Before the crisis there were already many American farmers buying (cheaper) lands in the Northeast etc. In the past others came. Some groups against the end of slavery in the US moved to Brazil in the XIX century and occupied a town called today "Americana" in São Paulo State. For coincidence, the State of Bahia, where most have bought lands now, is the most black in Brazil and there are white American immigrants (not farmers) who love to live in its Capital, Salvador.
I am brazilian, I just want to say that the vast majority of brazilians are not xenofobic, specially towards legal immigrants. If you respect the people and want to be part of Brazil you are more than welcome, just don't come here seeking to explore and to harm Brazil or its people. I have been to the US two times, it is a great country and I was very well treated. Brazil and US are friendly nations and so it must remain. So help us God.
@RaulRox21, I don't think they want to explore or to harm Brazil or its people, because they could hire poor immigrants in the US. Some people always talk about sovereignity when lands are involved, but it's not the case. As any immigrant searching for better opportunities, they think they can grow quicker in Brazil buying cheaper lands in a place with good weather most part of the year for agriculture. It's a legal immigration and they are employing local people, not taking jobs.
Any contacts for an American farmer looking to work in Brazil during the winter months??? I speak fluent Portuguese, Bachelors degree in Entrepreneurship, a solid agricultural background, and a great love for Brazil.

@30percentplusreturns Any contacts for an American farmer looking to work in Brazil during the winter months??? I speak fluent Portuguese, Bachelors degree in Entrepreneurship, a solid agricultural background, and a great love for Brazil.
you to stay and work in Brazil as a legal resident. YOu will also get yoru photo taken for a national, foreigners registration card, called the RNE. This is your national ID. You CANNOT LOSE IT. It is like a greencard in the US. You lose it, you dont return to Brazil. It goes with the permament visa stamp in your passport. You need BOTH, not one or the other. source from Brazil allexperts website. But perhaps with family IN Brazil, problem can be solved too..i guess..not sure.
and more thing, you cannot have an RNE unless you live in Brazil. if you leave more than 6 months (similar like in the US), they can take it away and you'll loose it. Green Card holders in the US, if that person leave the country for more than 6 months, they take it away. Meaning it's for inside the country..not outside, thats why it's called a Residence Card, temporary/permanent.
@nickfl1980 I had a problem with my RNE once, I left the country for a year and "lost" the document. When I was in the check in area at the airport the guy said to me that my RNE wasn't valid anymore. I told him to call the Federal Police in Brazil and ask. He did and the immigration in Brazil let me go with the penalty of paying a $100 fee. Then i forgot! Yes I forgot to pay the fee for 1 year after getting there. So I went to the immigration, said "Im sorry", they laugh...
@evanbellen and gave my new RNE. Great officers, they know when you are a good guy and don't want to f... your life. Now Im almost 2 years in US and Ill be back in December. In my case is that i speak better portuguese than english, have my whole relatives there (my family is like UN, from all parts of the world).
Hello americans willing to move down. Send me a message I help you out. Im american too but i live 25 years of my life down there. Now i live in NY but im planing to moveback soon. For sure i want to live the rest of my life there.
@evanbellen I think it is in Bahia, really. I rushed. (laughs) The Northeast has many good areas and idle land. Depending on the culture in which to invest, can also be a good deal.
One important note: Foreigners cannot just buy land in Brazil. There are many rules. If it's an investment, it has to be done with Brazilians. Farmers like in the video clip must live in Brazil and to own the land. They eventually become permanent residents (Brazilian version of green card holders) and have the right to gain the Brazilian nationality (most do it for better tax incentives what benifits the farmers, what is far more better than in other nations, source BASF Agriculture)
@evanbellen I understand that the RNE is similar to the US Alien Registered Card. Is it easy to get both? Don't know but there are rules similar like in the US, though I know one rule is different in Brazil what does not exist in the US. That is, if you have a child with a Brazilian, you can (they can still deny you if you have a criminal background) qualify through that rule/loop hole for the RNE. That doesn't exist in the US.
@nickfl1980 I really dont know about the criminal record but they are very open for people coming to live there and work. I personally think they are too open because now I know that lots of people from latin and central america are "invading" Brazil. The money is good and also the quality of life. The crime rate is getting lower day by day, even in favelas. If you really interest in moing there I advise you to get an attorney. And believe me. There are tons of jobs.
@evanbellen I do know about the criminal record. that's common sense and you can find that info. In all countries and Brazil is open but not that open, though they did a legalization of a couple thousand of illegal immigrants mainly from Paraguay, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and yes from Europe, if they didn't had a criminal back ground. Central Americans go more to the US (where they can stay illegal without problems) and yes i know about jobs. Always get an attorney when you deal with the gov.
Starbucks is for primitive minded people. You don't need Starbucks, it's just a silly brand created by a clown that earns STAR BUCK$ for selling imported coffee, that you can also buy in Brazil. Starbucks is corporate coffee, that makes the world looks like a boring place.
WOW, try asking a 3rd Generazion Brazilian american where he is from.... stop bitching, these people MOVED, not like they bought the land and are managing it from the USA, their kid will grow up speaking Portuguese as his mother tounge.
I think we should be "world citizens" before anything else. Able to live in any place in this planet! BUT 'till that can be possible to happen it's true we have to be careful about allowing foreigners having such a big influence in our country! It's sad, but that's reality "bro" !
@mart85sc well it is quite xenophobic. If you don't see that foreigners are generating jobs and kicking the economy's ass you are either blind or thick. But it is understandable. It make myself feel a bit jealous too, thinking that the rich farmer should be me - not the American guy. Not to mention that Americans don't use that stupid "jeitinho Brasileiro" for their own benefit, making everyone's lifes a lot better and a lot more honest. Think about it.
well, I think the rich farmer should be me, not the american guy... nor any other brazilian guy. I could care less about the nationality of the people. I dont believe in stupid nationalism. Its useless.

