awesome!!!! i was born in killiney and moved to england at the age of 3 months and then to holland at the age of 10. this is a great tribute to a true dubliner, ronnie drew R.I.P gone but not forgotten i have had the good fortune of watching the dubliners performing live in holland it was a great experience!
Faugh "a" Ballagh, correctly stated or screamed,is an old war cry, meaning more or less,"clear the way"(motherfuckers). It was famously adopted by the (Fighting) 69th Regiment of New York during the Civil War,established as New York's Irish Regiment, today referred to as the Rainbow Regiment, who are much more multicultural, and much less battle worthy.
I'm from Galway and came across the video, not bad at all, but check out the high kings version with the pipers etc fantastic rendition...p.s the Irish regiment have a long history of service of Irishmen from all colours so lose the snarky comments please.
Kick ass performance!!! Just gave me goose bumps listening to it for the first time, and mind you i am not even irish lol.Superb rendition!!! So fill to me the parting glass......la la la la........ amazing, big up to the Royal irish Regiment band.Thank you for posting this wonderful piece.
Was arranged by 1 of the Band Members Itchy, when the Band was disbanded we all received a print of the tune and a Tyrone Crystal parting glass. I'm the chubby 1 playing the Bass Clarinet before any of you who know me, definitely miss the Craic.
This is great as always, a total shame that they were disbanded. Have saw them live many times and always feel moved. does anyone know where i can get a copy of the parting glass b the band?
That's a fantastic version! Well done to all the performers.
I sing with the St' George's Singers and we were part of the massed choir at the St. Patrick's day concert at the Waterfront Hall 2008. We had a choir of almost 100 and three pipers - a fantastic experience.
Thank you Tullycarnett07. My great great grandfather left County Antrim to settle in Ohio when my great grandfather will just a babe. So many parting glasses, so many tears of parting. Thank you.
@jim2t6 You should be telling people what they are and what they aren't. Its up to the people to decide their nationality. After all Canadians live in North America but they don't call themselves American.
As the Duke of Wellington said on being called Irish: 'if a dog is born in a stable does that mean it is a horse?
@GaraGambini Seriously thats not what he said. Daniel O'Connell said of him "Just because your born in a stable doesn't make you a horse" He was trying to deny Wellington his Irishness at a public meeting. Wellington never said it. Wellington hadn't a problem with his Irishness. He was an M.P. too for Ireland..
truly inspiring i cried when i heard this it brought back all the memories of my old comrades long live the UDR & R Irish forever in our memories and hearts
yes through the news letter music shop, they have DVD's covering the RIR and even the trip to St Lucia,l have got some DVD's myself the band is awesome just a pity those bastards at stormont got them disbanded
The arrangement was, like the band, unique, if it was mean't to sound like the Clancys and Makems then it wouldv'e been them doing it!!!! It was arranged by one of the most talented guys to have served in the band, and a pleasure it was to serve with him too, a real gentleman, well done itchy

No it isn't. There is a Scottish song with the same name but it is based on an Irish folk song called Here's A Health.

This is good. I like Shaun Davey's (Waking Ned Devine) and the High Kings versions. It's a pub song. Orchestration seems a bit much.

There hasn't been a King in Tara since Brian.
DarkenVise 2 years ago
Considering the Hill of Tara was a ritual site and not the seat of kingship, it's been a bit longer than that. :p
RenegadePaladin 2 years ago
Quite correct, as standard there were several Ard Ri. However the Kings of Tara were conisdered the most legit.
Ceremonially, if he did live to rule long enough, he probably would have done something at Tara. If the Druids had been around during his time.
