  • had one of these a few years ago,it would bring me on roads only fit for farm animals

  • i have a 200 and i cant figure out how to properly reset it..! >:(

  • i have the same unit where do i see what map date install i have and what is the standard i dont think its ever been updated

    thanx

  • I have a Garmin 255 with the entire Europe in it.

The brand to go for is Garmin.

Every airliner in the world, every airplane inthe world uses Garmins.

Mine has never let me down and I wuod recommended to anyone looking to buy their firs sat-nav

My advice is to buy the LATEST model as mine is already slow in refreshing the screen. I thin it refreshes the screen twice a second which is not enough. I have seen my friends whis has a much more frequent screen refreshing.

  • Try to search in " point of interests" .. it will prompt a screen where you type what you look for. Well, on my "GARbage" i have 2 letters F and no G.

So it's basically A B C D E F F. When i called them, they said it's an easy fix, all i have to do buy a USB cable, ( i have to buy it !!) and download a new software or whatever...REALLY..? There was no apologies, nor an offer to send back for a repair... GARMIN SUCCKS !!!!

  • I love the technology, fyi before I bought I checked out gpssatnavreviews (.) com

  • I'm gonna buy a Garmin now.

  • TOMTOm is the best !!

  • No it's a space ship what do you think it is you donut..lol

  • Very useful. Thanks

  • so is this a gps?

  • Nice review, shame you live in Portsmouth

  • I got job at Garmin as Software Engineer. Starting in two weeks :) Hopefully I can contribute much to their Garmins!

  • don't put in the wrong roads and send us in to the wilderness or the sea...

  • thanks

  • OH GODDD BRIAN FREEEZEEE!! eating straberry dacary, forzen, MA BRAIN!!!

  • Who is Brian Freeezeee?

  • no i was drinking strawberry dacary(dont know how to spell the word), and i got a brain freeze from it. lol

  • i went right then left then up the street i ended up righting my car off its stuck in a ditch lol

  • How it works on differentiate an intersection lane?

  • i`ve just bought the nuvi 200w and would highly recommend it , so simple to use

  • Go Garmin

  • you'll never lost if you have one. It's useful I can say that again.

  • I have one, and I have gotten lost. We were going to Chicago to see a play, and it worked fine for a little while. When we got close to the city, it suddenly showed us in the middle of lake Michigan. We tried to reset it multiple times....but it was LOST!!! It has messed up a few times, and it often does not give you the best route. I have not been that impressed with my Nuvi 205.

  • My Nuvi 855 is unable to find a lot of addresses. The maps are not accurate and some of the roads are incorrectly labeled. Garmin also does not label the majority of the roads on the screen. Several times the Gamin Nuvi 855 has suggested roads that do not exist, and a route that takes you through the middle of a building or a field. I have had mine for a few weeks and it has crashed 4 times already. I have to remove the battery and shut it down and restart it.

  • thx for this review, made me decide to buy this

  • thanks for posting this review. it helped me!

  • I knew 6 X 6 wasn't 24!! Damn multiple choice college entrance tests.

  • Will this work from prison? I'm planning an escape and don't want 2get stuck in traffic . . . . .again.

  • lol!!!!!!!!!!!

  • can you get away from steel bars and overhead obstructions, if not you will need the next model up the range and as a bonus it comes with a telescoping shovel

  • How do you load pics in it and get rid of the pics that came with it.

  • How can i change my "home" location, when i hit the "go home" button from my favorites?

  • Does anyone know if there are any monthly payments or anything on GPS devices?

  • No, theres no cost at all.... it connects directly to the satellite.. its not like a mobile phone that you have to pay credit from your phone in order to use the gps capabilities.

  • All you do is buy the unit and your good to go. No Fees at all..

  • You live right next to me ^_^

  • how do you fix the screen if it starts to burn out?

  • great product for a great price, definitely getting one before my road trip next week.

  • Wow what a great video thankyou you for posting this for us to see.

I wish they would have had these back in the days when i drove tractor trailers. I drove over one million accident free miles befor retireing.

I'm going to get one of these Garmin units because my wife,GranDaughter and Daughter have taken to the Road's traveling quite often to places like Ocean City MD and Florida.

I'll repost after i get my unit thanks again.

  • Another question I have pertains to the maps. I do travel between North America and Europe, and with my car (see my vids) at that. How region-specific are the units and how feasible is it to localize? Can I have the US and EU maps loaded simultaneously?

Similarly, for how far east can I count on map data? Poland? Thanks so much.

  • Buy a Garmin Nuvi 270, it comes with Europe and the USA maps.

Poland is covered, and other major cities in Eastern Europe.

  • How do routes work from Mapsource?

  • You can't use mapsource to input routes.

  • That's cool but how bright is it actually in daylight??

  • It's bright enough in normal conddition, but if you're driving towards a low sun you'll have trouble seeing any GPS display.

  • Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking more when the sun shines on the screen. (For instance, my iPod is good in the sun, but I can hardly see anything in broad daylight on the iBook.) I wouldn't want to be constantly cupping my hand over the display and leaning in...

