  • Gil Favor and Adam Cartwright were my first boyfriends--they just didn't know it.

  • A mans man Riding his horse in Heaven now.

  • I was born almost years too late to get to see Eric Fleming at his height (I was born in 1982). My grandmother introduced me to Rawhide when I was a child. Immediately, I fell for the trail boss. Eric portrayed the former Confederate Captain with such believability that it was easy to picture him riding proudly under the Star and Bars, fighting against the Yankees to keep his way of life. I've seen every episode and nearly every movie, and love him more every time I re-watch them!

  • Thanks for this. He was the real star of Rawhide even though Clint and the others were great and Clint went on to be a big star on the big screen but Eric was the one that made this series at the time.

  • he would have went a long way in the movie"s today

  • I loved Eric, thank you so much for putting this together. His rich baritone voice is so well known with Head'm Up Move'm Out!

  • I just watched an early movie he made call Fright, last night. He had the perfect 1950's style modulated voice.

  • great memories if eric and thanks for posting this

  • yes - he was the star of the show

  • There is no way I want to diminish your tribute but Rawhide was an ensemble cast. Albeit Gil led them on the trail but Rowdy and Pete and Wishbone et al were equally the stars of this tremendous show! Vale Eric!

  • i was only a kid when he died but still remember him god rest ya Eric (Gil) x

  • Again, what a touching tribute! I can only pray that someone, somewhere will stop for even just a moment and think of me with those sentiments when I leave this world. BEAUTIFUL! xox m

  • Only 41yrs. old! How sad! He was the one I crushed on in Rawhide. Just the way he carried himself, wore his gun and rode his horse. He was a sexy man. I really liked watching shows like this. A time when the good guys always won. They don't make em like this anymore!!

  • @race2run You said it! Fridays used to belong to shows like Rawhide and The Twilight Zone, now there is nothing but diddly squat.

    Happy New Year.

  • great video thanks.

  • I loved Eric Fleming. This is the first time I've seen this tribute and I had forgotten that he died in 1966. My husband and I loved Rawhide and named our son, Eric, after Eric Fleming when he was born in 1960.

  • I still love you Eric, the most beautiful man ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i think he drowned making a movie sad

  • This has made a wonderful start to my day,i was looking for the song Rawhide this is the video i watched.I remember watching rawhide and my Dad talking about it,i was just a kid in the sixties

With these sort of videos on here,we will never forget one of the greatest times, they were filled with hope and always the good guys won the day.

I will always have fond memories of Eric Fleming and thehappy memories he left us with

Thanks so much for setting my day up with a smile :))

    Take care ;0)

  • I guess he was the 'true' star of Rawhide. Clint was a young man then. But who is the true star of any TV series or movie without all the other actors playing their supporting roles? But yes Eric Fleming had his day in Rawhide. Pity he died so young.

  • I never realised just how good Eric Fleming was in Rawhide until I saw some of the videos posted with him and Clint Eastwood. Such a shockingly early death.

  • I was in my late teens when he was killed and it broke my heart. He was the reason I watched Rawhide and it was never the same after he was gone.

  • "Rawhide" was one of the great Western series, and I'm enjoying it again on MeTV. Fleming fit this role perfectly with his powerful presence and rich voice:). Much as I love this show, these reruns are sometimes difficult to watch, knowing that Fleming died so young and so needlessly. But then again, we have much of his legacy on video:) -

  • thanks for creating this tribute. he was every cowgirl's dream. 45+years hasn't dimmed those dreams.

  • Definitely one of the great actors of the small screen. Decent, human and inspiring. My childhood memories are filled with scenes of Gil Favor and his wisdom. God Bless you Eric Fleming. I`m sure you have everything under control in heaven.

  • This was beautiful! Eric Felming was a great actor and the main reason I loved Rawhide. Such a commanding presence and I loved how strong but gentle he was. I was so sad when I found out he died very shortly after finishing Rawhide.

  • i know he's an angel in heaven...

  • What an absolutely beautiful tribute to a great man and actor. Thank you for posting this and sharing it with us!

  • thank you for this video will always remember him as gil favor and him saying at the end head um up move em out i have used it a few times my self and if you see my camp fire glowing in the dark your welcome to coffee beans and biscuits boss

  • such a wonderful actor and handsome too. loved him best of all on rawhide.

  • Lakota, how truly fine of you-Eric Fleming was THE STAR of Rawhide and one of my first heroes. I miss him every day. Strong, taciturn, contemplative, slow to smile, commanding but kind voice, but when he did smile, it lit up the world. A giant even on a small TV screen, commanding as that endless sky. Thank you for giving me a chance to say to an old friend goodbye, I shall never forget you. Incident of a Fine Actor Immortal.

  • A great Actor. i am proud to share his name!

  • lakota, nice tribute. you know the good old days were somewhat of a spiritual education for those who kept the lessons ...

  • He looks like a cute basset hound, it is not fair, but life is not fair

  • head em up,move em out gil!!

  • a very beautiful tribute to someone who i see was very special to you. i am old enough to remember rawhide.

  • Hi Lakota(?). Nice photos of Eric. Another musical background he would have appreciated very much is "Empty Saddles In The Old Corral". I recall asking him once while at the Plummr Park Tennis Courts what might be his favorite Western song - he proffered the above. It turns out Eric had a penchant and talent for music - part of his theatrical experience. Cordially, John

  • Thank you so much for this beautiful tribute to our hero! The song is perfect and the video is wonderful! Eric Fleming lives on forever in the hearts of all those who love him. The fact that it has been 42 years since his death and he still has fans all around the world is evidence that this is one special man who will never be forgotten! Rest easy, Boss. We'll keep the campfire burning and the coffee hot. Our love is always with you!!!
