Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great games such as the Phantasy Star series. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
Phantasy Star music has a style of its own... you can always tell it's from the saga. This music in particular is really soothing. I hope PSO2 has this tune as the character making music! :D
PSO was honestly the one of the biggest and funnest parts of my life, for some reason that game had everything one needed to have fun. Games will never be the same and my childhood is missed.
OMGGGGG i logged in SOOOOOOOOOO MANY HOURS on dreamcast with this game. it's all i knew at one point in my life.......and life will never be the same.
The Dreamcast will never be forgotten, its my favorite system of all time, next to the SNES. I was born in 1996, but that doesn't mean I still love me some classic games such as PSO. Damn, if only PSO made it to XBLA or PSN, ah well, least we still got Scthack Sever
@Y0mAMa5957 yeah it would be cool if they had PSO. Phantasy Star Universe is on Xbox Live Arcade though atleast, dunno if it's on the Playstation Network.
How man, I miss the Dreamcast days so much =( Back then i could come home from school and no matter how my day went, games like PSO, Crazy Taxi, Toy Commander or Jet Set Radio always made me happier, then there was Sonic Shuffle wich was just insanely fun to play with 3 more friends!
was level 84 on this game was so happy coz i just reached ultimante mode. only reason why i stopped was because my brother switched it off while it was savin and i lost all the data was so angry -____-
Does anyone know what the name of the song is when you finished the quest: 'the Grave's butler' You get a sad music when you come back at pioneer 2 with Matha after she heared that her butler died.
Bought PSO V.1 mid 2001 and the first night I had it I played online until sunrise. There was no other experience like it at the time. I remember leaving the volume on my old TV low, so I wouldn't wake up my brother. (We were sharing a room at the time.)
This game was a part of my pre-teen years. I remember rushing home from school, doing a half-ass job on my chores just to play this game. me and about 3 of my friends would go to each others houses, and play pso all night and day. Sadly all my friends moved away, and i got rid of my gamecube and all of my games some times ago. I will never forget this game and the good memories it gave me.
@TheGermFever Lol I played this 6 years ago too, one of the most addicting games I've ever played. I'm sure you've been told, but you can still play this online for the PC for free.
I just got shivers down my spine when listening to this. That's how much I love this game. I had 4 weeks of late charges when this game first came out b/c I couldn't stop playing it endlessly b/c my ebay purchased was taking a very long time to ship and I couldn't live without PSO for a single day. Ahhh, the great memories. You know what's odd? FF3/Chrono Trigger(SNES) and this game are my favourite of all time. From then till now, nothing has given me the same experience as all three did = /
While I didn't play it on the Dreamcast, I played it on the Gamecube and I loved it quite a bit, even if I never got to play online. This game is definitely one of a kind.
Besides the horrible slow based fighting. The game was great, the music was flawless and playing online is just unforgettable. If only real life was just as cool as Phantasy Star the only problem is that it's too dangerous. I couldn't imagine holding a huge rifle blaster and killing those monster, I'd possible crawl up into a ball.
I feel like Microsoft has shamed gaming, and its truelly a disgrace too look at. Like, I feel like an indian looking at someone littering. Its just that painful. :|
I, for one, am dead convinced that the music in this game is some of the most emotive, emersive, ambient, and beautiful of any game ever created. I have never been more intensely engaged by the soundtrack of a game in my entire life. It's simply amazing, and adds so much to the unique flavor and feel of the whole experience.
@Tengurengu I agree completely. It's almost scary. I really hope that the orchestral arrangements for PSO 2 can equal the atmosphere of these pieces...
Back in the day this was my favorite song from the game. So it was extremely disappointing that you'd only hear it at the very beginning of the game and never again.
