Awesomely perfect. To me, it doesn't matter who sang background vocals on these hits. Ronnie says Estelle and Nedra weren't on them, but I doubt that. I think Estelle and Nedra are up front on these early hits, with the Blossoms and whoever else there to beef up the sound. The bg vocals on this, Be My Baby, and Walkin' in the Rain are too innocent-sounding to have been done entirely by professionals. I think that innocent, almost little-girl sound comes from Estelle and Nedra. JMO!
Clean, exuberant, youthful but knowing. Extending the Frankie Lymon genre of do-wop, the so-called school boy do-wop lead sound, the Ronettes bring the force and energy of early 60s Afro-Latin female synthesis. In the hands of these three trend setting, edgy, and dynamic young women, this style of music is taken to a different place. Dilema: I still can't decide which of these charming women I admire most. When you put the vocals up front acapella style, it really gets next to me. Great post.
Hey guys let's give me friends THE WRECKING CREW credit for these songs. The same guys who play this played on practically all hits made in the sixties. Examples:
95% of Beach Boys, The Byrds, Mamas and papa's, Paul Revere, All Spector productions, SOnny & Cher, and hundreds more. They have more number one hits than any groups combined
This is one track of two recording in stereo. One microphone recorded the voices in one room and the musical instruments were recorded on another microphone in an adjacent room. Both musicians and vocal artists can see each other thru a big glass window. All wear headphones to hear the complete mix. When YOU hear the record on your stereo system you hear the voices from one speaker and the musical instruments in the other. Two channel stereo recording gives a more realistic presentation.
The same can almost be done with their Be My Baby sessions. You can extract the vocals only but half way through the track, some strings, I believe come in.
wow!!!!

Now THAT is singing. A bit of Doo Wop in the backing vocals too. Go Ronnie!

Is that Nedra and Estelle singing back-up or Darlene Love and the whole "wall of sound"? I can't tell.

Just because Phil Spector's in jail there's no need to do this to him, lol.
