My cat does that exact thing when I pull out the vacuum to clean.

The vacuum doesn't even need to be plugged in and yet he will make those sounds and beat the crap out of it so I should also ask... am I a bad owner?

Why do people incist on fuckin with a cat/animal that is obviously stressed, feel threatened or something like that? You people need to wake up and get rid of you´r pets, they are not toys. And this is a good example of poor ownership. A cat does not start to bite or hiss for nothing, so i can just assume this has been going on for a good while. Why not go the other way around, find something that the cat enjoys playing with.
