@MzJollett go back in time and meet them at a smaller venue. They're actually really nice people, i got to talk with Nikki and Brian. As a guitarist it was just sweet to talk to a guy who is so unique and comfortable with the instrument.
And I suppose you know what you're talking about? How long have you been playing drums? Can you play something other than 2 static Hi-Hat/Snare loops per song? If so, you're as good as this drummer. I don't care if your obsessed with his "sick" riffs because he knows how to do a 2 on 3 rhythm, once you get past his coordination, which is reasonably impressive, his actual performance is lacking. I'll consider your insult valid when I hear YOUR song.
Not saying it has to be difficult to sound good, and this is a great band, I have both their CDs and the reason I was checking out their shows was because they are good. But acoustics and all-out drumming still don't mix. I'd like to refer you to 99 Floors by Smashing Pumpkins for how drums SHOULD be played to acoustic. This isn't bad, but it could just be better adapted to the setting. Good to hear you know your opinions are actually opinions. The "lol, stupid kid" comment seemed to be contrary
he does what's needed, and it sounds fine in this situation. if you want insane drumming look up some crazy metal or jazz, not indie/rock/whatever the official genre for this now
Im just saying in this particular case, his drumming is "in the way", at least in my opinion. He should have altered the part knowing that he would overpower in an acoustic set imo.
i love how their songs are so intense. the inspiration, the passion, the intense playing, the insane solo's. OMG brian is amazing. Nikki- such an awesome bass player (and that is sooo hott). chris rocks so hard. he is so amazing. he just makes me wish i was asian, and joe those effects amazing. distortion, reverb, etc., they add so much to the music. you are amazing. omg. I love SSPU soooo much. they are sooo inspiration, and amazing. I can't wait for them to come back to seattle!
I think the studio did a fabulous job at making his vocals sound good to listen to. He is good in the lower ranges live but he can't/will not do the vocals at the same intensity that are on the album. A bit of a dissapointment.
this is true, I was awestruck when i saw them live, literally could not close my jaw. It was also that night that I realized vocals are a very important part of a band (being a guitarist I always placed more importance on the instruments ;) )
what is the point of the guy in twiddling knobs? i mean i can understand when they do like crazy effects but this time...i dunno what he was doing. Does anyone know?
If you read some of their comments on their homepage they say he does a lot. Various sounds that most people are actually coming from other instruments and so on.
It's unclear on this recording but he does background sounds during this song that are almost bleepy noises. :p You can hear them more clearly at other live recordings of this song, but they're really there.
hes their electronics guy. he creates alot of their effects. and he plays keyboard. on their Pikul EP he does alot, and he makes an atmospheric sound on Swoon. but on Carnavas they basically edit him out of alot of he songs. go watch live recordings and u should be able to hear him.

Drummer doesn't know how to do an acoustic show. Great aside from that.
He needs to learn to use brushes or do a pattern with snares off. Snare-on-stick blows through an acoustic and is distracting.

lol, i"ve been playing drums for 2 years and i can play most of their songs, but music doesnt have to be difficult to play just to sound good.
this band is amazing,
my opinion.

that i agree with.
when it's an acoustic set everything changes, i'm thinking brushes would have worked well here

Im not going to like on a scale of 1 to 6 the bass player is a 4 but there is something about a chic in a band that brings her up to a 9 man
