I miss you Pat!!! Thank you for posting this with these amazing pictures of this great tennis player. I was sooooo in love with him when I was in high school playing tennis. I had a lot of these pics in a personal collection that is long lost :( Love this song too. I remember Craig David. Total hottie too ;)
Great player and very very nice guy. I worked the 2000 US Open in which Pat lost in the first round to Galo Blanco. I wish someone would post that match, it was amazing play by both guys. Ended around midnight with a great passing shot by Blanco to oust Pat. Now when most players lose they don't stop and give autographs, but just rush by. Pat stopped and gave out the autographs to the kids who crowded about where the players would leave the court. That is class folks pure class and Pat has it.
My all-time favorite tennis player, I agree he would award to his opponent a pt given to him when he thought the point was unjustly given to him.........very rare gesture......I like his game a lot but its too hard to copy....
Its really amazing how true all these comments are. As a tennis pro, I really cherished everything about Pat and how he played and lived. He was a true star. But.... *sigh*... all things must end. We have our memories and videos.. Long live Patrick Rafter.
He once after loosing the wimbledon final-treated 10000 aussie fans to unlimited round of drinks
He won the sportsmanship award countless no of times, he once gave his opponent a pt that was given to him and that gesture costed him the match, he has also been a great humanitarian and correctly recognised by atp for that
Best of luck pat-thx for all memories-u beauty
i have not read any posts on this discussion and i am not coming back ever to read anything on this discussion
he excited ur senses, so classy, sexy and charming, along with lew hoad-the hottest player ever-I am not a gay but I wud luv to be like pat for he was god-he donated a large share of his prize money from the slams, he himself has lived a humble life in a two bedroom flat in bermuda despite of having the ability to afford a multi million dollar life
I am an 18 yr old male from india(where lousy cricket is the only thing that exists)and the biggest rafter fan,he was my first B0YHOOD hero and I am crying seeing this video.Luv u Pat, u legend, everything about him is and has been great, his game was great to watch, he was a great player and is the best gentleman forever
Never ever he disputed a line call, once he lost in a first rd of a tournament and he returned the apperance fee after that,
Serve and volley players could still do well now on fast surfaces. For instance when I watched Sampras play Federer in Asia, beating Federer (7/6 6/4) in one of the occasion and doing incredibly well in their second match as well (losing 7/6 7/6), Sampras dictated the game at the net so comfortably. Very few players can do this to Federer these days and yet it's only waiting to be done. I hope Tsonga develops more into a serve and volley player as he's got the touch and the extension.
come on. you cant tell me you think those exhibition matches fed was playing 100% can you. They wanted to entertain the crowd. I mean one of the matches was like 7-6,7-6. sampras was great but theres no way his fitness would stand up against fed at the moment. Both in their peak would be very close. Serve and volley players are rare because the games changed. its a baseline game now. Technologys changed the game alot. Even wimbledons changed, the surface is different. back then nadal would not..
I do think Fed was trying to win. HOwever he realised breaking Sampras who was serving at 135miles/h would not be easy on this super fast surface... so after losing the first set in the tie break, and facing the possibility of losing the match, he decided not to give it his all just in case he would lose anyway. Federer did look weak in that second set he lost 6-4, almost as if it didn't matter. But make no mistake, this was a way to save face, as he did at the AO when asked about Nadal 1d off
@AceGuitarR7 who said, you???? LOL if he BEAT, in the cathedral of tennis, the best player in history (ROGER FEDERER) imagine what could have made Sampras or Agassi or Rafter, I do not want to imagine...
@AceGuitarR7 Pete Sampras was better than Agassi and Rafter together, but Federer is much better than Sampras .. Nadal has a head-to-head 14-7 over Federer, Nadal has been better than Fed, at least in that aspect...
I cry when I see all these pictures ,cause I remember the good times of tennis.Pat played for fun,not for money. He's such a charming and modest guy.I adore him.
He had the most entertaining game on court. Nobody plays like him now. His quick serve & volley game was always exciting & fun to watch. Agree with tacey, tennis is not the same anymore, baseliners just waiting to force an error. Wish we can see more players like him
for the first time in like years i thought about pat rafter so i thought i'd youtube him up. god the memories! Maybe it because Wimbledon has started. rafter v ivanisevic - i can still remember that final! Quality player - sportsmanship, his game...sigh! i still have a lot of vhs tapes of him dating back years!
it's nice to know i'm not the only who misses this incredible athlete and man. not only was he a great athlete but always a great sportsman. tennis just isn't the same without Pat Rafter.... :0( thanks for the great video - more are always welcome
