  • I do not speak this language but I understand its beauty and spirit.New to Maris' music and the plight of her people but I understand discrimination being of Native American descent. It is my wish that someday we will all realize that we are all 1 and that there is no place for hatred of someone simply because of their descent and culture. Practice Love and Awareness. And I love you Mari' for your efforts.Thankyou for your beautiful music and wisdom.

  • Kristinusko on saanut niin paljon pahaa aikaan tässä maailmassa.

  • @vierijore

Mie olen sammaa mieltä. Tämä video on siitä pahuudesta oivallinen esimerkki.

  • so beautiful, thank you!!!!

  • It's funny. Before, the "norwegians" tried to destroy the sami culture with christianity and violence. Now, the sami culture is loved because it's the only norwegian culture thats left. Mari Boine does a nice job bringing us the vibes from a melting -vidde-.

  • oh my god...the music makes me crying

    awesome

  • ... where the wind goes.. my love to bé...

  • ... where the wind goes.. my love to bé..

  • ... where the wind goes..

     my Love to Bé

  • .. where the wind goes.. my Love to Bé...

  • it's so fucking beautiful..

  • This happend because they thought that kindness and serinity is equal with stupidy. They tried to break us, not knowing that the spirit of our ancestors live within us, just because they had forgotten that everything is connected. If you are close to nature, you will not forget who you are or where you come from from. Your ancestors will make sure of it! That is true life and true love

  • cool

  • Beautiful song. On which album can I find this song? I checked many of her albums and did not find so far.

  • Hi! I love this song. Could you please write me the title of the movie? I really would like to see it!:-) Thanks!

  • The title is "Kautokeino-opprøret" in norwegian and in english "The Kautokeino Rebellion" :)

  • Kautokeino

  • Vasnor : the title of the movie is Kautokeino oppgjøret.Great film

  • @vasnor The name of the movie is: Kautokeino opprøret.

  • Mulle jubedalt meeldib saami ja muidugi Mari muusika, see on nagu sügavalt hingepõhjast, kuigi keelest aru ei saa.

Ju minus on siis põhjala verd.

    Super!

  • beautiful and amazing voice.

    reindeers are also amazing.

most i like them, when they are free and not beside humans.

  • Beautiful!!! Magic!!! I love her voice. Greetings from Poland. Tomasz

  • Thank you so much because you keep u consert here in finland! I can´t speak sami language anymore, because i forgot that because I go to finnis school..., but next year I can speak that again :)

  • I learned my lesson the 1st time I tried that. I go SO MANY Cari-boo boos! Ouch!

  • hehehe :D

  • I´m Danish living in Norway and hey why always all that talk about politic...Why not just agree about this is a brilliant film with at beautifull song! :-)

  • its more to it than that friend!! more than a 100 years back

  • huärä schöns liäd!!

  • Sami equates to Sissu.

Courage in the face of winter, Courage in the face of danger, Courage in fhe face of life.

The Laplander way of life consists entirely of courage.

This is my way as well.

    (Hmm)

Though not among the reindeer.. I guess it has more to do with automobiles than reindeer.

  • Great song, great film, beautiful country and the Sami culture and people are great too

  • just beautiful....................

  • which film is it?

  • it's called The Kautokeino Rebellion. a very enlightening film.

  • How long time shall we wait for our "Vihtanuppelogát hoavda" ?

We have been waiting to long now ...

  • what does "Vihtanuppelogát hoavda" mean?

  • The Sami culture is beautiful.

  • A beautiful song from a beautiful film about one of the gentlest cultures on this God forsaken planet!

  • Gentlest indeed! I moved to Norway 5 years ago and the Sami culture charmed me even though I have never been among them up in the North. One day though I dream to be standing by their side as they ask for their independence.

  • eilirudy - Are you still talking nonsense about their independence?

  • Independence is inevitable. It is the wish of most Samis if not all. Something beautiful that a dark hearted, cruel and racist person like you would never understand.

  • Oh man! XD

That's a funny comment, almost gotta write it down. Thanks for making me laugh :P

  • have a heart. what if germany was still burnin down norway villages.

  • MrNymoron - Your comment was dumb. It didn't make much sense.

  • Why would they get independence? First of all they would lose out on all the money from the Norwegian government. Secondly, the Same people, great as they may be, have not been in Norway for nearly as long as ethnic Norwegians.

