, DFW to Denver. It's never fun, but you can trust that things will smooth out soon (usually this lasts for a half hour max). Nature cannot sustain this kind of confused energy along the entire path of a plane traveling hundreds of miles an hour. It does make me feel like I'm about to have a heart attack, though.
I would have been in tears. All the knowledge in my head about safety and I have a LOT of info, still doesn't help me when bumps like this occur. I am scared out of my wits. Still--no way am I allowing a phobia to keep me home. I just grit my teeth and kiss the ground when I get there!
Air travel IS actually the safest form of travel. Just letting all of you know who are like "This is why I don't fly". Believe it or not, you are at more of a risk when driving in your car.
I been through one of those. It's exactly like riding a roller coaster and it went on for almost 30 minutes because we were pasting through a harricane!!!
I'm concerned for my safety when airlines or planes manufacturers or air travel administrations do their job on the cheap. And before traveling I try to have a look on the plane I'm going to use (4/5 years ago a passenger noticed a fuel link on a motor during the roll to take off point, avoiding a crash... the link had occured after the checks). But, yes, we have to trust the whole organization. One thing to remember : the pilots want to make it home too...
Scary but the plane is now still flying so it proves the aircraft can take this. Not a nice experience and I hate trubulence, it makes me so tense and spolis any trip to some beautiful places for work/holiday. I fly little Cessna 152 and 172 types and the 'chop' in those is much worse at times but for some reason not as scary... work that one out??
@boooyaax Yes it is, small planes are damaged or crash because of it regularly. Mostly because the pilot didn't do his homework and ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. but.. a Japanese jet liner was brought down by turbulence alone trying to impress the passengers by doing a fly over mount Fuji. The wind coming off the top of the mountain broke the plane to pieces and they almost lot the rescue planes that were sent out looking for it.
@bigworld3001 yep, I think its an Embraer 190, a nice plane, turbulence are even softer in those planes, I can't imagine how would it feel acrossing those turbulent skies a fokker 100
I went through insane turbulence on a jet blue flight coming into Tampa in horrible rain/wind....they were unable to land & kept having to pull up at the last minute and circle back and try again....it went on & on for 45+ min, worst experience of my life...
I Was on a american airlines 767-300 from PHNL to KDFW. The turbulence lasted a least 1 full hour with some what heavy turbulence. But not bad as this one! i would be scared to death! >:D
I went through the same thing on a Southwest flight from Las Vegas to Arizona it was 45 min. of hell and when I got off the plane I felt like I was beat up by Mike Tyson. They wouldn't let the flight attendants up there was galley carts crashing it was bad.
I have to say I would have been falling about with laughter at this stage, I have done it before on a flight to Cyprus. when I am totally scared I laugh!! Daft I know but that's how I deal with it!! :)
@OYATOKUN I drive a shuttle bus at an airport and one day a woman was really mad and said that, "the pilot was driving that plane like he was drunk" and that she was going to report him to the airline. She said he made the flight to bumpy and shaky.
WOW!! I also had turbulences some days ago, and you are a heroe to film it. I was flying to my home on a Flight from Frankfurt and landing was scaryy!! All people was very scary, and I had a really bad time (I love planes) but I was really scared XD A pleasure to touch down XD
@res340 I'm a pilot. Turbulence is a normal event. When 2 different winds cross, or when there's gusts winds, if your plane's path is in the middle, you just can't avoid turbulence. FYI, in that case the plane's reaction is safe, adjusting to new wind conditions. Theses conditions changing pretty fast, it results a lot of shaking, but as a pilot I NEVER would travel on a "turbulence-free" plane - if it existed, it would be the more unsafe plane in the world ! Atmosphere isn't calm air ...
@Sudsak You seems not to understand how works planes and how they are designed. If a plane doesn't react to turbulent air, that means it doesn't react to its maneuvre surfaces (tail fin, ailerons, etc...), in this case the pilot doesn't have any control of the bird. The planes are designed to have positive and efficient answer to the wind, a safe plane is "willing" to fly parallel to the air flow, inside of the actual air mass. When air flow changes, so does the plane.
Coming home from Turks and Caicos I experienced turbulence like this. One of the bumps were harsher than this vid. Wish I had it recorded. And I'm not a good flyer to begin with. I wouldn't mind all the turbulance if you knew it was gonna end OK. I was shitting just watching your vid.
Flew to Thailand last winter, at 29000ft alt above Afghanistan the plane starts shaking like a hooker in church! 10 mins later when turbulence was cleared pilot (with an evil type laughing voice) said on the speaker "As you probably felt it folks, the Americans are still down there doing what they do best" The entire plane laughed their butts off :)
I was in one like that a month and a half ago I thought it lasted 10 minutes but when you scared 1.5 min feels like eternity, "oh shit" that's right. It was my worst one also.
u shd never use any elec item in aircraft it makes waves which is not gud it effects plane to maintain signal wth the ATC so please never use elec items (team-Emirates)
@superseiyan turbulence like that isn't normal. That's really bad turbulence. Planes are built to withstand turbulence. You'll be safe but you'll feel like your about to crash, also makes u feel motion sick.
The passengers are quiet because they're worried/scared. Usually, when folks are in a situation like this it becomes very quiet. Its in Hollywood movies that the passengers go bat sh*t.
I dont think this was real turbulence, only because, i dont see everyone else reacting nearly as bad as the guy with the camera. Perhaps I am wrong, but he keeps going up and down with supposed free fall, and yet, no one else moves. The lady didnt even close her laptop, how bad can the weather be? I have logged far too many miles to add up, and I have seen real turbulence far worse than this, I would've slept through that weak sauce.
Since I've been flying since I was around 2, I experienced a lot of turbulence over the years, but the side to side turbulence never bothered me. IT'S THE FRICKIN DROPS. You know the long drops, when you think you're plunging to death.
@552mustang YES! I went on a flight a few years ago and I haven't been on a plane in over a decade or more and we had turbulence that dropped the plane for like 5 seconds. I was so fucking terrified, didn't shit my pants though which was a bonus!
I was flying AA 5 years ago on a flight from Ft Worth, TX to Newark, NJ. It was an MD-80. The copilot announced "We're prepparing for landing. The captain has turned on the seatbelt signs..." and then all hell broke loose. Not only was it pitch black in the cabin, but we were shacking really hard. We landed in bad weather in January... it was SCARY!
I can so relate. I was on a SWA flight from Dallas to Little Rock, Ark and one of the worst storms ever was headed the same direction. Outside the it was all BLACK but above the clouds was sunshine. When we began to descend, all hell broke loose, people screaming, you name it. I learned just how much turbulence a plane can take and I have a whole new appreciation. I still fly, it's fun.
@kimshorses02 Then you should stop walking and driving. Statistically, you have to ride a plane every day for 36,000 years until you are involved in a crash. There are currently ~1 million people in the air around the world and 6000 commercial flights happen every day in the United States. Your fear is understandable (turbulences are scary), but unfounded.
I've been in worse turbulence, coming back from Japan on a JetStar flight. I have a picture of the broken plastic in the overhead compartment where the guys head went up into it.
Can a pilot or someone else in the know please confirm for me (and other nervous flyers) that this level of turbulence is NOT sufficient to cause a crash...preferably nowhere near sufficient? :)
I really love turbulence ! Each time I fly to south America I'm so excited because I know that when we cross the ecuator line there are strong turbulence, worst than that ! it is so funny ... now you think i'm crazy ! lol
I've been in worse. It was so unexpected people's drinks splashed all over the call button and overhead lights. I remember getting a drink from the lady behind me all over me.
Finally, a decent turbulence vid. Most of the crap on Youtube is a plane flying through a honey bee's wake turbulence and it's "ZOMG SEVERE TURBULENCE!!!!1"
@expressiveification lol you're so right! its like all the passengers were taken to a secret room before boarding and told something like this "Now listen and listen good, if there is ANY turbulence, any turbulence at all, you are not to whimper, you are not to scream, you are not to make a single peep out of your complaining customer mouths or we will blackball you from ever flying again ON ANY AIRLINE". lol now you see how quiet they are? Watch it again after reading this..its even funnier!
I fucking hate turbulence and I've found a good way to decrease the "fear" is to not attach your back to your seat and just relax and go with the flow like when you are riding a horse...
@seabass450 I'm no epert on turbulence , or cameras, but I don't think it's exageration that's making some of those passengers almost fly out of their seats!
Damn this looks like fun. Everybody gets all concerned but let's face it people the flight attendants and pilots are just chilling and the pilots are probably talking about how scared their pax are right now.
@AIRBUSMAN1978 Well an E170 is not in the JetBlue fleet of airplanes but the E190 is which is what this is. E170 and 190 both have the same interiors the only difference is the E190's is a bit longer.
@AIRBUSMAN1978 It's a E190 jetblue does not have any E170's in their fleet there's not much of a difference between the 170 and 190 the 190 is just longer.
Actually, I have been in worst turbulence. Try flying a small aircraft like the ones used by American Eagle. Those are scary. This big planes can overcome turbulence without resulting in aircraft damage. Good vid though.
My husband and I felt something very similar to this coming into Colorado from TX, DFW to Denver.