Esses americanos estão investindo no Brasil. Brasileiros que investem nos EUA tb são bem tratados.
@AllAboutBrazil Sorry, I am not interested in your anti-imperialism ideology of "americanism," etc. Most Brazilians don't think of themselves as "Americans" and they do understand that the term is used most often within the context of US citizenship. What boils down to is that Brazil has close to 2 million of our citizens living in the United States. As it is often said in Brazil government circles, it is a matter of reciprocity.
Sorry if its sounds misrespectfull, but Mrs. Howell sounds very dumb. A farmer missing 'starbucks, and little more conveniences'? WTF (2). Seriously now, Brasil is a nice place to invest, since you are a brave person. You know, bureaucracy, and corruption, mainly both to face off.
Starbucks? They live out in the country.... of the world's top coffee producer! There is high quality coffee all around them. If she wants over-priced "commercialized" coffee that bad just drive into a city.
You are welcome to brazil, is great to see people from brazil and abroad working in brazil. americans have great working skills, and know better than anyone to make a business grow
well what can I say, everybody is welcome as investors over here but I would be very happy if the money they make in Brazilian soil STAYED in Brazil rather than be sent abroad, there are a lot of us in the USA working and bringging money to our nation and so we should not complaint if they are doing the same!!!
I think most brazilians are very welcoming to americans, as we would like to be welcomed anywhere else in the world. I think its great these americans are coming to our land, we can exchange knowlegde, we benefit, they benefit. Welcome to our country!
Brazilians should not complain about Americans immigrating to Brazil. We have millions of Brazilians living in the US, some estimates put the number as 2 million. In addition, American immigration brings farming know-how that Brazil needs. We Brazilians can benefit from this type of immigration. Welcome to our country.
@WAYTOPLUTO Sorry, I am not interested in your ideology. What boils down to is that Brazil has close to 2 million of its citizens living in the United States. They send roughly 7 billion US dollars to Brazil. Whatever you feel about Americans, it is simply a matter of reciprocity.

first thing, explain HOW this is different from the 19th century immigrations
second: foreigners CAN buy land in the US. Or ports. Or everything else. No wonder almost all ports in the US are owned by arabs.
third: what the fuck is the problem of people born in the US to buy land in Brazil? The land still belongs to the nation of Brazil.
