To understand and enjoy the movie has to be done in a relaxed, serene heart and open mind, it is the metaphysical images. But I say, not for all tastes, such as "honey is not for the ass's mouth." It is also difficult to see because it is not a normal movie has little dialogue,-though not really needed-, long silences and a great flashback that takes us back to the origins ..., which can be good-bye to those who are used to seeing exciting action-packed movie, sex, violence and complex plots.
The talent of the actors is important but, first of all, Malick searches a face. Physiognomy is everything for him. He must find the right face. About the dinasours: Let's give the word to T.M. "Dinasosaur Hills": The hills are giant dinosaurs Lain to sleep- Dirt and time, Their bed and blanket. Time passes… Men build homes on their backs, Lay pools over their heads, And walk down their spines. But what will happen When the dinosaur awakens, Yawns, then shivers? Nice poem, no?
@Gooltter Really? I don't think Malick has ever sacrificed acting for a "good" face. There are plenty of actors out there with faces people want to see but who can't act. I don't see Malick taking that route at all.
@Macoronox Your movie was pulled out of every city in our area by the way. Hope your OK with that. Nows the time to invest in a good therapist in case moms busy.
This would have been a lovely slow moving story of lfe in the 60s America.
It was too long, the Shawn penn bits not needed, and the departures into the sureal daft.Thats my opinion. It was self indulgent, and people I was in with walked out.
Overall, the acting was second to non, and so get the film, and edit it yourself!
@1965guitarboy I have to agree. I was a huge fan of The Thin Red Line, but The Tree of Life just didn't connect with me that well. Good acting though especially with the kid that played Sean Penn's character as a child.
@doughboycod2 ... yep the kid was brilliant. The family was on the edge because of the Father, and THAT should have been the focus. It was just cluttered with allsorts of bits which simply left the audience with a feeling of what???, where does this fit in? The acting was the so good, but the pretentious twaddle....
@1965guitarboy Haha I totally agree. I have nothing against Malick, but this movie came out as very pretentious to me as well. It just seemed like a cluster fuck of ideas that he felt needed to be in the movie when in actuality he would have been better off editing out a bunch of stuff. Overall, I got to say that Local Hero (1983) dealt with similar issues and was a much better movie that even had a sense of humor. Btw, I have never seen 'Moon.'
@doughboycod2 I should watch Local Hero, never seen it. Burt Lancaster wasnt it?? Anyway, 'Moon', is not a good film. Good effort, but we walked out, as we thought the story was just too daft -just our opinion though, lots of people loved it.
@multisammmmy really! please tell him that he can play young bob dylan, too! :-) do you know how i can get an autographed photo of him and his two brothers in the film? i love them three so much! thanks!
Can anybody please tell me the name of the song that appears at the end of this video?

The underware scene did nothing for me. Either did the broken window scene. Just sayin.