Why the hell would you want us 2 come back to fly with you after what just happened
Mjlover09ish 3 months ago
@Mjlover09ish because it isnt the airlines fault they cant make the flight less bumpy be pissed at mother nature

I fucking hate turbulence and I've found a good way to decrease the "fear" is to not attach your back to your seat and just relax and go with the flow like when you are riding a horse...

ive experienced worse!!!!!
seblunder 3 months ago
if you look closely... the camera exagerates the turbulence because it lacks stabilization...
seabass450 3 months ago
@seabass450 I'm no epert on turbulence , or cameras, but I don't think it's exageration that's making some of those passengers almost fly out of their seats!

TheDrummerboy1213 3 months ago
that did seem pretty heavy turbulence for real, looks like an E170.
AIRBUSMAN1978 3 months ago
@AIRBUSMAN1978 Well an E170 is not in the JetBlue fleet of airplanes but the E190 is which is what this is. E170 and 190 both have the same interiors the only difference is the E190's is a bit longer.
plane63 3 months ago
@AIRBUSMAN1978 It's a E190 jetblue does not have any E170's in their fleet there's not much of a difference between the 170 and 190 the 190 is just longer.

You had Naval Aviators flying. They were more then likely eating while flying through this choppy air.

Mjlover09ish 3 months ago
Actually, I have been in worst turbulence. Try flying a small aircraft like the ones used by American Eagle. Those are scary. This big planes can overcome turbulence without resulting in aircraft damage. Good vid though.

So what. The airlines should charge extra for the thrill!!!
