This is Vincent's theme from the Cowboy Bebop movie, it plays when they start discussing his backstory. It also makes sense in the context of the movie as he has been slowly losing his mind since he was experimented on 3 years ago with the nanomachines: describing his constant hallucinations of "being in a dream that you know is a dream but you can't wake from it" ...paraphrased of course. Also adding his discussions about purgatory It's pretty clear he's lost contact with reality.
I know all this is, is one song played over a long clip of "Bebop", but the fact is: it couldn't be more appropriate! It's rare when I feel that someone truly understands something as beautiful as "Cowboy Bebop". Then once in a blue moon, I see something like this and I am touched. Well done cowgirl! There should be a warning on this vid: For true fans only!!
@Bluejerra I'm not sure what 'word of god' says, but you can say he does. It ends with (SPOILER) him saying 'bang' and then he collapses. In the credits you see a gravestone. But if it isn't SAID or we SEE that he is dead, the fans may think to their hearts content...
i really like this song. it seems to fit me whenever im sad. "this world can really be too much..i cant take another day.." that line makes me want to cry and smile at the same time. love this series and this song.
@TidusAbes I don't know... Champloo had a lot of Hip Hop stuff and since that's not as popular in Japan, it made it really unique over there to them. But since Hip Hop is abound here in the US, I honestly felt that if I wanted music that was hard to recreate, that had soul and emotion, that was truly unique, Bebop was the anime of choice.
@Drumroll418 At the same time I think that the hip hop on Champloo's ost was very uniquely produced...I've listened to rap and hip hop all my life but the tracks off that soundtrack still peeked my interests quite a bit.
@mcspoons As far as hip-hop goes, Champloo has some amazing tracks, no question. But it's just not really what I want to hear from an anime. What I want to hear when i listen to music from an anime is something unlike anything I've ever heard before (given that I am not Japanese that is, and anime being the majority of my exposure to Japanese music). Bebop had that hundreds of times over in my humble opinion.
@Drumroll418 I got more of a oldschool New Yorky jazz feel from Bebop's soundtrack, but I think that Japanese producers and artists still take pride in their craft and whatever they get their hands on will sound ten times better then the mass produced garbage I hear on my radio stations nowadays lol
@mcspoons Have you ever read the manga for Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad? There was a sub theme in it that was about how the Japanese music industry is becoming westernized and into selling canned pop and ballads that don't mean a thing. The band "Beck" was a breath of fresh air to save the day and be what music is supposed to be about, emotion.
I see composers like Yoko Kanno and her band the Seatbelts as representing the fight for that dying spark of creativity and passion for their art.
@mcspoons The manga goes further in and ties up a lot of loose ends left in the anime with the abrupt ending. The anime is screaming for at LEAST one more season, maybe two, but I doubt it's gonna happen. That said, when you read it, you'll understand what I mean.
The Seatbelts is one of the pinnacles of the Japanese music scene and with the westernization of Japanese music these days, they stand a bold face against it.
@Momentum139 I was talking about a different manga. Although Cowboy Bebop DID have it's own manga (based on the show which was produced before the manga first rather than the other way around that it usually is).
out of curiosity why is it not important that the segment dosent match isnt the porpose of an amv to interpret the song and anime in the best way the creator thought possible
I feel that this was actually a wonderful choice, Spike is really questioning if he is real or not, he's died once before, so he's seeing if he really is alive or real. This song and selection is honestly beautiful if I was asked, it brings a tear to my eye because of the emotion of the song and feelings behind the scene.
@Fu11m3t41ix, I kind of prefer The Real Folk Blues. This is me overthinking it:
Vincent is a specter, a manifestation of Spike's very inner self, a self that remained in the past, a Spike that would have existed had he not tried to move on. From the long hair, to the attitude, to the memory loss, to the similar philosophies, right down to personality. Vincent is a dark version of Spike, the possibility that the movie was entirely a dream of Spike's supports this as well.

Maybe because it plays during the scene where Vincent recollects and narrates his past in Titan to Faye... I've always associated this song with him since...
@shiorichan19 it is from the movie, which has nothing to do with vicious and the syndicate and is played in the scene which shows us vincent's past story. i would definitely agree that it is vincent's theme or one of them
yes i agree, but it also kinda goes with spike because if you notice on the julia moment shes saying "its all a dream" which goes with the "is it real" title of the song
@RichardHannay - i agree, good sir. and i believe so because thinking back to the anime, on the movie Vincent didn't know what was real. he was convinced the butterflies were leading him to something real.
@RichardHannay actually vincent had sort of the same feeling that spike about his life but not the same intention, i think it fits perfectly to both of them
the live action movie will be coming out 2010 or 11 i think! keenue reeves is going to play spike and its going to be based off the red eye! or first episode ;p
what is the name the music????

i wonder if Cowboy Bebop fans realise that Vicious had an advantage... But there are no advantages in destiny.. Spike had to die!

You have to remember that even Spike is the character who lives between dream and reality as we can see in all the episodes.
