Amazing...one thing I don't understand is why people who played those games and who are now game devs themselves, make such shallow products nowadays. Go back to the roots!
Undoublty, after Eye of the Beholder series, one of the best RPG's ever for the PC! Lands of Lore 2: Guardians of Destiny (which I also bought) was far inferior with its bad 3D engine! Anyway, LOL 1 is still a classic and I still hope for a TRUE 3D RPG in the same line and style.
I play the game on XP, without any other programs needed, the only thing that is not working correct is the music, and the vocals lagg a lot.. but the gameplay itself is just fine..
Oh man...this is great stuff. I remember having to do strange things in DOS on my 486sx25 to relieve enough memory to play this game. The Soundblaster was fairly new, so hearing voices and hoof's was unheard of. Great Great game!
When I first played this, i9t reminded me of an interactive version of a classic 30's cartoon, you know those really detailed cartoons before Disney came along! For example, in any modern game, that little imp would run up the stairs in one go, and would not take a breather. In the 90's, like this game, they had the detail like in those 30's cartoons. Today's games are more like the 60's Tom and Jerry Cartoons - shallow and without imagination!
This was the game of my life... no game ever had such an effect on me. Everything was so beautiful, from the graphics, atmosphere, storyline to the music. A cult classic... LOL2 and LOL3 were never a match. Thanks for posting...
This was the first game I ever bought. What a classic! Even today I can remember the special mood in the game, as you felt that Scotia's eyes could be upon your every move.
Although the music is crude midi I still love it as well. Especially the melody in Scotia's castle.
thanks for posting this! i used to play this game when i was like 8 or 9 but i didn't understand too much of the english (my 2nd language)... i played very bad.. always died and eventually gave up :)
I like the version with Patrick Stewart much more, the other voices where better too. And some graphics where different too in my version. :-) Which one is this?
Still one of the most atmospheric games ever, though! "I'm in need of a champion. Who amongst you is willing to serve me?"
Actually, I like the disk version better than the CD one. Anyway, thank you for uploading this video! Lands of Lore is the best game I've played by far. Five stars from me.
Just re-released on GOG.com today! (Actually, both 1 and 2 are bundled together for six bucks.) :)

I don't get it how people don't recognize that they can start a program in dosbox by simply dragging the EXE over the DOSBox icon...

Wow! Westwood graphicians + DOS VGA at their best!

I remember this game. Scotia was really creepy, and Baccata was like a fantasy version of Chewbacca for me.

Oh wait, I commented on that too hastily. I see now this is from the floppy version. Cool! Thanks again! Precious nostalgia.
Once you get that CDROM version, it's so going on my myspace page.

Hehe, I love how the sound and music could vary wildly depending on your soundcard.
But this is bizzare! How come my game's King Richard is voiced by Patrick Stewart and yours is not?
Shipgate 5 years ago
You are right, the sounds and music is in midi format, that is why is weird to hear with another soundcard, :D
