Absolutely my favorite song from this concert. Kelly's harmony part on "I gotta get back to you" is a nice extra touch. I get the feeling Jeff really liked playing this; he's really into it (relative to other songs) and he even smiles a bit! Jeff and the gang at the height of their powers....excellence.

ok i am listening to the remastering and here is my take on the remix. the string players aren't singing, the drummer isnt singing...the keyboardist isnt singing...the bass player is singing backup, and jeff is definately singing lead vocal. but there is extra vocals added (in the remix) along with the synth vocorder vocal part. and i do hear a hint of acoustic guitar in the mix too. evidently they added more during the remastering to fill the holes. it definately sounds good. jmho

@southpawjay Yep, you're correct. The previous version of this perfornance had the backing (studio) track turned up to about a "7" with the actual live music & singing at about a "3" on your volume knob. This remastered version basically reverses that. Those extra vocals you hear are just Jeff from the album version of the song.

I started to appreciate this music when i first listened to one of my dads Dire straits cd's, then i realised that it wasn't just mark knopfler that was super talent but the majority of these bands are FUCKING LEGENDARY!!! I'm watching this because I've been watching my DVD but skipping the Turn to Stone and Sweet talking women segments because of the overdub. And I've got a theory! These are the two songs that are obviously overdubbed and Jeff fluffs the words in both. Do you think that might be the reason for these overdubs in the first place. Someone obviously that he was righting a wrong whereas he was doing an enormous disservice.

Remember back in the day this was such a high profile performance and jeff being the perfectionist he is, may not have been happy about mistakes he made, and thus the later overdubs and undeserved bad reputation they got as a result! Its a shame it took nearly 30 years for this to be rectified

@ELONut I don't think Jeff Lynne had anything to do with the editing of this for TV back in 78. I think he would've cringed had he known that it would appear as though they were lip-syncing.

Jeff and Kelly were a little off-key at times here, but they still did a terrific job! I can just imagine how difficult it was for them to be able to hear themselves singing, just 'cos of the sheer noise bouncing around the inside of all that aluminum & fiberglass. And when ya can't hear yourself, you're more likely to sing off-key. Jeff Lynne has stated in interviews that it was VERY difficult to perform in that spaceship. Their B shows prob snded bttr than their A shows.

aha - he fluffs the words here! At 0:23 he sings "askin' for a chance to meet" instead of "hopin'...." You can tell it's wrong cos the response (Kelly I presume) is still "hopin'"
