I believe technically the longest time ever to complete a music video. About 6 months of a world tour to get all the clips together before editing. Truely brilliant!!
Without a doubt, one of the most creative videos ever made...I mean, who would think of going all over the world, to New York, Graceland, Sydney, Los Angeles, Paris, and Tokyo, just to say a few lyrics? Only Phil Collins, I guess...I remember watching this video in January of 1987, on Super Bowl Sunday with my friends...God I miss the 1980's, truly the sunlight years of my life...
@smigbabb Bro, everything is so lame, nowadays, even people who weren't even alive in the 1980's are lamenting this era...back in the days, kids actually had a childhood, shit was bad, but the news didn't throw it up in everybody's face...life was kinda innocent, whereas, nowadays, everybody wants to find "dirt" about somebody...Peace, bro...
I have always absolutely loved this song! This song takes me back to a much better time in my life and in history itself. Phil Collins is an awesome and amazingly talented individual! Such great memories come with this song, the best really! Such a great era to grow up in! Why it all had to change, I guess that is life but hard to let go of what we loved the most. I will always miss the 80's but I hold the memories tightly in my heart forever. Missing the 80's . 80's forever!!
Reminds me of driving at sunset on my work lunchbreak. while listening to this song, singing along... thinking of the girl I love, my parents, friends, and the road ahead... It was a comforting, surreal moment.
There was a sequence at the end of an episode of the NBC hit-series Miami Vice, when Tubbs was trying to decide whether hed be returning to Miami, or if he would try to make a life with a lady detective played by Pam Greer (rowr!)... Phil was crooning this tune in the background... heck of a show. Heck of a song. Heck of a singer...
Phil with hair!!!! He's back I knew he could'nt stay away *****Welcome***** you were missed Concert in NY I've got to be there You were missed like a hungry man misses cooked food (lol)
This has always been a "comfort" song. While I served in the US Coast Guard 86-88 on deployment, I always heard this in my head to "Get Me Home" when sailing back to home port. Now I am a Paramedic and it still has a deep meaning to me.
this is the best song reminds me of when i was smoking a bowl drinking 6 years ago then i put this song on vinyl record on and the record player quit working then it took me 1 hour to take it apart and put it back together it worked like a charm after when it started to work this song was on made me so happy i fixed something and it was the best song tearing up lol
I tried to copy Phil by wearing the same shirt in front of all those places. I now have pictures of me in a New York Yankees jersey in front of the Sydney Opera House, Eiffel Tower, and Big Ben
this is my most fav song in the whole world. Phil Collins 4 life!
This song speaks to me, and Phil Collins has earned alot of my respect from this song alone. Thank you, Phil...You have taken us all home with this song..
There's for sure a lot of emotions in his voice... I mean no one can move me like this and, I never get sad listening to them. This is an enormous avantage for a singer! Genesis and Phil Collins, I hope the people will someday consider your band as the best on Earth!
Since a few weeks, my life's difficult. I'm in love, but it isn't working out that well, it's an up and down... I don't know why, but somehow, this song helps me to face this situation. It motivates me, it helps, it gives me power... Hard to explain... But: THAT'S what music's for, I guess!

Phil Collins is such a great artist. I have a feeling that he's underrated though. I mean, I hear Genesis playing alot on the radio. But most people never mention them under their favorites. And I even believe South Park made fun of them once. (I don't watch South Park; my friend mentioned it to me when I asked him what he thought of Phil Collins.)