In retrospect I guess it was good thing. I'm sure if I heard it too often, I'd get tired of it... like any catchy song you hear too often.
ughhh what happened to sonic team? the new PSO game sucks balls...
can anyone tell me if it's possible (if you have Sega DC) to connect it on a phoneline and still be able to play it online?? i heard online game is shut off or something? is that true???
if i can connect it will i have to pay?? and how would i pay if I do connect?
i know i'm like an 'old newbie'. i've played PSO since it came out but never got the chance to play it online. and now i hella wanna play it!!!
Whoaa, Remember playing this game a loong time ago when i was like10, spent hours playing Phantasy Star Online Ep1&2 on the Xbox Online. Brings back memories. It was popularrrr tooo, made hundreds of friends on this game, chatting with peopel in the Lobbies and stuff, I recall this game being amazing! Awesome Theme. xD
Oh, so this is the original song, I knew it through the OC ReMixes, unfortunately, I never had the chance to play this game. The soundtrack is really cool ^__^.
Only played the old ones and the Phantasy Star Portable ...
ima have to agree on your description ha i did the exactly same thing i would actually play the songs and passed out listening to em cuz they would but me at a relaxing state of mind ha but i didn't do this on my dreamcast ha didn't have the game at the time did it on my xbox ha got the game for 8 bucks and and i must say was the best eigth bucks i spent ha sooooo many hours on that game ha would wkae up early during school just a get a few lvls ha i think they should remake this one xblanyone?
Definitely a classic game, I have played it for days on end. The music was intoxicating, and the gameplay was awesome. It would make an awesome comeback!
Wow I loved this game I still have it but I never play it I spent so much time playing this I got a hunter to lvl 72 and me friend and me played this together so often he had the game before me though so his ranger was lvl 128 those were the good old days
@eternalbliss090222 I never played online either I was just obsessed with it so me and my friend (who lived across the street from me) would play it together everyday on the highest difficulty level available at my level seeing as how you could'nt play on ultimate until lvl 80 we just played on hard alot. And then he got to lvl 128 with his ranger because he played solo on ultimate alot.
for some reason, it's really hard for me to level up.. i envy you guys got up to that level. i gta start leveling up before my pso game rly won't play anymore (so many scratches because that's the only game i really played in sega dreamcast)
@eternalbliss090222 Well, if your not already playing on the harder difficulties then you should try that, because alot of people I know were wondering how I leveld up so high and they werent leveling up fast or very high (42 was the highest lvl friend I had besides my lvl 128 ranger friend) and it was because they were only playing on normal, while I was playing on hard as soon as it was available to me, it helped to have my friend there at the time although at that time he was lvl 96 try it :3
thanks. right now i'm only lvl 56. the problem for me right now is my mag. i have asparas and i want it to evolve for the fourth time and i was wondering how im gonna do that. and if i wanted a mag, where can i find a chart which to feed your mag to get whatever mag you want?
idk why but my mag right now is bothering me cuz it's really big. haahhaha yea im girly
@eternalbliss090222 the mag I have on my Hunter is a Bhirava so its only on its 3rd form to & trust me Bhirava is a BIG mag xD and Im pretty sure it evolves into either Diwari or Rati which is fine cause they both look badass also a warning 5/8 4th forms are big, but the ones that aren't look like little animals so idk, if your girly I guess your into that kind of thing? anyway hope that message I sent you helped.
Did anyone else notice how, in the good old days of playing PSO on the Dreamcast online, that a 33k modem (which the Dreamcast had, as far as I know) and a non-flat rate dial-up connection (which I recall having back then) produced less lag-related annoyance than the broadband-fuelled XBL/PSN world we now live in? Or is that just me? :)
Nope, not just you. I've thought your very statement almost daily. Especially after seeing how utterly horrible many games on my PS2 performed under broadband.
@DB5tothehive I think it has to do with that 56k doesnt run on house electricity and modems are... modems. Phone lines are more reliable but slower I'm guessing, and broadband is different in being reliable
@DB5tothehive It's because today we have government supercomputers that are tapping into your packets to see if you're plotting to MURDER THE PRESIDENT.