  • It is a proven fact that the Sami people have been living in Middle and Northern Scandinavia long before and nordic tribes got there. Do you really believe that if the barbarous Nordics were there first, they would have just permitted the Samis to settle in that area? When the Sami people get their independence, they will lay claim to the oil reserves in the Arctic sea which would lie in their territorial waters. I doubt they will be in much need of "norwegian government money"

  • That is definitely not a "proven fact".

How can Samene lay claim to "territorial waters" when they are an inland tribe of reindeer herders?

What is a proven fact is that Samene never had a nation state, but they are given much autonomy already, and are given a lot of funds, especially to preserve their culture.

You should make a trip there and talk to some real Samer. I think you will find that their living conditions is first class!

  • Not all samis are/were "inland reindeer herders". There are also sea samis; living and working by the coastal waters of Northern Scandinavia.

Saamis never had a traditional "nation state" because it was never necessary for them. They were nomads and lived in harmony with nature, and didn't know about minerals, territory wars and building armies and governments. Then the Swedish and Norwegian government laid claims to Lappland and Finnmark, and their natural resources.

  • In the 1700s southern Swedish and Norwegian farmers started migrating up north, up the rivers, in search of new ground and a place to carve out as their own. The Lutheran Governments started trading with and Christianize the Sami. To them the Sami were wild and needed to the word of God and to assimilate with the nation state. Churches were built. Sami children were put in Swedish schools. . . you know the drill.

(Similar to what have happened to other minority peoples, I'm sure. )

  • If we were to begin redrawing the world map based on 300 year old borders

then Florida and Puerto Rico should become Spanish territories. Norway should regain suzerainty over Iceland and Greenland.

There are people out there who deserve their own nation state. People who are oppressed now. Look at the Palestine, West Sahara, Tibet.

But you choose to "stand up for" Samene, an exalted minority in the country with the number 1 standard of living. C'mon, you can do better than that!

  • Fyi, nivdenhoj: i receive your replies in my email inbox. I do get your point. But seems like you should be directing your replies to "eilirudy". . . I added the comment on 'sea samis' and the governments historically wanting Samis to assimilate. /Thnx

  • I'm not Norwegian and do not claim independence for the Saami. I am from Northern Sweden. U perhaps intended comment for someone else? /Thnks

    - - - comment from nivdenhoj---

I am not saying authorities didn't oppress Samene in the past.

I am saying that it is ridiculous for you, someone who has lived in Norway for 5 years and hasn't even been to Kautokeino or Karasjok, to claim independence on behalf of a tribe who did not ask for it, and is quite content.

What country are you from anyway?

  • I never said that! Prove it!

  • Prove what. . .? Your comment above that you promptly removed? Well, it arrived in my inbox, courtesy of youtube.

Well, seems like I don't understand the 'reply button', and the seriousness of posting a comment here. I apologize if i made someone upset.

    ;-) Cheers

  • @tonybnuts

It is so beautiful, so spiritual, so subtle ...

I am coming back to it now twice - and I think it will stick to my soul deeply, more and more...

  • @tonybnuts what movie is this song from?

  • @Innle It's from "The Kautokeino Rebellion" :-)

  • where can we find the Kautokeinoopprøret? :D

  • discshop

  • What is the name of the film that was used in this video

  • Kautokeino-opprøret

Or The Kautokeino Rebellion in English.

  • thanks for translate lyrics of this song xDDD

  • "Kautokeinoopprøret"

A very beautiful and brilliant norwegian film

  • Isn´t calling it a Norwegian movie kinda like sprinkling salt on Sami wounds?

  • It´s hilarious how some Norwegians get offended when someone reminds them of what their ancestors did to the Samis.

This is a SAMI movie, now live with it!

  • Are those scenes from a film?

If so, what is it about and how is it called?

  • Elle lyrics (English translation - verse 1)

And so the spring river opened up again

And so we let ourselves drift with the flood

The night of ice had to give in

My dearest son of the wind

(By Rawdna Carita Eira - author)

  • Elle lyrics (English translation - verse 2)

Surely I flew with the bluethroat

Surely I danced with the northern light

In the strongest of breath we exhaled as one

My dearest son of the wind

(By Rawdna Carita Eira - author)

  • Elle lyrics (English translation - verse 3)

The lips of the silenced people

    bursted out in speach

The stream of words once again

    started flowing

    over the frozen riverbanks

    as we finally came together

My dearest son of the wind

(By Rawdna Carita Eira - author)

  • Elle - lyrics (english translation - verse 4)

    When you´re walking

    alongside the reindeer-herd

    When you guard the reindeer-oxes

    with the great antlers

All of the horizon comes alive

    and starts to move

My dearest son of the wind

    (By Rawdna Carita Eira)
