I wonder how successful he would have been if he didn't pursue the entertainment industry. I think he would have been alive today. The entertainment industry is rough and seem to have sucked the life out of him. He was so smart and charming. RIP Marvin. I enjoyed your music, but I would trade it all in to hear your voice again and see your smile.
I agree with Johnny Carson. Marvin & artists owe their fans only a good performance. Nothing more & nothing less. Most great artist are like that. I include Miles Davis, Pharoah Sanders, Chick Corea, etc. It's a way to keep in real & not phony and it's the music that maters most.
WELL HE CERTAINLY PROVED 2 BECOME WHAT HE WANTED TO BE "IMMORTAL" BECUZ HIZ MUZIK STILL LIVEZ AND WILL CONTINUE FOR CENTURIES THRU OUR HEARTS AND THOSE THAT REMEMBER HIZ LEGACY AND APPRECIATE HIZ MUSIC...R.I.P. TO ONE OF THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME
There Are So Many Ways In Which Many Out There Have Used Words To Describe (or) Express How They Feel (or) Felt About Marvin Gaye.... But From My Prospective, We Haven't Found The Word(s) To Place In One Sentence (nor) Paragraph That Can Best Describe The Man, The Make Up Of: "The Son, Man, Husband, Father, Brother, As Well As A Friend... He Was and Still Is A Gift The GOD To Us All, Rather We Know It Or Not!!!
Marvin was such a great musician. Not only a great singer but he was a session DRUMMER too! I play drums so i know how it is. He was such a brilliant man and i'm glad i enjoy his music still till this fucking day. Thank YOU Marvin Gaye for all the great music man!
@88ritchie I think he was refering to the person whom he was telling the story about. Marvin was born in '39, so if he was 19 that would mean that this interview took place in '58 or '59. Now Marvin didn't began to reach even minor fame until I believe '64...so no...I don't think he was refering to himself.
i think this is one of the most honest interviews i've ever heard. nowadays ppl are so afraid of losing endorsements interviews have become flat and much ado about nothing. i really felt i got to know a real piece of marvin gaye. thx!
He was a very wonderful public speaker. Where did some of these pictures come from???? Some of them are very exclusive. Especially the pics of him and his family. Really good interview
What year was this interview? I really loved Marvin, I was only 17 when he died but I remember my mom playing his music all the time and then he came out with Sexual Healing and I loved it, thought he would climb back to the top but God seen differently. We are blessed to experience his legacy...what power and amazement he was.
@timmy841212 Word. And in case you couldn't figure it out, I meant to say "Marvin" as in Marvin Gaye the singer and not "Marin" as in the fish. Although I suppose those fishes are okay too.
THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS

He really was a good guy at the end of the day. Life seems to shit on good people. I think he represents what artists are missing.