@DB5tothehive It might have just been because you were a lot younger and understood a lot less about internet connections and lag, n whatnot. Then again, you might be totally right. Let's hope PSO2, WHICH WAS JUST ANNOUNCED *drool* is programmed to perfection and lagless like the originals.
@DB5tothehive It's supposed to be following in the footsteps of PSZ and PSP1/2, which are led by producer Satoshi Sakai, rather then the idiot who led PSU. Those are very good games, and PSZ is very true to the classic PSO style. Let's hope they keep their work going in that direction, because if so, PSO2 will be fantastic.
@DB5tothehive well im a little late to this conversation but I remember lagging like a crazy load. and it was fun though LOL. like you know how their was hacked weapons. well I would lag so bad some times that I would like switch my weapon to a normal handgun and it would have the stats of a black monkey bar or w/e it was called with hacked stats and like pvp. I remember killing this one kid With a handgun, through a door.
He was so pissed. awww nostalgia ;; played the xbox live server btw.
but do u know whats the soundtrack called that comes at the place b4 dark falz???on that grass and the funeral at the left and right if i got this right in my mind
@OriginAtrocity I was thinking about that the other day. It's crazy how the online was flawless and I was using a phone cable, ha. PSO was so awesome. I miss that game.
Here's how it is, back in the day game companies were not cheap ass bastards... in other words: "dedicated servers." It was especially good through Sega's SEGAnet ISP (which had direct feeds into their game servers). I was there for PSO and Quake during the Dreamcast's heyday.
Nowadays they are talking about making the next Modern Warfares down the line with a pay-to-play system, but still keeping the current "peer-to-peer" hosting (paying to host my own games wut).
It was a sad day when they shut down the Phantasy Star servers, I was there till the end, even after all the NOLL hackers reset my character countless times. It got to the point I had to have one hand gripping the memory card ready to pull it out if someone started acting suspiciously... But through all that it was still a great game, and no online experience since for me has ever equalled it, because now we just take the online element for granted. Make a direct port for Xbox Live or PS3!
@SawyerSauce I know, I'm hoping that's what the announcement they made was hinting at. Imagine PSO for XBLA or PSN, with multiplayer. I'd buy that and LIVE on it for the rest of my life. Beats the scthack server, which is full of cheaters and stable as a burning building.
@SawyerSauce Well, we know they are doing something, and they were quoted as saying "It';s something very different" and that no one would expect it. A lot of people think it may be a PSN/XBL version of PSO, re-released.
If it is, it's money in the bank for Sega. The theory is that it would be free to play, but have optional content downloads/DLC. Of course, it could be a new series altogether.
fukk Phantasy Star is th best maaan!! the first time playing it i use to have dreams about it for like a month straight.... MAN I WISH I HAD THAT AGAIN!! @K3NO0J1N FUTURISTIC ROBOTS FOREVER:DDD
Red hair? No...what about blue? Hmm...I don't like the color of the outfit, lemme change that...Ok, name....hmm...what if I give it darker skin and change the hair style? No but that hair looks bad...what if I make the hair darker and change the color of the outfit to complement her skin tone and hair color and style? There we go, now I wonder what does this auto button does...
@JackmacProductions Noooo my character!!!! *Sigh* Gotta start from scratch again....man at least this music is real catchy. lmao XD!! good times good times
Easily my favorite audio track from the game. Wow.... memories are flooding back to me now, 10 year ago I was the happiest gamer in the world because of this game.
Each time I return to play this on my DC, I always mimic my characters movement to the flow of this theme. Waking up early one christmas morning, I was blessed with this gem. Amagiri, the FOmar T^T
No shit Lu. I had no clue you had a DC. I still have one, but I think somethings jacked up with my laser; can't get the disc to spin when it's inserted.
lets not forget how everyone apparently ignored Al Gore on saying the internet was the next big thing. lol
I was reading a old Dreamcast mag on PSO and how heavily hyped the game was. I never get old reading EGM or ODM reviews/writeups on the game. This game and possibly AFO also made online console become that small flame of online gaming on consoles.
yea yo everyone thinks dreamcast is so old but yet it came out around the time ps3 came out.I just dont understand how it did so bad in the market for them to quite making systems.
apparently Sega's was in the money problems since Saturn IIRC. Since Saturn didn't sell as well as they expected (until near the end of the system's run) they never really got out the deephole with the money. Even though Dreamcast was a big hit...