@GuitarHeroPhenomSux Genesis is my all time favorate bands, everytime I hear Phil Collins voice it brings me out in goosebumps, he is truly amazing, my only regret is never getting to see Genesis play live :-(
I started a new job 3 years ago which I extremely loved. I loved it more than anything. It made me in such a great mood. One morning waking up I had XM radio playing on my computer and this song was playing. I didnt catch the song, but I thought I caught the words. I thought it said Take me down Remember i was half asleep. I FINALLY heard the song again and I found out the name of it. EVERY SINGLE DAY I wake up to this song now. I have it on my computer alarm clock. This song completes my life!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This is about as bling bling as u can get without a black artist..and even in the 80's or early 90's. Phil has a bottle of Dom Perignon at 5:28, an expensive champagne, and he's nearly at every famous city in the world in his video. I love Phil's songs, but come on. Couldn't he be alilttle more original than this????
Lol. Thank you everyone for not putting a reply to my comment and just putting 5 thumbs down. (Sarcasm). How original is that as well???? Jeemonie Chrismas....get a f@%$ing life!!!
@sjoseph17, "Alzheimer's" is a condition where one begins to lose their memory. There's different stages of the disease. I've seen several people with it and it's usually common in older people. But no one knows the cause or cure for it. I don't know what relevance this has with Phil Collins but just thought you should know.
i happen to be fortunate to see both my grand mothers with the disease suffer from it, im not sure what this song is about but phil collins is known for writing songs based on his emotions. i always perceieved that the song was about a man that is somewhere where they dont fit in or belong
Ohhh come on I'm kidding, no disrespect..still, Phil's great. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, Phil along with Genesis was an influence in my younger days. I wonder though, what sucks about this music? I'd at least like to be able to have a more introspective look into why this would suck. Well sorry, I went on too much, but I tend to do that at times.
It looks like this video cost thousands of pounds but actually it was probably the cheapest video in the history of music. Phil was on a world tour at the time and took adavantage of it and shot the clip for the song at a very low cost. In every city he played he filmed a few seconds and then he mixed everything together.
I actually love this song it reminds me of being a young teen 13 or 14 yrs old living in Nuevo Laredo Mexico and I could'nt wait to get the hell outta there. I would imagine myself in miami or LA I finally ended up in New York
Its funny they only show the gates at Graceland. I use to live in Memphis and Graceland sits in one of the worst parts of town. Its a shame that they let that place go to hell, the gate is all rusted now, Elvis's jet is horrible shape, and the Heartbreak Hotel is in disrepair. I'm so glad I moved out when I did... lol
I'm not sure of all the locations, but I know for sure they filmed in London, New York, Sydney, Moscow, Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Memphis. Always loved this song!
Probably not much, actually.. I mean, I bet they just filmed bit of this throughout the course of one of his tours maybe? That'd be the economic way of doing it ;)
The WWF used to play this song during the end credits of Saturday Night Main Event during the mid 80's.
I used to be the Public Address announcer for a small town junior hockey team and I used to play this song after the game was over as the fans were going home.
I was really small when "No Jacket Required" was released. If I could go back to the 80's at the age I am now (26), the years I'd pick would definitely be 1985 and 1986 for sure.
Phil was really adorable in this video. <3 Definitely one of my favorites. Thanks for putting it up!
I agree... I miss those years in my life... I remember being in Pensacola Florida and my mom listening to this.. and when my family moved to Texas I still heard a lot of Phil. I always did love listening to him. It just makes me miss the past real bad. I guess so much has happened since I was a kid and would love to have some of that innocence back.
ur mom has excellent taste. my one goal in life is to sing with him if i become a famous singer. i want to be on stage with him. i want to sing Take Me Home with him. this is one thing i want to accomplish before either i die or he dies. i want to rest in my grave knowing i sang with one of the greatest singers known to man.
This is my closing theme as a DJ in Second Life. Voiceover over intro: "We leave you as always with Phil Collins, 'Take Me Home,' 'cos we're takin' me home here at (venue name). This is DJ CoolJ, saying, peace out, GOODNIGHT EVERYBODY!"
The camera and electric goods store at Shinjtyuku intersection, SAKURAYA, that appears on 3:22 and then on is closing down by the end of Feb. 2010. No longer a landmark of the world anymore. What a pitty.
My friend and I tried to recreate the bit from Sydney Harbour when she visited me a few years ago, but we couldn't find a spot where you could put your feet in the water and still have both the bridge and the Opera House in the shot.
You have to follow the path all the way around the big U shaped water inlet. Theres a somewhat famous chair on that peninsula...can't remember the name though.
@eminemrap2 Yeah, thats the one. No disrespect to the guys talent as a lyricist, but it just doesn't appeal to my tastes. Like I said, I must be that old...lol

Probably not much, actually.. I mean, I bet they just filmed bit of this throughout the course of one of his tours maybe? That'd be the economic way of doing it ;)

My dad really liked Phil Collins and so when I was like 3 years old he played it, and it instantly became my favorite song.
Im a Big Owl City fan now, but listening to this song really takes me back.

@5pliszer I have a hard time believing that you distinctly remember anything before age five, let alone the music you somehow chose to listen to...

I started kindergarten at age four and I totally remember stuff from then, including music.

this reminds me of being in kindergarten... my mom loved phil collins.

ur mom has excellent taste. my one goal in life is to sing with him if i become a famous singer. i want to be on stage with him. i want to sing Take Me Home with him. this is one thing i want to accomplish before either i die or he dies. i want to rest in my grave knowing i sang with one of the greatest singers known to man.
