Question : Can Synfig import a bitmap animation clip and animate it? Can it also recognize alpha channels so those imported bitmaps have transparent areas like a cartoon character painted on a transparent cel, like in traditional animation?
Am sorry to say this but Synfig sucks... in this day and age, and with Adobe as gold standard, developers still choose to make their software complicated to understand and use... now wonder people are looking around for tutorials... video tutorials! I'm trying Pencil but it is as sucky when you want to have a background image as static and a foreground image for animation.
@PhantomAct Well this tutorial was made for those of us who don't have money to spend on anything else. I have pencil too it actually is a little disappointing...
@Pirate92a I don't have money either and i'm really searching the web for something half decent. I did something in Pencil (check the nose in my Elmo video) but as you say the software is a bit disappointing. I can program my own stuff but that will take a while. Oh btw, you can load PNG images into Pencil, it's interesting because PNGs can have a transparent background!
@PhantomAct NO pencil is easy to use, i find it great, expect for, i made this AMAZING animation, in smoothness, and frame to frame overall resemblance, i stood up all night making it, but when i tried saving it, the program CRASHED, crashings and laggings are what really suck abotu this program, animating overall is easy though
@AwesomeAnimeArtist First off, it really depends on what u r trying to achieve. It's easy to use, yes, but crap. Mine didnt crash but i can see that happening. It's free, we can't expect much.
That's no problem. A free program such as IRFANVIEW will convert single or batches of images to lots of different formats. So you can create bmp in Paint and then use Irfanview to convert to png. I do this and it works perfectly. (Every time you convert, you are asked to click on whatever colour you want to be transparent).
u really r a fun guy lol.

You should have seen my face when you told me where the import button was. I probably looked like the Joker.

@PhantomAct Well, I'm going to try a student discount site for after effects. If I ever learn the programs I might get some others too.

Can you create your images with paint in Windows and import them to Synfig to animate them?