Not one of the greatest games ever but it was one of the greatest gaming moments of my life.
The music, the whole online experience (my first), the graphics and production values, and just the whole vibe. Arrrrrgh!!! I'd give anything to be back there, in that period of my life! I become sad when I think that it will never be...
Actually, I can't even listen to the killer music sometimes as it is just too powerful of a reminder.
Sega really has (had?) it's own "thing". Very futuristic...
...Is it Normal that I like PSO better than PSU? I really wanna play this game again. I mean just listen to the music. I would put so much in this game. -_-; PSO Forever...
man this song takes me back to dreamcast when it first came out and i had made HuMar..atleast back then everyone was on the same internet connection...phoneline lol it was and still is one of the best games made so far
yeah i agree with u all. this song had the feeling like you were some kind of super genetic scientist who was giving life to the uber child...android...or hot elf chick (i know hunewearl w/e) or kick azz swordsman dood. And if U were juss chillin w/ a blizz to this song, it was like "welcome to a new world...the world of PSO & Reeces Peanut Butter Cups". This song was cool cause it sounded like taking a plane ride into outer space with cool little drinks and Dreamcasts in the back of each seat.
I know what you mean, this game is awesome. Pure classic. Great soundtrack, one of my favorites, always will be. I do get that same feeling from this track too, southstar44. I remember playing PSO when I was just starting out high school in 9th grade, many years ago. Special place in my heart of gaming.
P.S.
Anyone that may want to start playing PSO:BB or PSU (Phantasy Star Universe, the sequel.) let me know, I would be more the pleased to take another go at either of these great games.
I take back the request to start PSO:BB again, I just went to read news, and it seems the servers were shut down. Damn... I guess all we have now are memories :(
Things come and go, are born and die. I'm workin' hard these days to really get some serious cash under my belt. Once I get my career going & settle down in a house w/ my wife, we're gonna get 2 huge TV's, 2 systems and 2 connections. We'll find a new sci-fi online game & set up a new clan with a bunch of wacky members and symbols. We'll eat Nerd Ropes & Indian take-out while smoking blunts and hunting for rares in some dark virtual cavern covered in halogen lights with a blue metallic sheen.^_^
Lol who else is imagining the player model bobbing his head and shoulders up and down to this?

OriginAtrocity 1 year ago 45
Nope, not just you. I've thought your very statement almost daily. Especially after seeing how utterly horrible many games on my PS2 performed under broadband.
DB5tothehive 1 year ago 8
@DB5tothehive I think it has to do with that 56k doesnt run on house electricity and modems are... modems. Phone lines are more reliable but slower I'm guessing, and broadband is different in being reliable
Dnguyen1319 1 year ago
@DB5tothehive It's because today we have government supercomputers that are tapping into your packets to see if you're plotting to MURDER THE PRESIDENT.
mzxrules 1 year ago
@DB5tothehive Though, it could also be due to the sheer number of people who now play games that can connect to the net.
Or I could just be completely wrong.
But I also agree with what Origin said. =)
BoobOnFroob 1 year ago
it leaves me to ask.... why didn't more people buy this system.
Yeah, Sega's management stunk but that has nothing to do with how ahead of it's time this system was
HyperSonicSquall 1 year ago
@DB5tothehive It might have just been because you were a lot younger and understood a lot less about internet connections and lag, n whatnot. Then again, you might be totally right. Let's hope PSO2, WHICH WAS JUST ANNOUNCED *drool* is programmed to perfection and lagless like the originals.