  • @scalespeeder I would have thought that if you are driving away from a low sun and the sun was shining on the display that would have been worse than driving into a low sun, but then what do I know?

  • Only annoying thing is entering numbers here in Canada for the postal code. Ours are: X1X 1X1

  • yes it does, certain messages are not perfect like I 90 would be I nine... missing the OH or TY but at least you can keep your eyes on a road butstill not 100% trusted.

  • thankyou for the detailed on screen review. cannot have everything? GArmin could have left out most of the options and givenspeech to text, that would have sold me on this in the States. maybe later I'll get one thanks again a great help.

  • The Nuvi 260 has text to speech.

  • i have Garmin 710.

    maybe someone will help me?

i don't understand where i should put file with new pictures of cars.

  • I just ordered mine on sat and itll arive on thursday!!!!

I'm a pizza delivery driver for dominos and itll be really helpfull when i have mutiple deliveries yay!!!!

  • hi i have the 250w as my first sat nav, very impressed ,easy to use,i like the speedo feature it's very accurate as i have had my brothers sat nav side by side in my car when testing it.well done garmin

  • does it worth the money to get a wider screen "w" instead of a 250? And is there any other difference in terms of functions between these two? Thanks in advance~ thinking of purchasing my first GPS

  • If you have large fingers the W version helps, otherwise it doesn't make much difference.

  • Can I ask if the mounting does a good job of sticking to the windshield without dropping unecessaryly.

  • Very good windscreen mount, mine has never fallen off.

  • Just got a 200. Works like a dream. No probs with getting satellite connection, the screen looks really nice.

I paid just €150 in Halfords (Ireland).

    Very pleased with it.

  • i have that one its nice.. it plugs into my cell phone charger to charge

  • i got a 250 from my brother that was broke (wont find satellites) and i was wondering if ther is eny way of turning it in to a avi player? eny download that will alow it to do that or to play mp3s on?

  • very helpful , just got a 250W , been down Pompey way today trying it out. Can anybody explain how to load points of interest in to it. Must say Garmins user manual are absolute rubbish and hardly worth having. MS

  • Very useful, just got a Nuvi 200 myself.

  • This is a pretty little thing, no need for an expensive one.

  • What is the SD slot for?

  • The SD slot is for more maps (Europe / US, etc.) or you can put your camera SD card into it and use the Garmin as a picture viewer.

  • I've got to be missing something. I bought the Nuvi 200W a few days ago, and can rarely get a satellite connection. Rarely I'll get even 3 bars, usually it's no bars or one bar. What am I missing?

  • Try resetting the device, phone Garmin for advice or in the final resort take it back, it may have a faulty receiver. All the Garmins I have used pick up a strong signal quickly, even in difficult conditions. Garmin are normally really good at customer support, especially in uk.

  • Thanks, however I figured it out. For some reason, my starting position (my house) wasn't able to get reception for it. However, we took it on a test drive, and the instant we left our driveway reception shot up to the full 5 bars. It was great :D. It's really a great device. Who needs music or movies on it anyway?

  • hey is there any gps device out there specificly for trucks, like truck routes, im truck drive and it sucks to get lost.

  • i have set up all the options like fastest route and avoidances. even set my vehicle as truck and bus etc. still does it

  • Try reseting it using the hole on the bottom. If this still doesn't work, turn the unit off, hold you finger on the bottom right-hand side of the screen, and turn it on (keeping your finger on the screen). This should do a factory reset, you'll lose any saved data, but it may solve your problem.

  • i have one of thses and it keeps taking me down really small and bad raods. i have set up all the options to stop this but it still does it. anyone know how to stop it

  • I guess you've checked thats its up to take the fastest Route? Also check your avoidances, make sure you haven't ticked any of the motorways or major roads. Tell us how you get on.

  • Thank's.. has made me want to get a Garmin rather than a TomTom.

Would you say the Garmin is good for taxi drivers?

  • The feed-back I've received from professional drivers is that the maps on Garmins are more accurate than TomTom's, but that is not to say they are perfect. You will find errors on any Sat Nav.

I just find the Garmin more reliable and has less errors than the equivalent TomTom, the One.

  • Thanks for your tips.

Does the Garmin take you to the house numbers on each street?

  • It does, but in my experience sometimes they're on the wrong side.... well, at least my parents house is, mine is ok.

Sometimes its better to search by town, number, roadname, than post-code then number. It seems to be more accurate.

  • Hi there. may i know how long can the battery last for continuous usage?

  • I usually get a couple of hours at least continuous use out of mine, havn't done a full test yet.

  • 3-4 hours for me

  • I have to get one of those before my next trip to Ireland. Ballybunion to Ballinalee will be a piece of cake with one of those things!

    5 stars.

  • Can you view speeds? like current, average, and top speed?

  • Yes, just press where the time is in the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

  • Can you look for POI category gas station?

  • gas stations, restaurants, hospitals, atm's, parking, hotels.... thousands of POI's searchable by distance or name. (Includes phone numbers too!)

  • There are actually 7 million POI

  • very good ,,thanks for posting this
