The album that this is on, I used to listen to it while driving to school to study music. It's so unbelievably inspiring and moving... it still feel that same depth of inspiration but now maybe a bit of sadness that I didn't stick with it and dedicate to piano. I've always loved it. There's always time though
@Hardcaslte you know what hardcaslte... time is relative. And if you believe that, you can play, learn, play and frolic, listen and roll! Go with it! You have music's blessings!!! (NEVER FORGET THAT) .................................................xx
@Hardcaslte As long as a it makes you to want to move forward, today, tomorrow, just move forward with the moment::):):) Realize what is given to YOU!!!! This music is truly magical!!
ive met george Winston in person! he sign a sealed record of mine that he opened by accident after almost 30 years of being sealed lol (luckly that album isnt to hard to find sealed lol)
I met him in Sn Francisco for a concert, he was very kind, and let my wife and I watch him record some ideas he had after the concert was done!!!, great musician, better person...
George: THANK YOU. You and Wolfgang are my truest idols and inspiration. Imagine Mozart music renditioned to sound like yours....just a bit... that's what I like to do. Next time you're performing in Northern California, I will be there to enjoy, and I will be there with lots of friends... so that they too may see and hear your beauty.
Magnificent, one of my favorites by him, this is slightly different than what is recorded on Winter into Spring, but, I like this version too. Thanks, George, for all the good music, you have provided me with a good musical escape for over 25 years now.
I have enjoyed this gentleman's music since I first heard Will Ackerman and George Winston during the beginning days of Windom Hill. His music is so pure and beautiful. He keeps getting better and better. Many Thanks Mr. Winston
@debbiephelps1 he is just recently published in the states. I finally have the sheet for Thanksgiving ... his music was not available in the states due to copyright shit.
But you can get it now at any reputable music store.
I've had the chance to see him twice in concert-just listen to his harmonica-he played a song that sounded like it was on the bagpipes-his guitar skills are second to none also-he is a true genius
You're absolutely right. And, to think this man is "self taught", having had only a few lessons as a child... boggles the mind. He personifies the true meaning of "genius"... or, at least, the next best thing to it. I can listen to him playing, all day, and never get tired or bored. He's simply amazing. Very humble, as well.
Sets my whole being a-flutter, as though I want to soar. Exquisitely beautiful. Reminds me of my recently-passed college years, when I would sit in the computer-lab on fridays working, listening to Windham Hill artists through my earphones.
Despite myself, I always had to stop working when George played of Meadows, or made the Colors Dance.
I think in 100 years, people will look back on this era and count us lucky for having had the opportunity to experience this music. It's funny, because you can tell which tracks on each album Winston writes himself. They're the ones where you actually have the ability to touch or smell the object of the song. (Early Morning Range, for example. I can smell the air and feel a brisk breeze whenever i hear it.) Just goes to show, there's no substitute for genius.
@saskoukraina True! Great artist and wonderful performer, but one thing....Can you smell "Variations on the Kanon" XD. Beautiful song where none of the 5 human senses can describe!
I am fortunate to have seen him in concert twice and both times was held spellbound-and both time he played barefoot ...other than his music there NOother sound-no talking, beepers, cellphones-it was like you were in another world
If you think this is amazing, he's one of the few even better live:-)
PatchworkDream is 100% correct. I saw him MANY years ago and have never been to a concert with a more respectful audience. Not a peep was heard from anyone until it was over. He is truly a professional artist in every sense of the word.
I was also surprisingly shocked when he walked out on stage to find that he could have been my twin brother. It was more than a resemblance - it was a jaw dropper. At least until he started playing and any similarities vanished at that point. :-)
I went to one of his concerts in Montana, and he played barefoot there too. His music is so great. I could lisnten to it forever. It is so I am attempting to learn his song Reflection on my piano, but no one can play the music the way he does.
I don't negate that practice and hard work and a huge hand in his technique (I used to play the violin). It is God-given that he has touched us with the beauty of his gift. George Winston's music helped heal me by his inspiration, verve and spontaneity. It helped bring me out of the depression I was in over the passing of my toddler. I have subsequently had children since that time and I made a point of always playing his music for them.
i'm sorry if I have upset you in anyway, that wasn't my intention. I'm also sorry to hear of your loss, and you are right. Winston's music is very beautiful and inspirational.
Dude 5:01-5:13 was like the pinnecale of his career peace. The first time I saw him do that at 6:17-6:21 I lost my mind this song is unreal and i can relate to it
Dude i just went to his concert in rochester minn, and none of the stuff he played even compared to this song of course this was in 1996 he getting real old. He did some wierd things with the strings to produce a diff sound kinda interesting I think technically sounding hes getting worse, his touch on this performance is uncanny no one could ever reproduce this, at least not without a good ear. dude is good at harmonica though. nothin at his concert sounded this good though, piano was too loud.
this song is amazing. i love when he crushes the notes at 0:41 it puts shivers up my spine, and also at 2:19 when he changes and goes really deep also sounds fantastic. George is one of my favourite composers everything he does sounds magnificent. this would have to be my favourite, although his actually recorded version of this song doesn't come close to this live version.
what an amazing talent. i saw him in concert in milwaukee in 1984...one of the most inspiring musicians i've ever heard. to see a guy walk out on stage in his socks and play these songs that tell stories in your mind. what an incredible artist.