MalachiteR 1 year ago 11
@MalachiteR
Wow, thanks for the heads up on that. I really really really hope it delivers the expierience that I've read by many that PSU failed to deliver.
DB5tothehive 1 year ago 5
@DB5tothehive It's supposed to be following in the footsteps of PSZ and PSP1/2, which are led by producer Satoshi Sakai, rather then the idiot who led PSU. Those are very good games, and PSZ is very true to the classic PSO style. Let's hope they keep their work going in that direction, because if so, PSO2 will be fantastic.
MalachiteR 1 year ago
@DB5tothehive Agreed!!!

He was so pissed. awww nostalgia ;; played the xbox live server btw.

cheesewheel 1 year ago
@OriginAtrocity I was thinking about that the other day. It's crazy how the online was flawless and I was using a phone cable, ha. PSO was so awesome. I miss that game.
wooofums 1 year ago
@OriginAtrocity
Here's how it is, back in the day game companies were not cheap ass bastards... in other words: "dedicated servers." It was especially good through Sega's SEGAnet ISP (which had direct feeds into their game servers). I was there for PSO and Quake during the Dreamcast's heyday.
Nowadays they are talking about making the next Modern Warfares down the line with a pay-to-play system, but still keeping the current "peer-to-peer" hosting (paying to host my own games wut).
xbandvideo 6 months ago
It was a sad day when they shut down the Phantasy Star servers, I was there till the end, even after all the NOLL hackers reset my character countless times. It got to the point I had to have one hand gripping the memory card ready to pull it out if someone started acting suspiciously... But through all that it was still a great game, and no online experience since for me has ever equalled it, because now we just take the online element for granted. Make a direct port for Xbox Live or PS3!
SawyerSauce 2 years ago
@SawyerSauce I know, I'm hoping that's what the announcement they made was hinting at. Imagine PSO for XBLA or PSN, with multiplayer. I'd buy that and LIVE on it for the rest of my life. Beats the scthack server, which is full of cheaters and stable as a burning building.
TwelveFortySix 2 years ago
They hinted that porting the dreamcast version was a possibility?? That would be amazing.
SawyerSauce 2 years ago 2
@SawyerSauce Well, we know they are doing something, and they were quoted as saying "It';s something very different" and that no one would expect it. A lot of people think it may be a PSN/XBL version of PSO, re-released.
If it is, it's money in the bank for Sega. The theory is that it would be free to play, but have optional content downloads/DLC. Of course, it could be a new series altogether.
TwelveFortySix 2 years ago
It's a good idea. It could even come as episodic content.

ShinSatsuka 3 years ago 23
yeah it was. I remember a article on how "bad" or "unsafe" it was because it had internet access. XD man I laugh so hard at that.
Masterheart 2 years ago
lets not forget how everyone apparently ignored Al Gore on saying the internet was the next big thing. lol
I was reading a old Dreamcast mag on PSO and how heavily hyped the game was. I never get old reading EGM or ODM reviews/writeups on the game. This game and possibly AFO also made online console become that small flame of online gaming on consoles.
ShinSatsuka 2 years ago
yea yo everyone thinks dreamcast is so old but yet it came out around the time ps3 came out.I just dont understand how it did so bad in the market for them to quite making systems.
devappy 2 years ago
apparently Sega's was in the money problems since Saturn IIRC. Since Saturn didn't sell as well as they expected (until near the end of the system's run) they never really got out the deephole with the money. Even though Dreamcast was a big hit...
ShinSatsuka 2 years ago
I have a bunch of EGMs with PSO coverage and preview stuff. Loved the art, loved the observations. I really wished I had a Dreamcast back then....

This music was so cool :>
It really does have a "Welcome to the new world" feeling, like southstar44 said
DarkHarpuia 3 years ago
yeah i agree with u all. this song had the feeling like you were some kind of super genetic scientist who was giving life to the uber child...android...or hot elf chick (i know hunewearl w/e) or kick azz swordsman dood.
