Why didn't Bea dance like this on the Golden Girls? I remember there's one episode where Betty and Rue sang and danced together.

So when was it that Bea Arthur began to not like Betty White? Was it during The Golden Girls, or was it even when this was taped? I find this to be very disheartening, but from what I have read, the fault was with Bea. She even resentfully claimed that Rue McClanahan, with whom she had worked on Maude for so many years, was getting more lines and more camera attention during certain episodes of The Golden Girls. Evidently, Bea saw herself as the star due to the fact that she got top billing.

@spartacus3ful I don't think Bea really disliked Betty It's just that they were so different. Susan Harris supposedly said that Betty asked her once why Bea treated her they way she does & she responded by saying you know how Bea is. Bea came from a stage background & Betty television. Susan Harris said that Bea treated the Golden Girls set they same way she would a staged production by not acknowledging audience. While Betty interacted & was very playfull with them & it irked Bea.

@spartacus3ful Bea got top billing, but she was not the sole star of the show. Bea, Betty, and Rue were the three ensemble leads in the show and Estelle was the only supporting act, although Estelle is often times seen as just as much of a lead as the others. Bea only got top billing because she was the bigger name at the time (because of Maude).

Hey TJ... Amazing posting. Thank you. Hey!, maybe you can help me. I have been looking for an episode of Dinah from the mid to late 70's in which Carol Burnett, Dick Van Dyke, Betty White and Carl Reiner appear. It was an amazing hour of TV. The banter between all those fun folks was spectacular. I used to have an audio tape of it (from my 8th grade hand held cassette recorder) which was lost, sad to say, but it is a classic. Any chance you have it and could post it? Best, and Happy New Year.

I would love to know the truth behind the supposed feud between Betty and Bea. It's rumored that Bea hated Betty so much she took a dump on her dressing room floor, and when Rue was asked about it in an interview a couple years ago, she didn't deny it and just said, 'next topic'.

@mermaidofsuburbia I don't know, but you when you look at some GG bloopers and behind the scene vids on line and the way these two react to one another I would say the feud was made up by fans.
